When Cas and Dean settle down they pick some bum fuck Midwest ranch house in the middle of nowhere (mostly due to Deans paranoia). Where houses are fields apart, they never even noticed a new couple had purchased the abandoned house they lived near! Anyway, slowly the towns people start noticing really weird things. Lights in the woods (mostly surrounding the ‘abandoned’ house), strange weather phenomenons, sounds coming from the woods/house (an engine revving, screaming, chanting, shots so on and so fourth), sightings of humanoid creatures standing in the woods and so on. A rumor starts about Aliens or monsters living up in the abandon house upon the hill.

It goes on until they see a new family for the first time out in town. Two men and a five year old boy. It goes around and the town calms down, because it wasn’t a monster family, just a regular one. Then more people start to meet them. The taller one with green eyes is normal. Very polite and friendly actually. The kinda guy to pay for the family infont if his groceries. His child is strange but younge enough that anything he can do can be brushed off with ‘oh he’s a kid’. It’s his spouse that is the freaky one.

He acts like it’s his first time on earth. Looks like it too. His head is on a constante swivel, and his face is blank most if not all the time he’s not completely engrossed in his family. His voice is deep and monotone with no intonations and tone shift. He rarely if ever blinks and hold his eye contact way to long. Wears thick layers under a stretch coat (does he even have an office job? Why is he always in a suit nomatter time of day?) in the blazing heat and never sweats. He’s polite, but everything he does puts people off kilter. A strange family.

Their kid eats sand under the watchful eye off the one trench coat, and it takes the normal one coming out and scolding them to stop. They come down at strange times of day and but strange things like pounds and pound of salt, candles and matches.

The town actually starts to wonder if their first guess was right, and a family of monsters/aliens did move into the abandoned house on the hill.

Even if the woods are supposedly haunted. When he comes across an eerily intelligent crow that keeps on watching him he decides he's going to befriend it, as a good story for his friend Charlie back home, but he's got no idea that he's about to discover that the crow and the woods are hiding a big secret! --- OR --- Dean and the accidental courting of a crow(man).

I am a BIG fan of creature Cas, so I can absolutely see myself writing more of that.

I love Cas as the outsider. The one who doesn’t quite fit, who doesn’t always understand the rules, who is a little strange or awkward or dangerous or other. I love writing him as someone who has spent so long believing the parts of himself that make him different are the parts that make him impossible to love.

And then there’s Dean.

Dean, who sees all of that and falls for him anyway. Or, even better, falls for him because of it. Not in spite of the strangeness, not because he can look past it, but because of it. That's the thing Dean recognizes and wants and chooses.

I think I keep coming back to that idea in different forms: the thing you think makes you unlovable might be the exact thing the right person loves you for. The monster part, the awkward part, the too-much part, the not-human-enough part, the part you’ve been trying to hide.

There’s something really compelling to me about creature Cas because it externalizes all of that. The loneliness. The fear of being known. The fear that wanting something makes you dangerous. And then love becomes this act of recognition. No one is trying to fix anyone. No one is trying to make him normal. Dean sees Cas clearly and says: This one.

I'm literally in the middle of the new chapter and I had to come here and ask: What do *you* think Cas's trueform looks like? I have a hard time gelling "wavelength of celestial intent" with the "biblically accurate angels" idea. How can a wavelength have wings? Eyes? Spinning rings of fire? How can a terrifying being of godly might the size of the Chrysler building be insubstantial as a sound, as pure light?

So I have a couple thoughts about Cas’ trueform.

My hc is always a mix of religious imagery, folklore and fantasy.

I see his form as malleable, in heaven it’s pure light, his wings are fragments of color. But the closer he comes to earth and because he’s a warrior his form can take a more corporeal state so a more dragon or griffin like creature with multiple heads a lion, ram and another with human like face for his humanity. (Almost like a blank mask with expressive big blue eyes.)

Multiple limbs and claws. Great black inky wings with a blue iridescent color to them. Floating eyes that look like rings with how they’re arranged. His grace surrounding them that would give the illusion of fire.

I think he’s covered in soft feathers like a bird that are warm but can become hard as steel for armor but also fur. In my mind his body isn’t delicate like the other angels, being a warrior I feel like he was created be withstand battle so he’s thick and muscular but is still able to manipulate his form. Kinda leaning into the lore that human minds can’t comprehend kinda thing.

I think he looks incredibly scary while still being beautiful but Dean would just see Cas. I tend to lean into the very otherness of Cas that he is still a creature, a divine one but still a creature.

I like the idea that he’s huge but can control his form because he’s a soldier, a feature Chuck thought would be useful.

I hope this paints a better picture 🤣 I go back and forth on what he looks like in my fics but I can’t draw so I can only cobble together a couple words that describe a creature that can look both menacing and bitchy 🥹🥹🤣🤣
