This warlock patron is called a Trickster. A Trickster is a powerful otherwordly entity: resourceful, cunning, prone to mischief, manipulative, and deceitful. A Trickster upsets rules and conventions, delighting in pushing boundaries to further their goals.

Tricksters occupy a wonderful and delightful place in mythologies and folklore across all of human cultures, and I think that because often they are powerful with magic abilities, but often not gods, they make perfect Warlock patrons.

This warlock subclass is very unique, mixing abilities similar to a druid (shapechanging), divination wizard (changing rolls), and the rune knight (making others the targets of your attacks).

Another one of my older homebrews, this one was for a player who ended up the rescuer of a haunted marionette. I like the idea of a warlock whose patron chose them and only them. Kind of nice, ya know?

It is a canon fact that Jinx Cats do not bond well, do not listen and do not respect anyone who isn’t their Warlock (and even then they still don’t listen well) So Diethre is the only man alive in the planet that can get away with putting this one specific cat in a little prom dress and have it look at him like that.

Brew Post: The Sunderborn

Notes from the Creator: We previously looked at Sunderborn and how to convert certain elementals and fiends into their sunder form, but some beings that have shifted have become so powerful that they can amass followers even while trapped within the Sunder. These Sunderborn choose individuals to work towards their freedom, and to revel in the chaos of the world. This is a personal favorite of mine, as I love playing warlocks. The Sunderborn patron is very much still in phase one testing, so I appreciate any feedback from anyone who plays it! As more people playtest this and other class brews on this page, I will be able to tweak and update them to be more balanced and effective. Next week we go back to the lore a little bit to look at the Dreaming Rebellion following the War of Four Cities, and included will be a few more adventure hooks. Have a good week!

This warlock patron is El-Ahrairah, the Prince of Rabbits, who takes the form of a giant, otherwordly rabbit. Known as a trickster, El-Ahrairah takes pleasure in pulling pranks, causing mischief, and promoting general chaos. However, El-Ahrairah is much more noble and good than his reputation or deeds might first indicate. On closer inspection, his targets for trickery are always those who oppress, control, or harass the small, weak, and powerless. He is also a fierce defender of the natural world, and is well-respected among druids, fey, and races such as elves and gnomes; though they don't always agree with his methods. This warlock subclass offers a melee alternative compared to the Hexblade or a Bladelock multiclass, fun trickster spells, and evasion/utility. The El-Ahrairah patron is based off of Richard Adam's excellent novel Watership Down.
