Todoroki's Broken Engagement
Bakugou, Todoroki and Y/N
Description/ summary:
Todoroki is manipulated by his father with lies and an arranged marriage, leading him to break up with you, choosing to believe his father’s words over yours. You don't forgive him and he spends months in regret, only to watch you find true love with Bakugou.
You and Shoto had been together for almost a year. Your relationship was quiet, gentle, and built on a foundation of understanding. You knew his struggles with his family and his fear of being like his father. You saw the way he would flinch when someone raised their voice. You loved him truly- not his name , money, power or status- but him for the kind perfect brave person he was. To you, he was your everything but to him you were supposed to be a safe haven .
Enjoy Todoroki has never seen it this way. he disapproved of you and you weren't worthy for an heir of the Todoroki name.
In his eyes, you were worthless. Your quirk isn't anything to be amazed with, no prestigious lineage, nothing that could benefit the Todoroki name or push Shoto closer to becoming the Number One Hero. Endeavor watched your relationship grow with cold disapproval, and he decided early on that he would remove you from his son’s life. He wouldn’t do it by force; he knew Shoto would rebel. Instead, he decided to destroy your image in Shoto’s eyes, using the one weapon he had always mastered: manipulation.
One evening, he called Shoto into his study and his voice was low, grave, but perfectly measured. “Shoto, I have held my tongue for months because I wanted you to be happy. But I cannot stay silent any longer. I have a responsibility to protect you, even from yourself.”
Shoto frowned, uneasy. “What are you talking about?”
“Your partner.” Endeavor slid a thick folder across the mahogany desk. “I had people look into them... I wasn't prying I was just ensuring you weren't being taken advantage of. But I found some things... terrible things"
Shoto stiffened. “It’s lies. They love me.”
"Is love being mocked behind your back?" Endeavour opened a folder sliding it over to him, altered photos, and false reports. "They say that you're broken. your scary makes you appear weak. They laugh at you calling you naive and how it was easy to get with the son of the number one hero's son. They are with you for just status and connections." Shoto's hands began to tremble. Every word struck at his deepest insecurities- fears and insecurities he had.
“And there is more,” Endeavor continued, his tone shifting to something more firm and final. "I have arranged a marriage proposal for you. She's a daughter of the Kamihara family. The family is powerful and wealthy and respected... she is your equal. She will strengthen this family and help you to rise to the top. Unlike them, she has respect for you and respects what it means to be a hero. The engagement is agreed upon. You will end things with Y/n immediately. They are dragging you down, and I won’t allow it.”
Over the next week, the lies were being slowly dripped into his ears. Endeavour told him you had asked people how much money he had and said you complained that dating him was exhausting because of his family issues. He claimed you had been seen meeting with other men. Each lie was small, but combined with the “evidence” and the voice of the father Shoto still struggled to stand against, they began to chip away at the trust you had spent months building. Shoto began to grow cold, distant, and quiet. He stopped holding your hand. He stopped looking you in the eye. When you asked what was wrong, he turned away. The end came at the park- the place where you had shared your first date, kiss and where you had first said you loved one another.
“Shoto, please,” you begged, tears streaming down your face as you stood before him. “Talk to me. What happened? What did I do?”. He stiffened, hands stuffed in his pockets, his face a mask of cold indifference that broke your heart. “Don’t act like you don’t know. I know everything. I know what you say about me. I know you’re just using me. My father showed me proof.” You felt as though the ground had crumbled beneath your feet. “Proof? Shoto, none of that is true! You know me—you know me! How can you believe that?”
“Because the evidence is right here!” He raised his voice, holding up the folder of lies. “And it doesn’t matter anyway. I am engaged now. To someone worthy of this family. Someone who doesn’t lie and deceive.” The word engaged hit you like a physical blow. You stepped back, wiping your tears, your heart turning from pain to cold, sharp anger. “You listened to him,” you said, your voice trembling but firm. “You listened to the man who hurt you, who abused you, who has controlled every part of your life… and you chose his words over mine. You believed the worst of me without even asking me for my side of the story. You let him decide my character, our relationship, our future.” You looked him dead in the eye, and he saw clearly that the love in your gaze was gone, replaced by hate.
“Not only have you broken up with me but you made a choice to believe an abuser over me- you took his word over mine. You hurt me and I will not forgive you this time. Now… you have to live with that. Goodbye.” You turned and walked away, leaving him standing alone in that park with a cold dread settling in his chest that he couldn’t yet name.
It took exactly two weeks for Shoto to realize the truth. He started noticing inconsistencies. The dates on the reports didn’t match the days you were together. The people his father claimed you spoke to denied ever saying such things. He found the original, unaltered photos hidden in a locked drawer in Endeavor’s study—pictures showing you alone, or with friends, never with anyone else.
