Cafe AKIRA Shibamata, Tokyo
Nestled deep in the mountains, Daihōji (大宝寺) is the 44th stop on the Shikoku Pilgrimage. Pilgrims travel nearly 80 km from the previous temple to reach this serene sanctuary. Towering cedar trees and moss-covered stones make the approach feel almost otherworldly.
These images capture some of the temple’s unique features. The golden-hued Kannon statue stands gracefully, symbolizing compassion. Nearby, Jizō statues, protectors of lost souls, are adorned with bibs left by visitors praying for loved ones. The grand temple gate, built with intricate wooden craftsmanship, guards the sacred grounds.
Kannon (観音) is the bodhisattva of mercy in Buddhism, often depicted holding a vessel of wisdom and compassion. Jizō (地蔵) statues, common in Japan, are protectors of travelers and children. Seeing them in this mountain retreat adds a deep spiritual presence.

Spring is for foraging young plants and one of them is udo （独活/うど/Aralia cordata/Japanese spikenard). Wild udo is more green and we eat the young plants. Farmed udo is grown underground to keep its white color by preventing photosynthesis and the development of chlorophyll. 大阪で古代遺跡を発見！？住宅街に現れた“土のピラミッド”（2025年12月16日） 大阪の住宅街に、ピラミッドのような不思議な構造物が存在します。
今回訪れたのは「土塔」。 一見ただの土の山に見えますが、古代に築かれた歴史的な建造物です。
独特な形状や構造には明確な意味があり、当時の技術や思想が色濃く残されています。 住宅街に突如現れるその姿は、まるで異世界の遺跡のような存在感です。
