Spooktober 2025: Slashertown

It's October, and I wanted to draw at least ONE Slashertown related thing. After all, it IS my annual character design exercise... but then I realized "Hey, Horror (and horror parody) is good year round!" so instead I might as well do key art that serves as an intro!

In a brooding forested shore in Oregon, resting on the foot of a hill, lies the town full of haunts and horrors galore, so much so it's little wonder why it's called Slashertown.

Linda Rivera, miniature painter, freelance artist and cosplayer extraordinaire by day, mystery solver by night, tries to delve deeper into the mystery of the town and its namesake supernatural horrors, the Slashers. Helping her out comes a mysterious and unexpected ally, Rodney "The Ripper" Rackham, himself a formidable slasher from the 90s, though now he puts his skill in battling other slashers.

It's dangerous work, but Linda can handle it, after all, if there's any girl that knows what it's like to be a Final Girl? It's Linda Rivera!

Slashertown is essentially my tribute to slasher fiction and other bits of genre fiction, for accompanying them includes cryptid horror, alien predation horror as well the animal monster genre that plays with a LOT of the tropes featured in these films. Heck Linda herself is a play on 'Final Girl', in that she's been the Final Girl for most of her life!

Even the secondary human cast are plays on character tropes: Officer Grimsby is built like a gorilla but represents the ideal policeman from Norman Rockwell paintings come to life... and a considered an old and naive hasbeen by many. Meanwhile, the younger, more 'modern' cop, Brad is viewed with admiration by the town... when in truth he's a spiteful monster in blue uniform.

Winx Club Redesigns!

You'll probably remember the sketches and first designs that i made a month ago, well this are the final results!

I love the original designs, this is just my personal interpretation of the characters. These are based on their first tranformation outfits so i didn't want to add a copious amount of details to them, just enough to keep them all unique and different.

I've didn't post it here, but this is a character design exercise of some days ago. I SWEAR I've seen the face in the little lines of fat of the ham I was eating for dinner. I know it's strange.

Second part of my Winx redesign project. Here's the rest of the team! As said in the previous post, these are style and costuming exploration more than final designs, I plan on making all of them look more cohesive with each other and more fairy like.

Musa: I wanted her to have a playful energy, to look like the kind of girl who can't stay still and is a little mischeavous, so i made her the shortest since i'm a sucker for little gremlins. Her styling is what real Y2K style was, shape focused, cut-outs in random places, pleather and shiny fabrics with a little 60's influence. Basically: a late 90's popstar/dancer.

Tecna: She's got a squarish built to reflect her more rigid and logical nature. I always found her original fit to be extremely unique, so i really wanted to emphasize more the idea of a futuristic suit. My main inspiration were sci-fi movies and videogames, retro spaceman suits and modern superheroes.

Aisha: Hourglass figure for a beatiful siren! She's solid and strong but not in an hard and severe way, more like a gentle big sister type. Since she's the fairy of waves, i did go in the obvious "mermaid" direction (i can't help it, i'm a fan of mermaids) with pearls, shells, beads and scales etc... Also: drapy and soft fabrics! No rigidness in this house!

I'm back with some updates about the Winx Club redesigns! As you can see, the body,the face and the hair are mostly done, the costuming however is not. These are some style and aesthetic exploration, the final looks will def be more cohesive between all of the girls and will def look more magical (i still haven't done any wings designs). Musa, Tecna and Aisha will come soon.

Bloom: I wanted to give her a "girl next door" vibe, average built, average looks. The theme for the transformation was: dragon princess, very fantasy heroine-like with accessories made with metal and/or leather. For the hair opted for an ponytail with braids, elegant but also practical.

Stella: Model-esque figure, thin and very tall with beatiful cat eyes. The outfits are a mix between Roman/Greek inspired clothing and things influencers wear at coachella, and loud big jewelry for her big personality. I had to give her long dutch braids, since it's an hairstyle i associate with fashionable girls on IG.

Flora: She has a gentle and soft personality, so i made her soft and chubby, she's friend shaped! With her i leaned on the more "stereotyped" fairy aesthetic, ruffles, flowers, leaves, with an obvious cottagecore twist. The hairstyle is a pretty simple long hairstyle, so the hair could be easily accesorized with natural elements or some cute bows.
