Their first week in their new house was the week of New Years! 

New Year’s Eve the girls hung out on their dock. Haley didn’t know much about Sulani since she hadn’t lived there long before Tayler moved so the cousins decided to explore before they went out for the night.

‘Tis the season.

I’ve been working on the garden for a coupla months now. It keeps my mind off things (sort of) and it’s turned me into a bright red lobster. That’s alright, I have a habit of sunburning then directly suntanning. It’s just vaguely painful in between and requires lots of lotion.

There is a lot one can do, even when freak freezes still threaten. Right now I can’t even put my peppers and ‘maters down just yet, because next Mon/Sun we’re being threatened with 34-25 temps overnight (jut a coupla degrees above freezing, Celsius). They’re getting hella leggy in the greenhouse... Still everything else is going nicely!

Red lettuce. While green lettuce grows faster, red lettuce survives the heat of summer for much longer without bolting. There are two kinds here, and I will be planting two more later, but did not have room on this particular row.

Castor oil should be planted with care, not just because it’s toxic, but because it turns into a monster of a tree. If someone tells you it’s a dwarf, they’re Liar McLiars lying to you. The leaf is as big as my torso, and I have a lotta torso.

It’s great for keeping moles and gophers off your garden, though. The roots are a natural barrier. And the beans are beautiful; I would make jewelry outta them if I knew what I was doing.

Horse radish is one of those things that should be planted in a controlled environment, like mint. The forks are because a stray cat was trying to make a habit of using the basket as a litterbox. Not pictured is the giant horseradish root that escaped containment anyways. I swear...

Thyme, oregano and lemon balm will overwinter in... just about anything short of continuous hard freezing. If the winter is mild enough the thyme and the oregano might not even die at all.

... I did not plant dill this year. I also did not plant dill last year, but that did not seem to stop it either time. Definitely will be saving seed. The chamomile is too small to photograph, and the blue peas, onions, calendula and eyeballs have not come in properly. More pics when they do, I guess.
