Why are your thoughts on the phrase “inter-abled couple”?
I assume that's supposed to say "what" instead of "why", but let me know if I'm wrong.
Personally, I've always hated it. I get it, but every single human being has different abilities. Saying "interabled" just when it's a nondisabled person and a disabled person or a physically disabled person and an able-bodied person or whatever really bothers me (and seems extremely ableist). I hate labeling a relationship like that. It's also often said when it's not relevant and the word "couple" could just be used on it's own.
I respect when someone refers to their own relationship as interabled, but I don't respect when that label comes from outside the said relationship. Labeling someone else's relationship as such also feels kind of ableist to me.
I don't know a single disabled person who feels the same way.
