Being Betazoid and meeting Data for the first time would include:

•frankly, utter bewilderment! There are of course, species that are immune to your natural ability, but eventually you in those moments you sense a living presence…with Data: nothing.

•you circle him a little bit like you’re checking him out, which makes Deanna chuckle, she’d had much the same reaction.

•Data himself doesn’t mind unduly. He stands still for you to make your observations. You see, he is also making observations, he’s spoken at length to Deanna about his desire to draw comparisons and research the differences between a half Betazoid and a full one. He’s read several hundred textbooks on the subject!

•you sit down in front of him, perplexed but grinning. ‘I think, Mr Data, we’re going to be friends you and I. You might be the only being in existence who could ever sneak up on me.’ You noticed his head tilt for the first time as he started to speak ‘I do have the ability to be stealthy and approach silently’ he confirmed. Deanna chuckled and then turned her attention back to you.

•she gasped to herself and smiled broadly. She didn’t need to be an empath to see that you were quite clearly smitten. With your legs swinging, smile sparkling; attention solely on Data, you were displaying clear signs of adoration. She quietly crept away, leaving you and Data to get to know each other.

Rambling about neurodivergent Data headcanons

This started out as an agreement/addition to @derschokoladenritter ‘s post about Data having creative autism instead of math/science autism, but my ideas ended up not being as related as I initially thought. And longer than I’d have liked. So I’m making a separate post.

I’ve noticed some of my own ADHD traits in Data (he’d be closer to the hyperactive kind, not the inattentive kind). I don’t necessarily think it’s for the same reason or affects him in the same way as it would a human, but it’s interesting. So I like to headcanon him as AuDHD (with hyperfixations in creative fields, as you pointed out).

He gets ideas that aren’t necessarily relevant in the conversation/situation he’s in and shares them anyway (sometimes interjecting them at “inappropriate” times despite him constantly trying to be considerate of others). Tbf his thoughts are relevant in his eyes, his brain is able to make different and faster connections than an organic brain. And he often doesn’t realize that other ppl didn’t make the same connections or find his new topics relevant until they point it out to him OR he realizes something he says wasn’t relevant/appropriate after he says it. I headcanon that Data makes tons of these rapid connections as he’s talking to someone, and he consistently has to manually filter them out in real time.

He can listen to 100 or so songs at once, but chooses “only” to listen to 5 at a time (I always have like 5 different songs stuck in my head at once). Also, when he had his emotion chip (as much as I want to rant about how I don’t care for the emotion chip, this post is long enough already) we get to see the LIFE-FORMS SONG. He also becomes more sensory-seeking and impulsive with the emotion chip, which is understandable bc he can feel new sensations now, but I still think it’s interesting.

Ofc it’s not a one-to-one comparison to human neurodivergence, and Data’s computer brain can deal with task prioritization, time management, multitasking, managing impulsivity, etc. in a way that’s far less debilitating to him than it would be to someone with an organic brain. I just like giving Data neurodivergent headcanons, it makes me feel happy and seen, especially with traits that are less stereotypical/societally-accepted!

I've been dying to request this!

Okay, okay, Star Trek Next Generation, A reader who has been attacked by Borgs in the past and is pretty much terrified of Data when they meet him. Data, being the curious android he is, starts researching ways to show he is friendly and not anything like a Borg. 😄😄

This is so cute!!! I don’t know hardly anything about Data, so I tried my best :)

- Data’s not sure why you’re so wary around him, until a crewmate explains that you had a horrible experience with Borgs.

- So, Data tries to become as least like a Borg as possible. He searches “how to be human”, “how to be friendly”, etc. His search engine requests don’t get him very far, however. It seems like the internet doesn’t understand what he’s asking.

- Eventually, he goes to the Captain for help. Picard advises Data to “be himself”.

“You’re not a Borg, so if you speak from the heart, she will realize that.” The Captain explains.

- So, Data sets out to discover differences between him and Borgs.

- There are many differences, obviously, but he decides the biggest one is his artwork. Now he just has to put a plan into action.

- The thing is, Data doesn’t want to corner you and scare you more, so he sets up his painting easel on the observation deck, and waits, hoping you might stop by.

It takes a couple days.

- But, when you do stop by, you’re astonished to see Data painting.

You hadn’t been expecting to find him here, let alone working on art. Yet here he is.

- Quietly, nervously, you ask about his work. And Data describes the constellations and galaxies he’s painting, and you’re in awe with how his technical understanding of the stars translates to brush strokes.

- After this encounter, you find yourself much more relaxed around Data. Sure, you’re still a bit nervous at points, but now he’s your friend.

And besides, who else would you talk about art with?

- But really, you talk about everything with Data. He’s a good conversationalist, and you find that he has a very unique perspective.

And he’s nothing like a Borg.

- Sometimes, late at night, Captain Picard will walk by the observation deck and hear you laughing. If he peers in, he can see both you and Data, glowing in the starlight, smiling at each other.

