These Almost-Famous Animal-Style Burgers are a tasty take on the regular burger. They come with grilled onions, pickles, a juicy patty, and American cheese on top. With Larisa Alvarez's recipe, this famous fast-food favorite tastes more like it was made at home.
Ingredients: 1 1/2 pounds ground beef chuck 80% lean. 1/2 teaspoon salt. 1/2 teaspoon black pepper. 4 hamburger buns. 1/4 cup mayonnaise. 2 tablespoons ketchup. 1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish. 1/2 teaspoon white vinegar. 1/2 teaspoon sugar. 1/4 teaspoon yellow mustard. 1/2 cup diced yellow onion. 4 slices American cheese. 8 dill pickle chips. Vegetable oil for grilling. 1/4 cup finely chopped lettuce. 1/4 cup tomato slices. 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese. 1/4 cup grilled diced onions optional. 1/4 cup grilled diced pickles optional.
Instructions: Warm up the grill over medium-high heat. Put the ground beef, salt, and black pepper in a large bowl and mix them together. Split the mixture in half and shape each half into a burger patty. Put the burger patties on the grill and cook them for four minutes on each side, or until they're done the way you like them. Cover the grill and add a slice of American cheese to top of each patty in the last minute of cooking. This will melt the cheese. While the burgers are cooking, split the buns in half and toast them on the grill until they are just barely browned. To make the special sauce, mix the mayonnaise, ketchup, sugar, white vinegar, sweet pickle relish, and yellow mustard in a small bowl with a whisk. Put the burgers together: Put some special sauce on the bottom bun, then put a grilled patty with melted cheese on top of it. On top of that, put some diced onions, pickles, lettuce, and tomato slices. You can add grilled diced onions and pickles for extra flavor if you want to. After putting the burger together, put the top bun on top and gently press it down. Serve right away.
