MASTERLIST
“oh. my. god. this baby is from hell!” Riki exclaimed “why doesn't he stop crying for god's sake?” he hissed.
you rushed outside of the bathroom to see what caused Riki to be this agitated. i mean, what could it be this time?
“hey, what's all this commotion about?” you asked him, a mango face mask on your face, slightly annoyed by all the noise while you were trying to have a peaceful skincare routine moment.
“this thing won't stop crying!” he threw hands in the air, clearly exasperated. Riki's brows furrowed together, his lips in light pout that reflected his annoyance.
“and... did you feed him?”
Riki's mouth formed an O before it closed. he scratched the back of his head as his head hung low. maybe he should've thought this one through.
“of course you didn't. i'll do it, don't worry.”
you went ahead and grabbed a bottle to feed the baby. you were used to it by this point. working with Riki was no easy feat, but it was strangely endearing so you didn't mind.
as handled the baby and fed him, Riki closely inspected you and your actions. you were so gentle with the baby despite it not even being real, he couldn't help but think how good of a parent you'd be in the future.
parenting with you was fun. he was happy to be doing the baby project with you. it got him to think about a lot of things, more importantly his growing loving feelings towards you.
it had already been a while since he knew about how much he liked you and how much he wanted to be your boyfriend, but never acted on it, scared to ruin a beautiful blossoming friendship.
but for a few months now, Riki started to seriously think about confessing his feelings to you.
now that you had to do the baby project together, he kept thinking about how nice it would be if you were parents together, if you were to grow your own family. he wasn't too sure about his skills, but he knew that you'd do an amazing job.
and all those sweet thoughts of his made him want to tell his feelings to you even more.
however, he wanted this project to end before confessing, he wasn't going to let a stupid fake baby, in his own words, ruin his awesome confession.
he was snapped back into reality by the sound of your voice calling him.
“earth to Riki?”
“hm?”
“well the baby is asleep now, do you want to go to the arcade now?” you asked, your face mask already off, a cheeky grin on your lips.
“sure! let me just get my stuff first.” he answered, his own smile growing.
finally, the baby project was over, much to Riki's happiness.
but as much as he was happy to be done with the baby project, he now had a confession to make, which he was enthusiastic about but still anxious.
he decided to tell you on the most cliché date at the amusement park. he knew how cliché it was, but it was one of your favourite places, and he wanted it to memorable. and what's better than that than huge amusement park, he thought.
he casually sent you a text message to invite you there, like he usually did, but this time, on his side he was throwing his feet in the air, smiling like an idiot at his phone.
throughout his way to the amusement park, he gave himself multiple pep talks to cheer himself up.
“you got this Riki!” he whispered to himself.
and now you were on the Ferris-wheel, admiring the scenery from up there.
everything he had prepared, he now forgot. he tried to speak but all that came out was blabbering.
“hey, you good?” you asked with a hearty chuckle.
“no. i mean yes! it's just that...” he sighed and closed his eyes, he didn't imagine it to be so hard.
“it's just that what?”
“it's just that i like you! i love you even,” he paused and looked at his feet, “it's been so long since i've felt this way and i'm tired of hiding it, so i'm saying it now.” he couldn't believe what he just said, he wanted to be buried alive, he closed his eyes, not wanting to see your reaction yet.
to say you were surprised was an understatement. you loved him too, and were delighted to hear that he felt the same.
“well um... i can confidently say that i love you too.”
Riki's eyes opened wide hearing you reciprocated his feelings.
“hold onー you do?” you nodded.
“so that means we're dating now?” he asked still not believing you.
“if you want to that it.”
after a few seconds of pure disbelief, he hugged you tight, not letting you breathe. he was too happy to care.
“RELAX. you're crushing my bones right now!” you squealed at him to stop.
“do i look like i care?i love you.”

[ start ]
You had awoken from your slumber and turned over in bed, groaning when you felt the cold mattress beside you. Hongjoong still hadn’t come to bed yet and it was – you lift your head to check the time – 2:45 am. You sigh deeply as you throw the comforter back and swing your legs over the mattress to step onto the cold floor.