When he confronted his father, furious and shaking, Endeavor didn’t even flinch. “I did what was necessary. They were not good enough. They were a distraction. You will thank me one day.”
“You lied!” Shoto shouted, a rage unlike anything he had ever felt burning through him. “You made me hurt them! You made me lose them!” He broke off the engagement immediately and sprinted to your dorm, but you wouldn’t open the door. He called you, but your number was blocked. He sent texts, emails, letters—pages and pages of apologies, explanations, pleas.
'I was wrong. He lied to me. I was scared and stupid and I believed him. Please, let me explain. I love you. I never stopped loving you.' But you never replied. Not once.
For the next five months, Shoto Todoroki lived in a state of endless regret and longing. He watched you from a distance in the hallways of UA, at training grounds, in the cafeteria. He saw how you kept your distance, How you had become guarded, you refused to even glance in his direction. He tried everything to reach you. He created alt accounts on socials to send messages, he commented on every photo you posted, he sent gifts that were always returned unopened.
Every post he made became a cry for you: photos of places you used to go, quotes about regret, vague reposts about how much he had changed and how much he missed you. He hoped you were reading them. He hoped you knew that he was sorry. He hoped you would see that he had finally stood up to his father, that he was fighting for himself now—all because he wanted to be the person you deserved.
But silence was the only answer he received. He changed. He became quieter, more serious, but stronger. He stopped letting his father control him. But every victory felt like nothing, every achievement felt empty, because the one person he wanted to share it with was gone- it was all his fault. He waited. He believed that eventually, time would heal the wound, and you would come back. He told himself you were just hurt, that you still loved him, that you were just waiting for him to prove himself.
He was wrong.
You had spent the first two months heartbroken and angry, building walls around yourself. But someone had been watching you closely all along. Bakugou had never been one for soft words or gentle comfort, but he had seen everything. He had seen how Shoto had thrown away the best thing that ever happened to him because he was too weak to trust you. He had seen how Shoto had let his father choose and control his life again.
Bakugou started sitting with you at lunch, not talking, just making sure nobody was bothering you. He would walk with you to and from your dorm and classes. He trained with you, pushing you hard but always ensuring his safety, always muttering under his breath that “that half-and-half bastard didn’t deserve even a second of your time.”
He didn’t ask about the past. He didn’t bring up Shoto. He didn’t try to fix you. He was just there, loyal to you. He showed you what trust actually looked like: he never doubted you, never listened to rumours, never let anyone speak badly about you. He would just choose you, no hesitation or fear, not needing anyone else's permission. Slowly, the walls you had built began to fall. The pain faded, replaced by warmth and safety. You realized what real love was—it was someone who didn’t make you beg for their trust.
You started dating quietly, but Bakugou never hid it. He held your hand in the hallways. He draped his arm around your waist in public, pulling you close. He looked at you like you were the most precious thing in the world, and he made sure everyone knew you were his.
It was a Saturday afternoon when Shoto saw it. He was scrolling through his phone, checking your profile for the hundredth time that day, hoping for any sign that you might be thinking of him. And then, your newest post loaded...
It was a photo of you and Bakugou, taken at the training grounds. You were laughing, head tilted back, and Bakugou was looking down at you with that rare, soft expression he only ever showed you, his arm securely wrapped around your shoulders, holding you close against his chest.
The caption was short but and devastating: thank you for always choosing me first @dynamight
Shoto’s breath caught in his throat. His fingers trembled as he stared at the screen. He scrolled back through his own profile—filled with months of apologies, sad songs, lonely reposts, and desperate messages you had never acknowledged. He saw the way that Bakugou looked at you in the photo. He remembered the last time he had looked at you—with doubt, with coldness, with the words his father had fed him.
He realized then that he had lost you not because of his father’s lies, but because of his own choice. He had chosen to believe him. He had chosen to value his father’s words over your own. He had chosen to be the son Endeavor wanted, instead of the partner you needed.
He kept scrolling, seeing more photos: you and Bakugou eating together, training together, smiling together. He saw the comments from friends, cheering you on, saying how good you looked, how happy you were. Shoto closed his eyes, the ache in his chest sharper than any burn or frostbite he had ever endured. He knew, that there was no coming back from this. He had spent months pining, and hoping you would return… but you had already moved on. You had found the love you deserve.
He put his phone down, the screen going dark. He was alone again, just like he had been before he met you. But this time, he knew it was his own fault. He had been given the purest love, and he had traded it for his father’s approval.
