DC being like yeah it's valentines day let's drop the gayest issue of batgirls yet. Steph dies in Cass's arms after leaving a goodbye note in the previous issue saying "I love you." and Cass immediately brings her back and kisses her (not on the mouth because we're still in wink wink nudge nudge queerbaity hell) and then rides off into the sunset on her motorbike.

Even neutral reviewers are mentioning how romantically charged it all is and starting to question if its really going there. Like if you replace stephcass in this plotline with Superman and Lois Lane, no one would bat an eye. I'd say DC know what they're doing but they don't even realise Cass is a lesbian and it's been 20 years, so.

It drives me insane that the art deco aspects that the animated series had isn't utilized enough.

Better yet, that they keep making it 'modern' when we could have a period piece!! Let each character represent the era that they came from!

That's why I love the Blue Beetle storyline. It allowed a hero to live and die! There's a beginning, middle, and end. Most (if not all) super heroes struggle to grow nowadays is because they've been stretched thin. It works for some, but I'm tired of reading something that doesn't lead anywhere.

With multiverses, varying storylines from different writers, nothing feels concrete. I have no emotional investments due to the fact IT DOESN'T MATTER.

I'm not saying we need new heroes to take over the comic scene (we do, we really do), but there has to be a sense of NEWness even if you have to revert to the old.

you know it took these ‘ric’ comics for me to realize just how much dick is being taken advantage of, and of course the multiple posts on tumblr. And i am HYPED that dick is back but, somehow sadder. Because now, he isn’t gonna “more acceptabley” be taken advantage of by some villain (like the court, or the joker), but his own family. And that hurts, my dude. Remember the time Dick was in Bludhaven, becoming his own hero and only occassionally helping his family when they needed him bad, like the Quake? That was neat. That was good content. Now? He’s returning to his little brother becoming a villain (that’s gonna make me cry), and you just KNOW he’s gonna be dragged back into taken advantage of as he tries to fix his dysfunctional family and bring Damian back.

that reminds me ; another horribly OOC thing bruce did in one of the comics was taking jason back to his murder site ( I think to help damian or something? Idk ) . even heard people say that bruce was being manipulative here & deliberately tried to trigger him by doing this w/o any remorse. that issue was just so screwed up for portraying bruce like this.. but i think some DC fans are starting to accept that shitty portrayal as apart of his character & I refuse to believe this is who he is.

Look, I block out most contemporary Batman-related media because it’s just..... bad. There’s no nice way to put it. With a few notable exceptions (some of the Batman/Superman annuals, for instance, and the DCeased books, etc).

This..... this is one of the reasons why. It’s similar to that moment in theRic Grayson arc where they’ve barely got the bandages off the poor boy before they’re leading him through all his recent trauma and what lead up to his amnesia. Like, just hang on a second there mate.

So I know exactly the scenario you’re talking about, but can’t remember the exact context. Taking him back to his murder site?? I can’t think of any feasible reason why he’d do that except to figure out how Jason originally came back from the dead (ie, crawled out of his grave prior to Talia dunking him in the Lazarus pit). Why would he do that? I would like to sya it wasn’t to intentionally trigger him, but with how they’re writing Bruce lately I can’t definitively say, which is a shame.

I’d like to say “oh thanks for reminding me of this plotpoint I forgot about” but honestly there’s a reason I block this stuff out because it’s just distressing and frustrating to see one of my favourite franchises sink so low, ya know?

why do people hate bruce nowadays & are now starting to accept those shitty ooc portrayals of him made by canon dc as apart of his character & not as a result of mischaracterization?

I think it’s because this is how he’s been written for literal years, and people have just accepted “this is how it is; this is what he’s like.” This is no fault of any reader, just an outcome of several years (if not decades) of dumb writing, character arcs (or rather, lack thereof) and generally poor narrative decisions on behalf of the writers/editors/executives/whomever is most culpable.

And because this is how he’s been written for so long, it’s kind of hard to say “oh, it’s mischaracterisation.” Which, I kind of agree with, because it’s my opinion that this is blatant character assassination and these people (I hesitate to place the blame on just the writers, because everything has to be aproved by corporate, who could be pulling all the strings behind the scenes) are taking everything good about this beloved character and bastardising it and then publishing material about him, like hitting his kids instead of having civil discussions, etc.

In my head, Bruce/Batman is entirely different to how someone else views him because I’ve basically had he mindset of “dodgy people *coughcough* like Warren Ellis, a sex offender, *coughcough* have been in charge of publishing stories for this character, so i’m not going to take any of this too seriously.”

Again, i’ve mentioned this in previous posts, but it’d be one thing if they went with, “hey, we’re making Bruce an asshole, but we’re going to have his friends/family call him out for it.” I would be on board with that — disappointed that they’ve chosend to make him a bad human being, but on board because it’s actually going to be adressed in-story.

But they haven’t done anything like that (to my recollection; at least not anything huge), so here we are. Instead, they’ve been sending him on a downward spiral and let his poor decisions/actions go completely unadressed.
