Jennifer Kale: While she has shown up in quite a few comics, mostly on the horror side of Marvel, I feel like she’s not a character many people really care about sadly. She’s a witch, she hangs out with everyone’s favourite swamp monster (well he’s MY favourite swamp monster), she’s bisexual, and I just think she’s neat.
Jonas Graymalkin: jonas graymalkin is charles xavier’s great times a million uncle from the 1770s who basically time travelled to 2009 / the modern day as a teenager (this is not exactly what happened but i dont want to get into it so im lying). he has been a “main” character in one ongoing (young x-men), which was bad, and a pride oneshot, which was also bad. the bulk of his appearances have been as background student no 6.
Ive been very slow lately but it seems I have yet to recover from the brainrot these two brought me, I wanna see more of them in 2024!
So, hello, im still alive lol
Sorry for disappearing for 2 whole months, id like to say I was busy but I think I was just unmotivated? Like I say, lack of comics really hinders my ability to be creative smh. One of these days I stumbled across some fanart I had made in 2021 and it brought me such a warm feeling, I really like to draw cozy scenes and that thought really motivated me enough to try and work out of the tens of sketches I had already started
Now personal stuff cuz I use tumblr like a diary entry lol
So back in October I got a job, and since then I feel like I care about it too much and work too hard, dedicate too many hours and basically I take it too seriously. And I cant quit cuz im stuck in a “don’t have experience cuz I don’t have a job – cant get a job because I have no experience” so hopefully I could just stomach this until the summer hoping that this will provide me with the experience I need to start a real career? (this is my first job)
I have many personal plans for 2024, like starting an online store to sell some handmade stuff and whatnot, so hopefully I can get this going before the summer. Typing this reminded me of this quote by Margot Fonteyn “The one important thing I have learned over the years is the difference between taking one's work seriously and taking one's self seriously. The first is imperative and the second is disastrous.” But im feeling like in my life it might just be the other way around… I need to take my job less seriously (sounds bad but it isnt actually, I swear) and myself more seriously
I did a couple of really cool things this year, I presented my master thesis, finally got a sewing machine and sewn a bunch of clothes, got a job, knitted a sweater and got my drivers license (after quitting in 2019 cuz my instructors told me I would never be able to do it, suck it, man)
So yeah, Im excited about some of my wishes to come to fruition and I hope comics bring me some inspo for art cuz I need it. cheers to that
I looove that these two got paired up together! I have had many thoughts about Dallas over the years and if there was an academy x kid i which would turn out to be queer, Dallas was actually top 3 on my list!!
And listen, Jonas was so long overdue for a boyfriend, I was so excited about the Pride story from... either last year or the year before where Jonas tells Victor he has a date, i was so giddy someone, anyone, would finally write a story and let us in on who could this potential date be. ok, we do not have confirmation (nor does it really matter) if Dallas was the date but i do like to believe he was <3 i hope we get to see more from them, Gimmick is in dark x-men but since Kafka is somewhere in the desert... i just love the war college, let's put the kids back together, id be seated.
anyway, about the illustration, i came up with the concept so fast i surprised myself, in less than 30 minutes i had whipped up this whole bedroom set up with knickknacks (?) and stuff... then it did take me 11 more hours to render cuz im really slow...
anyway, i thought of this as being Jonas' room. I like old stuff myself, but i liked the idea that maybe Jonas is so well adapted to the current world that he likes trendy/aesthetic stuff and so i had fun mixing in a traditional and more contemporary objects. I wanted to add something antique, clearly Victorian but i was without internet most of the time i worked on this and could not think of anything other than a hand-crank sewing machine, it was in the original sketch but i felt it was out of place so it got substituted with a wii... not really the same, is it?
