hey! been a fan of your work for quite a time, now, and was wondering what happened. i was looking foward to that skaia backgrounds tutorial planned.

Thanks for the concern. I'm alright, it's just that last year my computer kept getting the BSoD, and then my apartment building burned down, and the backup drives I had were unreadable so I had to salvage what I could from whatever was backed up to the cloud and another dying hard drive.

I'm on a Linux laptop now, and while I could get by with FOSS for these tutorials, I'd like to get back on Windows to use Photoshop for consistency/accuracy's sake. Rent and bills have been buttfucking me sideways though so it's hard to save up for repairs or a new computer.

The Skaia backgrounds tutorial was gonna be about the checker pattern and a couple different ways of adding the prophetic images in the clouds, I believe. The latter is a bit more involved, but the former is dead simple to do so I could explain it here a bit:

On one layer, draw some black and white stripes.

On another layer above it, draw some white stripes.

If you set the topmost layer's blend mode to "Difference", it'll invert the colors beneath it.

You'll want to clip the top layer to the bottom layer so it doesn't invert anything outside of the contents you intended. I'll leave that up to you as an exercise.

Are incipispheres inside the universe (Genesis frog) that created them, or are they outside of the universe? Cuz I’ve gotten both answers from just as many people before, and parts of the comic seems to imply contradictory answers.

Okay so I need a detailed explanation of where exactly everything is in relation to eachother in homestuck, like where is the genesis frog in relation to the furthest ring, where is the medium compared to the incipisphere, where are two genesis frogs in relation to each other, where is your original home planet in relation to the medium etc. Thank you.

Okay, let’s begin with the easy ones, The Medium and the Incipisphere. Consider the Incipisphere to be the entirety of the Session- It encompasses the ‘Dimension’ so to say where SBURB happens. Skaia, the Lands, Prospit and Derse, the Veil, and reaches outwards beyond Derse and into the Furthest Ring. Much like the ‘Dream Bubbles’ you could consider the Incipisphere as the ‘Bubble’ the Session is contained within, except there doesn’t seem to be any actual, physical boundary between the Furthest Ring and the Session. The Medium, meanwhile, is considered as the space between the Veil and Skaia- Basically the Void where the Lands orbit, with Skaia and Prospit at its centre.

Now, the Genesis Frog is the objective of the game. You create an Universe, and it is created within Skaia if you complete the Session. Time and Space is weird in the Furthest Ring, meaning nothing has a set ‘distance’ or ‘position’ within, nor is even in the same time frame! So you can consider the Sessions to be pretty much spread out at Random in this realm, with the Genesis Frog right in the middle of the Session. Likewise, the distance between two Genesis Frogs is the distance between two Sessions, which is to say, undefined and unmeasurable given the Furthest Ring is between them.

As for where your Planet is within the Medium, it is inside of the Genesis Frog created by the Session that created your Universe. That is to say, within the created Universe. Consider it something like… This.

how do you prospit/derse-ify regular images?

I actually have a big tutorial in the works on this, but since it’s so heavily comprehensive, it may still be a good while until it's completed. I'll briefly go over the main bullet points:

Grab cathedral image off of Google Images, crop out the sky using the magic wand tool.

Decrease the brightness and contrast using the Levels adjustment tool. I like to apply a desaturation filter on top of this to better gauge how muted the colors should be, but this isn’t strictly necessary.

Colorize it a sort of deep purple or dark fudgy orange brown.

Increase the contrast with the Levels adjustment tool.

You can then just hue-shift it like 120 degrees once it’s completed to get the opposing kingdom.

since the issues in the beta kid's session were because of issues in the universe itself i take they probably would have manifested in every b1 session. imagine them trying to deal with that without any of the inside knowledge the trolls provided, yeesh. also, what kind of influence do you think the beta kid's Scratch would have had on the other b1 sessions, if any? do you think it would have wiped them out?

Actually, given Karkat identifies the Kids’ Rogue Jack as the manifestation of the Frog’s Cancer, it’s very likely every other Session would be completely untouched by this, which doesn’t mean Jack wouldn’t still totally be able to shank the Queen and go on a murder rampage. And while the Incipispheres are separate from the Universe, given they are still linked to Beta Earth by the copy of the game deriving from the Beta Frog Temple, it’s fair to assume the would’ve been wiped out as well. Hard Reset.

Okay but. A session that is a result of bunch of different sessions colliding which eventualy results in Chimera frog (with chimeras as biological phenomenon where two embryos merge at early stages of development)

Oooh, an interesting concept, and technically plausible since Sessions are kind of suspended in the Furthest Ring and I bet Paradox Space could pull something dumb like smashing a bunch of them together for funsies.
