WHAT ARE MY EXPECTATIONS FOR MY EXCHANGE

hey what's up? today i'm going to share w/ you and with my future me my expectations for my exchange. i have high hopes for this. and i'm afraid that i'm not going to achive all of it. i think all of us, who are going for exchanges get very excited before the trip. i know that i'm like, couting the minutes. the seconds! today is august 6th and i'm like ''WHATTT? less than a month!!!" 

I WANT TO MAKE FRIENDS: here in my country i don't really have a lot of friends. i don't like talking to people or anything like that. and i want it to change, because without friends, the experience of the exchange it's not going to be the same. 

I WANT TO MEET NEW PLACES: i want to spend the less time at home as i can. i really want to meet new places, take a lot of pictures and see things that i would never have seen here. (maybe i will post some of those pictures here, maybe...) that's going to change a lot inside of me, my perception of the world is going to chance as well. basically, in my exchange i want to change.

everbody told me to not creat expectations. frist of all, that's impossible and second, why not ? it's good to creat some, not much, but it's good to think, to imagine, to dream, to creat hopes for yourself! people don't want to us to get disapointed and get that. but it's the only way we're going to lear how to deal with it. and that's basically the whole point of going into this experience. changing, growing, learning. :)

Hey everyone! I was wondering if you guys think it's a bad idea to transfer into another course when we're already in the 4th week of school? One of the courses I'm in, I absolutely do not like and I have no motivation to do anything but I found another course that I'm SO interested in (I went to one lecture yesterday to check it out) and the prof for that course is amazing as well! Do you think I should still go for it or stay in the course I don't like?

That will depend on how much work you’re willing to put into the new course you’re switching to. If you don’t mind catching up on 4 weeks of readings and there’s space in the class, then yes you should do it. You’ll also have to talk to the professor because there might have been some work handed in for the class by now as well, and you will likely have to do that too.

Personally, I wouldn’t do it just because switching to a new course at this point in the semester is not only tedious, but it would also give me a lot of extra work to do.

If i exchange a winter course with another winter course, would i still be charged? thank you

Nope.

I really hate my humanities class, if I switch it for another humanities class worth the same credits this week will there be a penalty/will it cost the same?

Today is the last day to switch without penalty. If you switch tomorrow, you pay a 10% penalty essentially.

I didn't see the option to exchange a course on REM after adding a course then dropping the other. Will there be a difference in my tuition? (Both courses were 3 credits)

The exchange option is right near the add and drop on REM.

I am not sure what to do. I emailed the prof who's teaching the course I want to enrol in (the class is full) and he said to try enrolling and if I can't enrol by the 24th, I would have to get his permission, as well as the TA's. However, if I wait until then to do that and exchange that course with one of the courses I currently have but want to drop, I will be charged. Do you think I should drop that course now and then wait to see if I can get into the other course? I just need advice. Thanks

If you don’t want to get charged then don’t wait too late to change the course. You can always do courses during the summer session as well. Also, even if enrollment can occur with the permission of the instructor, that does not mean you’ll get into the course. You can ONLY enroll in the course if there’s actually space available.

Hi, if I exchange courses after the deadline (September 16) will I be charged extra fees? Or is that only if you drop a course? Thank you for your time!

An exchange is a drop and an add with the built in security of not dropping a course if space in the new one isn’t available, so fees will still be charged.

i exchanged a course today, will i be charged again because osap already paid so....

You’ll be fine. As long as you change F/Y courses before/by Sept 16 you won’t be charged extra.