You can see the blue light from his computer shining under the door, further confirming your thoughts that your boyfriend was still working in his studio. You opened the door and watched with a pout as Hongjoong bobbed his head a bit to the beat he had been working on since earlier that day.
You’re still groggy with sleep when you make your way towards him and wrap your arms around his chest from behind. Your presence causes him to move his headphones off his head and look up at you with soft eyes. “Hi baby. What are you doing up?” You can’t help the pout that falls on your lips as you look down at him. “It’s late, you should come to bed.” Hongjoong nods as his fingers go back to moving things around on the track. “I’ll be there in a minute. I need to finish this before I forget what I wanted to do.” You sigh as you hear your boyfriend’s words. That had meant he actually wasn’t going to bed any time soon and he’d only crawl into bed when the sun was finally coming up and it was time for you to get up.
Getting more and more sleepy by the minute but not wanting to leave, you decide to just crawl into Hongjoong’s lap and make yourself comfortable there. As you climb onto his lap you feel Hongjoong wrap a protective arm around your waist to make sure you don’t fall. After finally settling down with your head on his shoulder, Hongjoong gets back to work, listening to the demo before going back and changing things. He did this over and over again and it was starting to get on your nerves causing you to shift a bit in his lap.
You felt Hongjoong’s arm tighten around your waist. “Don’t do that.” You only huff, not even fully awake at this point, and nuzzle your face further into his neck. A couple minutes later you’re adjusting yourself again, and this time you’re very aware of the thick print of his half hard dick rubbing against your clothed core. “Baby, I said stop.” But he does nothing more to really stop you as you begin leaving little kisses on his neck as you trail your hands down his chest and stick them under the band of his sweatpants. “Baby, what did I just say?”
You could only let out whines. “Mm, it’ll be fast Joongie.” But Hongjoong doesn’t like quick sex. He loves to take his time and enjoy every moment with you. So he took off his headphones and sat back to let you pull his sweats down. Your pulse quickens at the sight and at the thought that he wasn’t wearing underwear, almost like he was waiting for you to some and stick your hands in his pants.
“Joongie.” You let out the prettiest whine as Hongjoong grabs your hips and guides your clothed core back and forth over his dick. You could feel the wetness growing and soaking through the panties you were wearing as Hongjoong grinds your hips down onto his own. Hongjoong was kissing down your neck and breathing in your scent, peach from your shampoo mixed with a little bit of sweat, admiring how you felt on top of him with only his shirt and a pair of panties on.
“So pretty baby.” He couldn't help but murmur the praise in your ear, voice gravelly with lust as he moved his hips a bit to rub against you more. You couldn’t take it anymore. You needed him now. So you reached down to hold Hongjoong’s cock and guide it towards the soaked patch of your panties. He groaned in your ear at the feeling of both your hand around his length and the arousal seeping through your panties. “And so needy. What’s got my baby so needy tonight?”
You’re not in control of your actions or what you say anymore. You’re really too far gone, dazed from just waking up and the way he’s making you feel. “Just miss you.” You pout a little more before leaning your forehead forward to meet Hongjoong’s. But Hongjoong loves the way you’re whining for him and how you look, so dazed and fucked out and he hasn’t even touched you. So he reached down and pulled your panties aside, far too lazy and way too impatient to actually remove them, and ran a light finger up your slit, feeling how wet you were just from grinding on him. You hummed at the feeling, pushing down to try to get more from him, but to no avail.
But you’re more than pleasantly surprised when Hongjoong lifts your hips and rubs his dick against you to slick himself up a bit. “I can tell.” His voice is almost teasing as he slips his tip in, holding your hips so you can’t completely sink down onto him. You whine and nudge his nose with yours. The feeling of him being in you but not completely was frustrating, leaving more to be desired. Especially since you knew just how well he filled you up. “Please Joongie. Need you.”
He reached up to peck your nose so softly. “Since you asked so nicely.” And he slowly pulls your hips down. He feels so nice and big stretching your warm walls. The pace is achingly slow as he controls your hips. A sigh leaves your lips as you take the last of him in. Hongjoong is still holding your hips down, teasingly rolling you against him. He can’t help it. Not when you look so pretty sitting on him, breaths shaky and eyes clenched close with the desire to bounce on him.
