BAND SPACES ARE NOT SAFE FOR DISABLED PEOPLE.

Not because we haven’t spoken up.

We have. Repeatedly.

Quietly.

Loudly.

Through pain, burnout, fear of being pushed out.

But no one listens.

Not until someone who isn’t disabled says the exact same thing - and suddenly it matters.

Suddenly, it's “a valid concern.”

Suddenly, people care.

We’ve been asking for:

* ⚠️ Strobe warnings

* 🪑 Seated options

* 🧠 Quiet/sensory spaces

* ♿ Basic access

For years.

And we've been met with silence. Shrugs. Eye-rolls.

“You're just being dramatic.”

“This isn’t a show for people like you.”

But the moment an abled voice says

“hey, maybe they have a point,”

People act like it’s brand new information.

Disabled people don’t become believable when abled people speak.

They’ve been telling the truth the whole time.

If you only start caring about accessibility when it’s repeated by someone without those needs, you’re not being inclusive.

You’re just comfortable with erasing us.

Growing up with a sister who is both physically and mentally disabled, I've seen time and time again how people with disabilities are often pushed to the sidelines and ignored. The fact that Myles has taken the time to greet and physically reach out to this fan speaks volumes to his character ❤️

So I don't know any of the terminology if there is any, but I think we don't talk about how if you're disabled you might not know what's your "real" pain limit. Like. For me it's more often the question of "how much I am willing to endure", and not "does it hurt". Because sometimes it really does. But at the same time I can't stop thinking that because my body is the way it is, and sometimes it hurts when it wouldn't hurt an able-bodied person, I have no choice but to withdraw from certain activities. And sometimes (more often than not, really) I push myself beyond my limit, all because I don't want to feel even more excluded than I already am from, well... Life.

The world is built for able-bodied people, and that's a fact. You guys are the default. With all adjustments to accommodate people with various disabilities the places where there are exactly zero adjustments stick out like a sore thumb.

And just, I think it's just pretty fucked up to live in a world where I have to bargain with myself about how much pain my body can take so that I can do things, and not feel like I'm simply existing.

Disabled people are only “believable” once someone without our struggles decides our pain is real enough to echo. We’re only visible when someone more palatable repeats our words. Until then? We're treated as inconvenient, dramatic, or just not trying hard enough.

You don’t get to call a space inclusive when it only starts listening once an abled voice speaks. That’s not allyship. That’s erasure.

Band spaces aren’t truly safe for disabled people - not until someone without those struggles barges in, speaks over them, and decides how accessibility should be handled.

Because it’s never about listening. It’s about control.

Yesterday I physically went to classes at my uni for the first time since I enrolled last year!

After a year of online classes I finally went to the place I've been hearing a lot about, wondering what it's going to be like. I was mostly anxious about two things - the people and their stares (I'm in a wheelchair at the moment) and whether I was going to get everywhere in time without getting lost or having any, and I mean ANY types of mishaps on the way. Being rather neurotic I could easily think about a million things that could go wrong. And some did? Like the thing with me not having the time to go the the bathroom until my classes ended. But I took care of that, so it's fine. And my last lecture - it turned out that the auditorium where it's held had these 3 steps leading up to the main part of the room. Which is not ideal when you're in a wheelchair? It kinda put me on the spot which I do not like!!! but oh well.

The people in my year are sooo nice tho!!! I'm older than them since I think all of them or most of them graduated highschool just last year? And I... did that 8 years ago 🤣🤣🤣 they were absolutely lovely tho and I'm so happy that I found at least a couple people who weren't afraid of talking to me given my wheelchair. Can you believe people still get uneasy around people in wheelchairs??? Bestie!!! No!!! I'm just a person!!! Talk to me!!!

And it was sooo cute, when I first arrived in the morning before our first class, they were like "oh, are you ___?" And when I was like "yeah!!!" They all went to shaking my hand and introducing themselves one by one, which was sooooo cute babes 🥺🥺🥺🥺

I love them all so much!

After a couple hours nonstop in a wheelchair my back hurt, but I must say, I really had a wonderful day yesterday!!!
