I loved that our heroes weren't automatically immune to ableism just because they're Good Guys. Even if Ben was more concerned about the injury itself because, you know, that's his friend missing her hand, but it was clearly something that had been bugging Brooklynn for the whole year. Therefore, even when her friend was Concerned, it still touched the exact same nerve as she misinterpreted his stare.
