I don't think enough people dig deep into children's shows. For instance, I recently got really into the Trolls series. I don't think we talk enough about Trolls.
In the movies and series, the Pop Trolls gloss over the fact that they were basically livestock for at least three generations. I say three generations because their history and stories were quickly erased through the dying out of the older generations. In reality, we dont know how long they were in that tree. At least long enough to build an escape tunnel with subpar if any tools. From what I'm thinking, probably a few centuries. First, their stories, then their songs, and finally, their identity as Pop. They lost so much, and it is kind of glossed over.
We also don't know how the Bergans kept the troll population up. If I was being kept as livestock and knew eventually I was going to be eaten, I wouldn't want to subject my offspring to that hopeless fate. Did they make them have children? Did they do artificial troll insemination? Do they keep them sedated if they asexually carry eggs? The further you do go into this, the worse it gets. Did the Bergans know the Trolls were cognizant and aware with fully rounded out emotions, or did they think about them like humans think about cattle? With the knowledge that they are creatures with feelings but are too ingrained into their need for happiness that they disregard it all? Or do they think that trolls are simple creatures that were made for consumption that can only feel happy?
The more I think about it, the more horrified I get. Trolls were watching their loved ones be stolen away with the knowledge that they were never coming back. They knew that they were going to be consumed by the gaping maws of these giants, and they could not fight it. The only way they could break the cycle was to escape. Even then, the only way to go past this and put an end to Trollstice was to forgive and make peace with the same giants that ate them. To move on from the thousands of deaths and broken families and keep going because it was the only way to keep the rest of them safe.
What's even more unsettling is the fact that the only thing saving the rest on the Trolls was that the Bergans didn't know they existed. The other more vulnerable tribes like Techno and Country( the ones most easily accessible by either fishing or being on the ground) would have been captured and devoured as well.
Forgiveness on the part after the younger generations that didn't truly understand the hell they left. How many older trolls remember what went on in that tree? How many look at these new allies and know beyond a shadow of a doubt that they ate their mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, and friends? How many look at the bergans and go ' I remember your face, and I know the sins you carry.' ?
I keep trying to think of a scenario where yandere Croc and Doffy go for the same person but I cannot picture them sharing. Croc just wouldn't. The only way I can see it going if the reader finds out about it is they just quietly try to go with Crocodile. Maybe even convincing him to act like he doesn't have them yet. They're both terrifying but Croc is far more bearable than Doflamingo and if he had an eye on me for any reason I'd take almost any alternative
Yeah if I was caught between the two I’d be begging Crocodile to keep me safe. Doflamingo is a hot idea and fantasy but uh, no. No, I’d have to go with Crocodile - and I think he’s actually the more dangerous one.
If you can make it off the island Doffy won’t chase you too far. Clear the Grandline and he might even eventually forget about you.
But Crocodile?
He will find you. He won’t be distracted by some new creature that crosses his path. He would release his plans for Alabasta to dedicate the entire organization to finding you if that’s what it took. He would be the one dangling poor sweet things in front of Doffy to protect you.
But now if these two perpetually divorced energy bastards had formed a bond before you came along? Oh then they’d be able to share. And the only thing saving you is that Crocodile would make sure Doffy didn’t kill you. No matter what scars you may endure, you will at least survive them. >.>
For better or worse
C/TW: Heavy and disturbing themes
This popped back into my head recently. When I was in school for animation, I had an assignment. I forgot what it was. Likely something to do with blocking out shots of a scene or something. I think this took a week or two to put together.
Before I went on Testosterone, I could sing a little, and I think this might be the only proof of that. The song, lyrics, sound, and all, just popped into my head one day almost fully formed, and the animatic soon followed after. This character has no name, and even her story is a mystery to me. Themes of trickery and imprisonment are present, but by who and for why are still unclear.
I’m looking back at it now and wondering what a dark space my head must have been in to make something so foreboding. Seeing as a lot of this piece was crafted from a visceral, subconscious area, I could only assume my brain was desperately trying to tell me something. I’ll have to take another look at it and wince through the cringe to remember what it was. Thankfully, I’m in a much better place now.

what did you see in this
So how much horror and gore is too much when using Danny as a main character?
I mean, this is Phantom and I know how we writers treat him but I need to double check before I traumatize THIS version of him.
Because I kinda just threw the Fentons into Clason on a whim and out of curiosity. (Clason City is a setting I tend to use in both Creepypasta/SCP - ish stuff and also with my original writing which is more towards supernatural, crime and horror in general)
Should I throw our boy into the REAL deep end of this swamp, somewhere in the middle or should I generally shield him? Or kinda just gradually force him deeper into the metaphorical water as we go?
Because either way Clason City is a very messed up place at the end of the day. Also how much "Hero" are we expecting of Danny in this situation? I mean he'll be actively discouraged but this IS Phantom we're talking about....
I just wanted to clear things up with those interested in the AU before I rush forward. I might be blowing this out of proportion at the end of the day but still.
