finished!!!! dodie clark inspires me literally every single day. her attitude, her humour, her music, her talent, her spirit- all of it, all of her inspires me to keep my head up and do my best no matter what's going down or where I am. she's real and honest and she cares about people and things with sincerity, all while being able to laugh and have fun through the thick of things. i am so happy to do this portrait of her because she's wonderful and i am Really loving how this came out!!!!

if you've never heard of dodie before, check out her ig (tagged above) and her YouTube channel!! i would recommend listening to her songs "would you be so kind" and "in the middle" first because um they're My personal faves, but they're all great and so are her vlogs!!

took a little self dood I did last week and made it digital!! original size was done with a junky pen I found around at work and cut out to stick on my computer at my desk. original size is around 4 inches tall, and the digital version was done on a 11x17in canvas, though the last two images are resized for instagram, so they’re about 2/3 smaller.

total time spent on the original was about a minute or two, and the time table for the finished is a little harder since I made so many variants of it, but probably about an hour and a half total on lines and base colours. I also used this to experiment with my black placement, which you can see in the red lineart and one of the colours with all the solid blacks

Another assignment for my materials and techniques class!!! This assignment was about practicing inking over pencils, so my professor gave us a few options of professionally penciled pages, so uhh naturally I chose the Batfam page (Penciled by Greg Capullo) from BATMAN issue #15 (during the Death of the Family arc). We were allowed to create whatever we wanted for the script for the page, so I took inspiration from the one and only Riverdale (because how could I Not). In another assignment, we could colour the page we inked if we wanted to, so I did because I enjoyed working with it so much!

The entire inking and colouring process was done digitally in Paint Tool Sai. I don’t colour often, so I got a lot of advice from my professor as I worked so I could make it great! Overall, I really enjoyed these projects and this process. Inking traditionally is much much faster for me, but I can’t deny how satisfying it is to ink digitally where I can make it so clean and perfect (blows kiss)

Hello! Here’s another project from my Materials and Techniques class! The assignment was to make two spot illustrations within the horror genre, both traditional, one ink wash and one straight black and white using line and different techniques to indicate value or depth. 

I found this game at target called House of Danger that’s a “Create your own Adventure!” card game that “can be played with “1 or more players”. Basically, you play as an aspiring detective/ psychic investigator who’s been having crazy nightmares for a while, and one day you wake up with a clue to begin investigating what’s going on. My roommate and I began playing it and, of course, created our detectives (plural because we Definitely have played this multiple times) with names, personalities, backstories, and even each an animal sidekick! There are definitely events in the game that I thought could fit into the horror genre if I did illustrations of them, so that’s the direction I went with for this project!

For my ink wash, I used my dip pen and Speedball India ink on Bristol paper. It was very very experimental since I struggle with getting dark enough values and have never used ink wash before, but it was a lot of fun and I like the end product nonetheless. The second illustration is simply dip pen with Speedball India ink on Bristol paper, again just mostly experimenting and having fun with it.

Process and finished work for another project in my materials and techniques class! The assignment was to do finished pencils for two panels showing a character in action, and the follow up assignment was to ink them (or different pencils if we wanted to draw something different). One of the inks had to have dramatic lighting, so I present you here with Cakeboi digging into a snack and Int digging a (suspicious?) hole! Perhaps to bury that nice treasure chest he’s got over there!

This was a fun assignment, and challenging as well, since I rarely ever do pencils and I don’t have experience with doing dramatic lighting. Because of the latter statement, I did my dramatic lighting for Int digitally first, and then tried to recreate it on the original paper drawing doing ink washes with water and regular India ink, touching things up with a white ink pen. I don’t usually paint with ink like that, so these were really all very experimental (^’:

Both illustrations were sketched and drawn traditionally, and each of their base inks (just the regular outlines and hatching) were done traditionally as well with Micron pens.

hello! have an all-pencil illustration done by me, someone who tries to all together avoid full-value pencil drawings and illustrations!!!

for the first project of my materials and techniques class, we had to do a spot illustration of a superhero in a dry medium using the full value scale and in a place (i.e. must have a distinguished background). so I drew myself as a superhero (who I have Extensively built a backstory for, thank u very much) and threw in a city behind the figure!

This took about six hours total?? If I combine all the time I spent actually working on it between watching “Return of the Caped Crusaders” (oh my god) and a few Disney movies in between. i’m super proud of how it came out!!!

in this post i’ve included the original thumbnails, two sketches i chose between for the final design, and two different versions of around the same time while I was working on it.

took a student’s name from Max’s list of students most likely to live a double life (from Batman Beyond season 2, of course) and turned him into an oc! Meet Bal Valletta, sixteen year old eldest child of a big, italian-jersey, mafia family! By day, he goes to Hamilton High doing his best. By night, he’s learning ins and outs of the mafia life and running his own vigilante agenda as Nyx Montague (pictured right).

Cara Renner (@queen-tabris), who created a sister for Bal named Aria, and I built up the Valletta mafia family and some fun and interesting backgrounds and character details. For instance, the Valletta family is very old money and extensive in its mafia heritage, and their naming tactics in the pure Valletta bloodline have relation to Shakespeare plays, mainly Romeo and Juilet. For instance, Bal’s full name is Balthasar Joseph Valletta, and Aria is Aria Juliet Valletta. Their mother, from the direct bloodline, is Verona Valletta, their youngest brother is Paris Valentine Valletta and their grandfather is Escalus Valletta. 

As Montague (the first name Nyx never really catches on, much to Bal’s dismay), Bal picks up a friendship with Batman relatively quickly once the pair become acquainted with each other. As Bal Valletta, he and Terry McGinnis are school-friends and chat on a regular basis in their shared classes. Bal and Aria, whom he is extremely close to and would do anything for, enjoy sharing their mutual admiration and crush-like adoration for Terry.

basically, I loved the name at the bottom of Max’s list from “Hidden Agenda” and turned him into an oc and then wrapped up my pal Cara in it and I’m in love with everything, how’s your day going
