Panda!
Senior year of college I had a brief summer fling with this Asian grad student at a neighboring university. He was my giant panda- 6′5 with perfect chubby cheeks for squeezing. At the end of the summer of 2012, I graduated and left for Atlanta in August leaving him behind in North Carolina. He was obsessed with me, but moving to a big new city I was excited about meeting new guys. We kept in touch every now and then. He got his PhD and moved to the DMV area where he’s currently doing cancer research. The past few years whenever we would chat, he would ask me to move out there with him, but I HATE DC. I always consider it the wannabe NYC. I would brush off the suggestion every time. He visited Atlanta for a conference a few years ago and took me out to dinner. I was in a relationship at that point so I kept everything in the “friend zone.”
After all of these years, he has remained persistent. I received a text from him yesterday, which was the first in about a year. He let me know he would be in Atlanta for a conference and wanted to see if I was available to hangout. I filled him in about how I was living in Florida and he asked asked if I was single. I responded, “Yes,” and he asked me if I was interested in spending a weekend with him in DC. Something inside made me say yes this time. He’s the sweetest guy on the planet, but it has always been a timing issue with us. We actually have a marriage pact, where if I’m single at 35 and he’s single at 37 we’re going to get married to one another. haha. He said his time in DC is most likely over, so I’m hoping he moves back to Cali because I would totally be okay moving there.
I’m the type of girl that lives for cutesy romance stories. Blame it on my secret love for rom-coms. “Separated for 7 years, but nothing could diminish the yearning they had for one another.” 😂😂 Totally cheesy, but I love that shit. I was talking to my friend Trish cuz she’s been there from the beginnings and she was like, “Girl, he loves you.” Ever since she said that, I’ve been having an “I love Josh🤯” from Clueless moment (fyi my fave movie of ALL time).
I love his nerdy awkwardness, how he always wants the best for me, that he’s a geniuine good guy, he’s extremely intelligent and he’s out here trying to end cancer. I entered the fling that summer thinking that would be it. My mindset was I was leaving town in a couple of months, let’s just have some fun while I’m still here. I never thought it would go anywhere, but looking back I’m glad he saw something that I wouldn’t allow myself to see. This may go nowhere or it may go everywhere. 🤷🏽♀️ Who knows, that’s the funny thing about life. It’s the most unpredictable journey you will ever take.
Song of the day to complete my Clueless montage:
The Silent Invite
Julian preferred the predictable rhythm of his evening coffee. He sat at the same window table every Thursday night. The busy city outside moved in a blurred rush of neon and rain. The architect enjoyed his solitary status in the crowded cafe. However, a sudden disruption broke his calm routine completely. A woman in a charcoal silk dress sat at the adjacent table. She never ordered a drink or looked at her phone. Instead, she placed a pristine, blank business card on the edge of his table. This silent invite felt incredibly bold and undeniably mysterious. She left the cafe immediately after delivering the card. Julian stared at the white rectangle with a racing heart. He never experienced such a sophisticated, wordless provocation before. The simple gesture challenged his passive nature instantly. He picked up the card with trembling fingers. The thick paper felt expensive and faintly scented with sandalwood. He turned it over, fully expecting a name or a phone number. Instead, he found a single, hand-drawn map of a nearby park. A small, elegant "X" marked a secluded bench near the fountain. Julian felt a surge of genuine, electric excitement. This was clearly a silent invite to a midnight meeting. He checked his watch and realized he had exactly twenty minutes to decide. The architect normally avoided impulsive decisions and high-risk social encounters. Nevertheless, the mysterious woman’s confidence felt completely intoxicating. He grabbed his coat and stepped out into the damp city air. The Walk Through the Rain The city streets felt entirely different tonight. Usually, the rain served as an inconvenience to be avoided. Tonight, the moisture on the pavement reflected the neon signs beautifully. The wet asphalt looked like a fractured, glowing masterpiece. Julian walked quickly, his leather shoes clicking against the sidewalk. He felt a strange sense of liberation from his usual, rigid schedule. The architect spent his life designing structures meant to last for centuries. Yet, he currently pursued a connection that might vanish within the hour. The profound irony of his situation made him smile. The park entrance appeared through the mist like a hidden gateway. Giant oak trees stood like ancient sentinels along the winding gravel paths. Julian followed the hand-drawn map with careful, deliberate precision. He navigated the shadows while his pulse thrummed loudly in his ears. The ambient sound of the busy city faded into a dull hum. Only the rhythmic tapping of rain against his umbrella remained. He finally reached the central fountain and stopped walking. The water cascaded over the stone tiers in a hypnotic dance. He looked toward the secluded bench and caught his breath. Meeting the Architect of the Game The mysterious woman from the cafe sat waiting in the deep shadows. She held a black umbrella over her head. The darkness partially obscured her elegant facial features. Julian took a slow breath and approached her with cautious steps. She didn't stand up or offer a traditional verbal greeting. The stranger simply gestured to the empty space beside her. Julian sat down, his shoulder resting inches away from her silk sleeve. The silence between them felt incredibly heavy and deeply charged. They watched the fountain water dance in the moonlight together. Finally, the woman turned her head toward him. Her eyes appeared dark, intelligent, and fiercely observant. She smiled brightly, acknowledging his bravery for following the silent invite. Julian realized he was no longer just a passive observer of life. He became an active participant in a beautiful, dangerous game. The architect felt a profound shift in his own internal gravity. He usually demanded strict blueprints for everything in his life. However, he possessed absolutely no plan for what happened next. He simply existed in the moment, completely captivated