I Imagine him getting in the mindset of figuring out how the ship works like he did with the Iron Lung. Except this time, it's something he chooses to do. It's something that allows him autonomy again, something he hasn't had since... Well, since the rapture.

if i can muse for a second i think this is the exact sweet spot HtP rides - which is imo a big part of why it's so beloved, because it really understands the serious / funny WoD line
if it is all funny and not at all serious, you're barely playing WoD
if it's all serious and not at all funny, you have no levity and it negatively affects the stakes
a bit of lore for context: so I flinch like VERY easily, im a very jumpy person and it doesn’t take much tbh (like someone once asked me if i was abused bc of how easily i flinch. thankfully im not and never have been, im just a coward lol). but one time my guy friend was talking to me and he gets very excited very easily and he was motioning around and I flinched js barely but he completely stopped talking and stared at me for a beat and then asked if I was scared of him. i immediately was like no I trust you a ton and we moved on but now it’s giving me ideas
im imagining being in a convo with sylus and he quickly raises his hand maybe to point at smth or make a point and you flinch and he just. stops. his eyes go wide and his heart breaks at the thought of you, sweet wonderful you, being afraid of him like everyone else. he immediately retreats and holds back on touching you, beating himself up all the while. it gets to a point where you confront him and he confesses that he hates the idea of you being scared of him. he wants to be the one you run to for safety, not the one that makes you cower in fear.
or maybe it happens with caleb after his return and his heart just shatters bc you never used to flinch around him. other people, sure, and he knew it was nothing bad with them but you still would never flinch around him bc you knew gege would keep you safe. but now he’s died and come back and been entirely taken apart and put back together wrong and he knows it’s not the same, he knows he’s not what you once relied on. but to see it manifest like this, to even consider the possibility that you feel unsafe around him? it’s enough to make caleb finally admit that he might not be best for you
I like to think Joker really likes to stick to the "two sides of the same coin thing" as in he and Batman are the same but the opposite, so when he feels Bruce is changing, for the better or worse, he knows he can't stop the stubbord bat, so he changes with him, or against him ig(?).
Like, with time, Batman got a big family, but he is still known for 'working alone', so Joker did the opposite, he got a whole lot of goons and just let them slack off doing nothing, cuz he himself did everything. Just doing it for appearances, just to have eveything how he envisions it, his perfect little insane world or something.
He really wants to, in that metaphor, keep his distance the same from Batman, like magnets placed perfectly to both attract and repel, and stay in the same place, close to one and other, but not touching. He doesn't want to become too different, cuz then he's just another random rogue, and he doesn't want either to become too simular, since that'd probably cause one of them to join the other side.
He doesn't mind changing for this, since he is a very coloured-in canvas, but he is still a canvas, perfect to be painted on always, by him and his paintbrush of obsession.
