not to fabularasa post but there’s a bit in their fic Sanctuary (everyone go read it) where bruce reveals that alfred owns half the house/property. I think that might fit in, somehow, to pennywaynes — Bruce might not know the extent of the relationship between thomas/martha/alfred, but he knows that Alfred is his father

YES. YES!!!! I think I first encountered fabularasa’s work when I was first reading batman fic in the early 2010s. she’s had such a huge influence on how I approach writing and thinking about trauma and intimacy. Thank you fabularasa!!!! idk if she’s on tumblr or anything but if you are a DC fan and haven’t checked her out go look her up on AO3 now

Summary:

Long ago, theLiterator had an amazing fic idea: Hal Jordan is confronted with a former commanding officer who had sexually assaulted him, and Bruce figures out what is going on. theLit wrote some of that story but never finished it, but I was lucky enough to get to read it in draft form. I thought the idea was phenomenal, and it haunted me for years. I loved it so much that I began playing with it in my head, and spinning my own version of that world. I ended up writing it down and showing it to them -- sheepishly, because it was theLit's idea and theLit's world, and here I was just messing with it. They liked it, and gave their permission for me to post. With their blessing, I am posting my version of their idea here. All credit for the idea, and for the character of General Stern, goes to theLiterator, not to me. Go read their stuff, seriously.

It’s been a while since I went down a batlantern rabbit hole and read a bunch of fics in a frenzy and I don’t remember them all but this fic is one that has stuck with me. Also I just think that this blog needs more FabulaRasa on it so I’m using this as an opportunity to propagandize for not just this fic but their entire catalog. They’ve got a lot of fic and it’s all really good go enjoy yourselves everyone

hi! do you have any recs for fics that are character studies (that go into character’s backstories) for batlantern? especially hal?

Character studies! I love those. I could sit down and read those for hours. I tried my best to comb through some fics for you, but some of these are more so prose-heavy than just straight up character studies. I recommend checking out some of FabulaRasa’s stuff if you haven’t already. They’re really good at constructing well though out AUs/backstories. I tried to put the more Hal-centric ones towards the top of the list. As always, anyone is welcome to reblog this and add on to the list!

The Dinner Party by FabulaRasa - This is just a short piece that explores two ideas: a) what happens when Hal intersects with some of the unpleasant aspects of Bruce's world, and b) what happens when Bruce decides to date someone but forgets to tell them.

Hal had written to his soulmate all his life despite the lack of answer.

Camellias (Series) by ViiA01 - Bruce watched as Hal shepherded Jason and Damian out of the room. And to think, he was worried they wouldn’t accept Hal or his relationship with Bruce. Seeing how Hal was with all his children, it made Bruce’s chest tight with emotion.

He had never wanted this, but now that he had it, he didn’t want to ever let it go.
