THE NAME CHAPTER: Freefall - TXT Moodboard
Burobro ethnicity chart (these are the most basic examples of burobro individuals if you wanted to draw one you can get crazy with it)
The reasons why there colours varry are unknown but it’s speculated it has to do with the minerals that are abundant in the areas that they live in.
Each ethnicity has a acid potency that Barry’s from individuals but overall is acid, it’s different region to region because of the material they have adapted to tunnelling in. This is because the acid is meant to soften up rocks that are ahead of them.
House Crowl of Deepdown
Their sigil is ply, black and red, representing stalactites and stalagmites since the House is built within a cave at the base of a mountain. Their words are, “Look to your shores.”
Deepdown isn't a castle or a trelleborg, but is built within a deep cave. It is an icy cave carved out by the Rim River, that flows from the flinty hills in the center of the island down to the southern coast. From the outside, all that is seen is a sturdy timbered door set at the cave’s entrance, decorated with stone carvings, bones, and trinkets on either side. There is only one confirmed entrance to the stronghold, but it is speculated to have several hidden entrances throughout the mountain. The interior is said to be a filthy labyrinth of warrens with crude long halls and airless ritual chambers where the bloody paintings of the ancient First Men still decorate the walls. Although any kneeler would baulk at calling it a keep, it serves its purpose—keeping the clan safe from bears, unicorns, wolves, and the lesser clans of the Deepdown that speckle the dense forest between the two mountain ranges.
In the middle of the Deepdown forest territory is a giant protected weirwood. It is fabled to have been there before the First men arrived and is protected at all costs. This is the shared Godswood of the island. If any Skagosi seek the Godswood, no harm is allowed to come them on their journey there.
People
Majority of the Deepdown clan spend their years in the warrens making them exceptionally pallid, eyes rheumy and weak to light, and bandy legs from the low ceilings. Despite this, they are still strong from excavating and mining iron ore. Although it has never been confirmed, it is believed that there are several cave entrances in the mountains as hunting groups are found throughout the forest and in the western mountains. Cannibalism had always been prevalent on the isles, but it had almost entirely been voluntary and ritualistic. The Deepdown clans are largely the reason Skagos has a reputation for savagery. Their territory being the central forest and the southern coast, makes it the furthest from the two ports on the main island. The Deepdown were always the first point of contact for lost seamen, overzealous Essosi slavers, and curious Northmen alike all found themselves in the bellies of the Skagosi cannibals. Trespassers had their cleaned-out skulls displayed on spikes lining the path to the caverns. Some of the more wild tales claimed they would keep the women for breeders and eat the men alive in front of their friends. The Deepdown are also suspicious of wargs; they believe Skinchangers and wargs are cursed by the Children of the forest and send them into the wilds where they are usually killed or else picked up by primitive Skagosi shamans who teach them the ways of beasts. A defining feature of the clan is their long, lean build along with the Skagosi height. They often wear untanned skins, bleached skulls, and carved bone jewelry.
The Crowl clan are the undisputed rulers of the Deepdown and have dwelled inside the icy river valley caverns for centuries. Less Lords and more clan chieftains, they are a noble house that have long since forgone the title of Magnar (Old Tongue: Lord). The Crowls of Deepdown have always had a dark and infamous history, even among the Skagosi—taboos of cannibalism, first night rights, dark arts shamanism, torture, and slave breeding. Theoren Crowl, former Paramount, took many wives and had many children beyond count. The distinction between his servants, thralls and distant relations is lost with every child he sired. He acknowledged all children from his true wife and only the first born sons of any other. Pedr is his only son from his first, true marriage, but is only a toddler. Regna, Theoren’s mother is regent until Pedr comes of age.