And the Captain finds himself smiling, too.

i adore your writing, you're really creative and talented! can i make a request? how data would react when people think they can talk disrespectfully about his significant other (reader), who is very attractive, in front of him just because he's an android. reader gets to know all about it days after

Data hearing people talking disrespectfully about you, his partner, would include:

•the first few comments he lets slide, realistically he knows the people probably aren’t aware he’s near them, and that if they did know they wouldn’t be saying it.

•but after he’s made them aware he’s there and they continue he starts to experience a sense of wrong. Perhaps that’s not the right way to put it, he doesn’t feel anything, but based on the programme he’s written just for you and your relationship he knows it’s not good to listen to this without defending you!

•so that’s what he does- politely he interjects and starts to defend you. Batting away whatever insults the people had been saying and countering every claim with some little insight or statistic about you.

•for the people who had been badmouthing you it’s an incredibly baffling experience! Data isn’t angry- he can’t do anger, yet the speed and impassioned language he uses to defend you makes it abundantly clear that he’s recognised the insults and is doing the right thing by you!

•and so as the rude people offer Data an apology that he accepts, the android considers the matter closed. It doesn’t even occur to him to tell you, he thinks it would only be detrimental to your own mental health. And he’s right, of course.

•but life on a starship means living in close quarters, within a few days you’ve heard all about the little ‘lively exchange of views’ that Data defend you about. And you’re touched!

•Data is not expecting the intense physical contact that you initiate with him when you next see him, but he joins in without restraint…he enjoys it, in the way he’s able to!

•and when you thank him for being your knight he’s a little perplexed; but when you explain it he simply nods and says it was simply the right thing to do, because what the rude people were saying was simply entirely untrue. And when he says that you can’t help but kiss him again, he’s a wonderful boyfriend.

Hello! I really live your writing, and I wanted to ask if you'd be okay with writing something with Data x Vulcan!reader? [Unless that doesn't make sense. I haven't watched TNG in a hot minute-X)]. I just randomly thought about it and found it a funny possibility: Vulcans are notorious for being reserved and logical, correct me if I'm wrong. I kinda feel like an android and a Vulcan would have a higher chance of understanding each other better, but it would be the definition of a slowburn, among other things-- X)

Being a Vulcan and dating Data would include:

•the relationship is absolutely the definition of a slow burn! The two of you are incredibly respectful of each other as individuals.

•other Vulcans are absolutely fascinated by your choice to pursue a relationship with the android, but fundamentally they respected it. But they were curious- certainly there could be no ‘natural’ offspring, which for Vulcans is one of the main reasons to pursue a relationship.

•there’s hardly any difference between your friendship with Data and your relationship with him.

•physical intimacy is rare- especially in public. Data has done a thorough, in depth amount of research into Vulcan dating rituals etc. So he understands everything very clearly.

•he does his best to create dates that would satisfy your desire to spend time with him, AND that would also be considered romantic and interesting by your standards.

•eventually though you have to break- Data has no experience of desire, though he believes his programming responds uniquely to you! But you do have desire, so you’re the one to start initiating intimacy. Data is more than happy to oblige and eagerly reciprocates when you give him a Vulcan kiss…which is swiftly followed by more intimate kisses on the lips.

•it takes months and months and months to get to that stage though. The whole crew are on tender hooks, placing bets, silently encouraging you both to take the next step. The whole Enterprise family are INVESTED in the slow burn of your relationship. It’s very sweet, and you’re very welcome into the intergalactic family as Data’s other half.

Platonic dancing with Data would include:

•it’s Will and Deanna’s wedding, and you’ve all been waiting SO long for this!

•and naturally at the wedding there’s dancing! But as yet you’ve not been taken into the foray of dancing figures- no, you’ve been a bit of a wallflower.

•until Data comes along, he’s just finished his rendition of a beautiful song, and suddenly he’s at your elbow, touching your arm gently and asking if you’d like to take a turn about the floor.

•nervously you accept- dancing has never been your strong suit! But you know that Data can dance…so you’re hoping he’ll lead you well enough that you can simply follow.

•but as always, things go a little wrong. Every few steps you keep stepping on his foot! You wince and apologise everytime! But Data just shakes his head and reminds you that it doesn’t hurt him.

•basically it just leaves you feeling embarrassed and frustrated because dancing looks like it’s easy! But you have two left feet…it’s annoying!

•Data senses your annoyance and starts to whisper his next move to you, so you can preempt the movement, and then the little missteps don’t happen!

•you can’t help but smile and talk to him as you slowly get better- and all of your friends are watching you both in awe. As you relax into his hold and you talk to one another your nerves and fears slip away, and without even realising it you’re dancing well!

•your friends are all watching with smiles- your friendship with Data was always such a huge part of your life, it was nice for everyone to see how much you supported each other.
