niceness is performative. kindness is not.

we’ve all heard of the “nice guy”. the guy who isn’t pushy and puts his lustful urges on the back burner because he want to make sure that you as a woman can enjoy hanging out with him, but we all know what they really are. guy’s who play “nice” because they expect something in return and they believe that if they act virtuous that their sense of entitlement is justified.

that is niceness in a nutshell. those who pride themselves in how nice they often aren’t happy with themselves, so they are seeking validation from others by pandering to their wants and needs. niceness and people pleasing go hand in hand. these type of people need others to see them in a good light because deep down, the lack self-esteem and self-worth.

meanwhile, kindness come from the heart. you know, like the term, kind-hearted. those who are kind have a tendency to be more of a bitch. this is because the good deeds that they do for others are no performative. when they want to do something nice for someone, they aren’t expecting anything in return. they are willing to fully invest themselves in another because it brings them joy. the act of kindness allows one to foster their own sense of joy, while niceness needs to feed off of another person in order to feel satisfied.
