more thoughts about the video under cut
i think that one thing that’s bothering me about everyone’s response to Roman lashing out at Janus is that no one (from what i’ve seen so far) is really acknowledging what Janus said immediately prior to revealing his name.
to preface: i’m 100% of the belief that Roman was Wrong to laugh about Janus’s name -- although, if i’m being honest, i also laughed if only because how much it took me off guard -- and i also fully concede that the way that Roman treated Janus at the end of the video was unfair and warranted an apology. HOWEVER, prior to Roman’s outburst, Janus’s words were already... kind of hurtful?
like. i know that Janus was trying to be kind when he told Roman that the sacrifice that he made for the wedding -- while bearing 0 benefit and resulting in a net loss -- was a commendable thing. but if you look at Roman’s face from the time stamp of around 39:04 to 39:40, he obviously didn’t take it that way. and, to be honest, i don’t really blame him??? because janus -- although well meaning -- almost offered a backhanded compliment of sorts; although he genuinely seemed to admire Roman’s choice to sentence Thomas to the wedding, a lot of his dialogue can come across as a bit bitter. he says that it was a “costly choice” to go to the wedding, and that it ultimately “served no one” -- two facts that Roman already knew and had likely already beat himself up for at length. janus then went on to conclude that selflessness was the Wrong Choice, and although i believe that he was Absolutely Right, it was also kind of,,, an unnecessary slap in the face for Roman, i think? idk, it just felt like Janus’s sentiment, although intended to be friendly, got lost in translation, and in the end, his compliment could have easily been perceived as him honing in on the mistake that Roman had made and needlessly chastising him for it
again, i’m aware that it wasn’t Janus’s intention for his words to be read this way, and Roman definitely should have reigned in his displaced anger rather than unleashing it on a side who, realistically, didn’t deserve it. but even so, i can’t say that i don’t see where Roman’s sudden frustration seemed to have stemmed from.
tldr, Roman Needs to Apologize, but his reaction, from a narrative standpoint, made sense to me, SO. (i’m inclined to cut him a lil slack)
Do you ever get lonely? Sometimes I do and I wish there was someone else who thought like me. I feel like I can't relate to anyone else, then I feel awfully immature and like I think I'm better than other people. I don't and I wish I was like everyone else and I cared about the things they do. Sometimes I wish I cared about dating men and falling in love and grinding at careers and YouTube and everything else. I guess I could manifest someone to be my friend but then it wouldn't feel "earned". Does that make sense? I'm glad your page exists and your Twitter, because I feel like someone reflects my thoughts. Maybe I manifested coming across your page. I wish you all the best anyways. You can delete this right away if you want sorry
I definitely used to feel lonely and misunderstood back when I was just starting out with my blog, though I am on the solitary side and do not struggle with isolation as much. It takes effort for me to conceptualize the extent of other people's desire for personal connections, but I understand where you're coming from.
Being critical of your surroundings is an isolating perspective in general because very few people choose that kind of path for themselves; most of the time, people themselves are the ones contributing to the mess that is Earth and it can be quite difficult to come across someone who doesn't fit this criteria. I'm glad that my social media resonates with people and helps them connect with themselves, and I definitely recommend creating your own account and posting your thoughts if that is something you feel safe doing, because it will increase the likelihood of you connecting with your soulmates. You probably know by now that the following statement is true considering how old this message is, so this is more of a confirmation for you... You will definitely meet the right people at the right time and being surrounded by like-minded people, even if it is something impersonal as simply going through their blog, is already a good start.
one of my favorite moments in knives out is one of the characters makes a hamilton reference and it’s clearly a cringe and awkward moment for everyone involved
