So I just watched Superman (2025) and I have some thoughts. Spoilers below the cut, Obviously
1. Right out of the gate, Supes is extremely true to character. I love the charm, I love the down home country "Don't take the lord's name in vain golly gosh jeepers" attitude. This is fully Clark as we know and love him, not some dark Troubled twisted version.
2. KRYPTO IS BEST BOY, PROVE ME WRONG. I WANT TO SEE KRYPTO AND BATDOG INTERACT.
3. Lois Lane is pretty cunty, Pretty girlboss, but I'd love to see more development of her character outside of Clark. Her scenes in the T-UFO or whatever that fuckin' pod is called were some of my favorite of hers.
4. I'm slightly upset that they immediately make Lex explicitly evil, but I don't fault them. This is a story that most of us know, we are well aware that Luthor is the big bad. That being said, I would love a Lex with a touch more dignity. It is fun to see that whiny baby get his ass handed to him though, and he seems like a very dangerous adversary, which is brilliant.
5. I TOTALLY FUCKING CALLED THE BIZARRO/ULTRAMAN PLOT TWIST BITCH, COME ON NOW! Of course it's Bizarro, of course he falls into the black hole, of course that's how he becomes all fucked up and twisted!!!! I'm really excited to see where they go with that.
6. Who gave Nathan Fillion that fuckass bowl cut. I just want to talk.
7. It's odd that they decided to go with the "Take care of this planet, enslave it, colonize it" twist from Jor El and Lara rather than save that for Hawk Girl. I believe at some point in the comics she was revealed to be a spy for her people in the conquering of Earth (I think, please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not that deep into DC on the comics side at least) and it seems like it would feel derivative to rehash that plot for her later down the line.
8. MARTHA FUCKING KENT YOU NATIONAL TREASURE
9. Mr. Terrific, no notes. Ate that shit up and left no crumbs. 10/10
10. I love seeing Alan Tudyk play silly little robo guys
11. I am obsessed with how ruthlessly Cat serves. I want her, I want to be her, I wanna be her best friend, I am thoroughly shook.
12. Clex shippers are you okay?
13. Kara really demonstrates the corn fed attitude of growing up on the farm with Ma and Pa Kent that Clark has.
14. Free Jaharnpur and justice for Mali the Kebab Man
15. Lovely to see you, Sean Gunn 💕
This movie feels like a new beginning for superhero films as a whole. A lighter more genuine approach to the comic book aspect of things as a whole. There were genuinely dark moments and epic visuals and points where you're biting your nails on the edge of your seat, but through it, they never compromise the characters. Clark feels like Clark. Superman feels like superman, like the Superman he's always been since his first comic. Lois feels genuine! Luthor, Green Lantern, Terrific, hell even Bizarro feels FAITHFUL TO THE SOURCE MATERIAL. Much like RDJ to Tony Stark or Evans to Cap, Corenswet especially has stuck to the character steadfastly, and it feels like Superman finally found his voice again. It feels like DC found its voice again.
For the first time since middle school, I am excited for the future of the DC Cinematic Universe.
