Calling Hal or Guy his husband is like a one-hit KO in an argument, and he brings it up so infrequently that it's impossible to not be fucking gobsmacked when he does it. Guy is quicker to recover and will keep arguing where he left off, but Hal is compliant for the rest of the argument and maybe an hour afterward. It's actually freaky.

hal's spent how many years trying desperately not to get tied down? john wages psychological warfare on this man because now he can just call hal his husband and any assorted nicknames or terms of endearment to make him do whatever the hell he wants.

examples:

hal's left dirty dishes in the sink? 'hey honey, go stack the dishwasher.'

someone needs to go pick keli up? 'be a good husband and get our kid for me won't you?'

needs hal to wear a suit and tie for whatever event? 'you'd look just as good as you did on our wedding day.'

all of these are said in perfect deadpan. hal takes psychic damage each time
