Okay but like what if Harry killing the basilisk, the King of the snakes, and being bitten by it left behind some sort of smell that snakes could smell on him and know what he is?
It could go two ways:
one: he is seen as a king slayer for having killed the basilisk, and all of the snakes know to stay away from him. Only the conjured ones are daring enough to get close him because he is the one that made them, and his own magic has no reason to fear him
Or, two: he is seen as sort of human king because being bitten by the basilisk made him smell like it. The snakes are confused as to why a scrawny, under fed teen smells like a king snake, but he is also a speaker so they do not question it much and view him as a sort of royalty
