I’m thinking about Ghezen and Kerch and the Grishaverse worldbuilding again, and I think it’s really interesting that Ghezen appears to be the only God in the religion and yet, unusually for monotheistic religions, is almost alwayd referred to with the specification “god of industry and commerce” rather than simply as “God”. We know that the other major religions in the Grishaverse are both polytheistic; there are many Saints of different attributes, and though no other Fjerdan gods are named we are explicitly told Djel is part of a pantheon in a conversation between Nina and Matthias (“you know our gods?” “Some” “but you know Djel?” Or something close to that, this is from memory). But, like much about the major religion in Kerch (I would say especially because our two Kerch main characters are atheists), we don’t know whether Ghezen is the only god, the leader of a pantheon, or part of a pantheon that used to be more widely worshiped but has over time narrowed to focus on Ghezen as part of the religious manifestations of Ketterdam’s extreme capitalism and classism. I’ve been thinking about it as well in conjunction with the essay I plan to write about death in Ketterdam and it’s class system, because writing about death usually leads to religious topics but we don’t really have any information as to whether their are religious rites for deceased Kerch, except perhaps to speculate that they might favour burial over burning and that’s why the richest of the city pay to have their bodies removed to the countryside whilst the lower classes are burned on the Reaper’s Barge. But anyway getting distracted by my future plans for that post now, the point of this is just general intrigue on what you all think:

Do you think Ghezen, god of industry and commerce, is part of a pantheon or a singular God?

Pantheon/polytheism but Ghezen is the “main” god

Monotheism; Ghezen is the only God

I gave this question that has been buzzing in my mind, and it's whether Jesper's addiction to gambling is to do with him not using his powers. I honestly am not sure whether it is or not all I know is that is was in Crooked Kingdom when I think Matthais called Jesper sick beacuse of his gambling addiction because unlike other grisha who don't use their powers Jesper doesn't look sick, so it was mentioned that it could be his gambling addiction which was the manifestation of Jesper not using his power so that his gambling addiction.

(I hope what I have said makes sense as I struggle with writing)