by her presence. Breaking the Heavy Silence "I really didn't think you would come," she whispered softly. Her voice sounded like crushed velvet against the backdrop of the rain. Julian looked at her, finally seeing the sharp elegance of her profile. He admitted his own surprise at his sudden, uncharacteristic impulsiveness. The architect explained his usual preference for order and strict predictability. Clara laughed lightly, producing a melodic sound that broke the tension. She introduced herself as a professional curator of rare historical artifacts. She valued the beauty of unspoken intentions over loud, empty promises. Clara created the silent invite to test his genuine curiosity. They spent the next hour discussing art, architecture, and hidden history. The conversation flowed with an effortless, magnetic grace. Julian felt a profound connection to this mysterious stranger. She challenged his intellect and sparked a dormant passion within his chest. Meanwhile, the rain continued to fall, isolating them in their private world. Clara reached out and lightly brushed his hand with her bare fingers. The sudden touch felt like a physical jolt of pure energy. Julian knew this marked the start of something truly transformative. The silent invite led him to a deeply authentic connection. The Weight of Unspoken Desires Clara leaned slightly closer, letting her sandalwood scent surround him. She spoke passionately about the ancient artifacts she curated daily. She described historical objects that held dark secrets for thousands of years. Julian listened intently, fascinated by her unique perspective on legacy. He realized they both sought something permanent in a temporary world. The architect shared his hidden dreams of building visionary new structures. Clara listened with a stillness that felt like profound intimacy. They were definitely no longer strangers sitting in a rainy park. The psychological tension between them reached a beautiful, agonizing peak. Julian desperately wanted to reach out and pull her closer. He wanted to bridge the final few inches of physical space. However, he respected the delicate rules of her sophisticated game. Clara maintained the distance with a teasing, highly confident power. She clearly enjoyed the romantic anticipation as much as the connection itself. The silent invite represented the slow, deliberate cultivation of desire. Julian felt every single second etching itself into his permanent memory. A Challenge for the Future The clock on the distant cathedral suddenly struck midnight. Clara stood up gracefully, smoothing the fabric of her dark dress. She didn't offer her phone number or ask for another date. Instead, she reached into her small clutch and produced an object. She held up a small, antique brass key in the moonlight. The metal looked incredibly worn and carried a complex, intricate design. "Find the door that matches this key," she instructed with a smile. She pressed the cold metal directly into his warm palm. Her fingers lingered against his skin for a heartbeat longer than necessary. Then, she walked away into the shadows before he could speak. Julian stood by the fountain, clutching the cold brass key. The silent invite evolved into a complex, thrilling scavenger hunt. He felt a massive, renewed sense of purpose for the future. The architect looked at the key and smiled into the darkness. The Beginning of the Pursuit He walked out of the park with a determined, energetic stride. The key felt heavy in his coat pocket. Julian began mentally cataloging every antique door in the historic district. He thought about hidden entrances, private galleries, and forgotten city archives. The architect realized Clara gave him much more than a key. She gave him a brilliant reason to truly see the city again. He would spend his weekends searching for the matching antique lock. He fully intended to follow the romantic breadcrumbs she left behind. Ultimately, the silent invite transformed a lonely architect completely. He stopped living for the absolute safety of his daily routine. Instead, he embraced the beautiful chaos of a romantic pursuit. Julian knew Clara would be waiting when he finally found that door. He looked up at the rainy sky and breathed deeply. For the first time in years, he ignored the foundation. He simply enjoyed the thrilling view from a brand new beginning. Read the full article
STORY TIMEEEEEE
i met this dummy on LMK cuz i wanted people to game with, but he never played. conversation was “wyd,” “hello,” that shit.
a pattern set in. every few months i’d see some positive thing on his snap story. I’d say hello, ask how he was doing. he was ALWAYS depressed and dramatically sad. I’d say a few kind words, get some “you’re unhelpful” style responses, and dip.
A couple of times he asked me for money, claiming he was about to be homeless or lose his place in school for lack of tuition, and even $2 would help his plight. I said I was too broke to give money to people idk irl, but that I’d happily and emphatically send those good vibes & thoughts and prayers. 🙄
but he watched everything. consistently. my stories, my posts. for well over a year. AND THEN ONE DAY: he asked to purchase my nudes.
i post publishing work. code. art. writing. links to my projects. no sex, nothing naked or even halfway revealing. not once. if anything, half my stories are me dragging men who bug me for sex things.
at the same time, his own posts were the opposite of how he talked.
public: positive, gym, confidence.
private: completely different person.
and then, after a year of that, he asks to buy sex services.
so i asked him directly what gave him the impression that im a sex worker.
he said he doesn’t think i’m a sex worker.
i said you literally offered money for nudes. that’s sex work.
and instead of answering, it’s just “nvm whatever.”
because there isn’t an answer. he didn’t misread anything. he made up a story in his head about what i was, ignored the reality that contradicted it, acted on his dickwants, and then was an ass instead of apologizing. and the reason k was ever nice to begin with is because I felt for him and his mysterious problems.
(See: snap story fake-positive “grind,” me asking about his inconsistencies, then him asking about the nudes and saying he didn’t “even close” to thinking i sold nudes?)
after we had that convo, later that night he posts the sad stuff on his snap story. idk if that was because of me or himself, but either way ig at least it’s more honest if nothing else.
anyway. fuck that dude. 🤣
I don’t know how to get men to ask questions on the apps, but these ⬆️ are things I know for sure.
