I do appreciate that with the Dark Trinity Jason necessarily has to be characterized as more restrained and calm because Artemis is already the aggressive tough-guy of the team, and she doesn’t have to be made into an idiot for it.

"There's no uncorkable cork and no unsolvable mystery, right?" he said as he placed the hat atop a very incredulous Iris, eyes hot with tears.

"Are you serious?! This really isn't the time..."

"I am serious. I'm just—impressed you figured it out, even if it's a terribly bitter taste I wanted to forget. I didn't mean to deceive you."

"But you still did!"

"... I know—sorry, I really am. No one was supposed to find out, it would've been better that way, I thought..." he trailed off, avoiding her gaze.

"... am I that unreliable?! You can't trust me at all, even after all this time?! You still treat me like a little kid. Unbelievable! We trusted N, didn't we?! You could have told us then! Years ago, Dent...! We wouldn't have blamed you for what that guy made you do... just like N a-and his sisters, H-Helena and Verbena..."

Iris would start to recall—while he stayed silent with the same apologetic, if increasingly strained smile (it was hard on him too, hiding these things from his best friends!)—that Dent was reluctant to fully trust N, compared to his friends, although at the time, she had chalked it up to his aggravatingly skeptical nature that doubted anything that couldn't be studied in a lab or represented with an equation. Embarrassed on top of feeling betrayed and belittled, she stormed off before he could catch her, to stew alone in the treetops, now that her fully evolved partner, Ononokusu, was too heavy to sit with her. She won't say a word because she didn't want to be found and hoped the distance from the ground would drown out her sniffles and sobs, leaving him alone with his stifled sorrow.

Based on that Dark Trinity (Shadow Triad) theory/AU ask, Iris learns Dent (Cilan) was hiding a rather heavy secret about his childhood... she's more upset he kept it secret from her than about the things he was ordered to do when he and his brothers were yet more orphans Ghetsis used as pawns in his plans.

(Iris is, as always, a bit blind to her own hypocrisy: she and Dent were both always secretive characters who run from their pasts...)
