Fun(?) fact #4: About Hiccup and Merida's families

After Hiccup and Merida had been snatched away from their homes by the yetis and taken to North Pole, the yetis left behind letters written by North in which he explained the situation; how Hiccup and Merida had been chosen as Guardians and been given a choice to accept the role. Both Berk and DunBroch tried to look for them nevertheless, but failed, and all they could do is wait.

After months of the two missing, both Stoick and Elinor blamed themselves, thinking that because of all the pressure and harsh demands they had put on their kids, Hiccup and Merida had rather become Guardians and face possible death than come back home to their families.

(Later Hiccup and Merida considered sending letters home but decided against it, knowing their people would try to track them down with the letters and they didn't want to endanger their families.)