You lean forward to catch Hongjoong’s lips in a desperate kiss, whines vibrating in your throat as you went to lift your hips from his own. Much to your satisfaction, he guided your hips to bounce on his length. “Mm, Joong.” You let soft moans out at the feeling of Hongjoong reaching so deep and hitting you perfectly in your spot every time.
The feeling of Hongjoong’s hands moving up your waist and moving to trace up your spine left goosebumps all over your body, sensation growing with the feeling of his cool breath hitting your neck as he thrusted up into you every time he brought you back down onto him. Hongjoong groaned low into your neck as you clenched around him. He could feel that you were getting close to your high at the feeling of your thighs quivering and the way you leaned forward into him to dig your face into his shoulder.
“Joongie, s-so close.” He moved his head to suck pretty little bruises on your jaw and under your ear as he coaxed you into your orgasm. “Wait for me, pretty. I’m close too.” Hongjoong grunted as he pulled you down into his thrusts, sloppy the closer both of you got to finishing. You whined out as Hongjoong repeatedly hit your sensitive spot. “It’s okay baby. You can cum now.” As he pulled your hips down onto his one last time, you both finish. Hongjoong tightened his arms around your waist as he felt your hole clenching around him, forehead resting on your chest where he could hear your heart beating.
All that could be heard were both of your pants, breaths heavy from the orgasm you shared. You were both calming your breaths, feeling each other's heartbeats as sweat glistened on your bodies underneath the soft lights that glowed behind the monitors. “Let’s go to sleep, yeah?” Hongjoong’s soft breaths tickled your neck as he spoke. You hummed in response as you tightened your arms around his neck. “Please, I’m sleepy.” Hongjoong could only chuckle lovingly at the tone of your voice, already knowing you had the cutest pout on your lips.

something about san shoving you in a bathroom stall while you’re at the club. hiking your little mini dress up because he couldn’t stand you getting so fucking close to wooyoung and yunho.
“princess, seems like you don’t know who you belong to.” while he’s snaking his fingers around your throat and pulling your panties aside but oh !
no panties ? what a fuckin whore you turned out to be !
theres a glint in san’s eyes when he feels no panties. his hand getting tighter around your throat as he presses against you. his dick rubbing against your thigh.
“it’s like you were planning on fucking someone other than me tonight.”
your eyes teared up. “n-no, sannie. swear it was an accide-“
but poor you :( making stupid mistakes even now.
“an accident ? baby, im pretty sure i don’t accidentally forget to wear boxers on my way to work.”
you didn’t even have a chance to respond before he plunged two fingers inside you. they curled perfectly to rub against the spot inside you. your knees felt like jelly and if it weren’t for san holding onto you, you would’ve fell right to the floor.
your tongue long lolled out and eyes went cross. truly looking stupid for your sannie. his blonde hair was painted pink and purple under the club bathroom lights. sweat ran down his brow and glitter coated the lids of his eyes. he looked ethereal even when he was beyond pissed at you.
“so fucked out already ? just over my fingers.” he babbled on and on about how you were so stupid for him. you tuned everything out, just listening to best friends playing in the distance, his heavy breathing, and the embarrassing squelch between your legs.
his thumb rubbed your clit furiously as he bent down to mark you. red splotches blooming like spider lilies on your neck and shoulder. your eyes rolled back as your orgasm got closer.
“s-sannie.. ‘m so fuckin’ close, baby.” you moaned, squeezing his shoulders a little tighter. “are you, baby ? i can fuckin feel it.” he responded back.
your orgasm got closer and closer, beginning to feel like you were going to be hit by a wave of euphoria. your hips shook in his hold, eyes rolling back and nails digging further into his shoulders.
“san ! san, th- think ‘m gonna cum.” you cried out. his circles got faster, rubbing over your clit as he was determined to make you as fucked out as he wanted. you couldn’t shake ass for yunho and then act like an innocent baby in front of him.
“yeah, cum for me. cum all over daddy’s fingers.”
just as he asked, you came all over his fingers. you wet even the insides of your dress and the edges of his cuff. your eyes rolled back until all you saw was white, a high hitting you better than any weed you and san smoked together.
you left crescents on his shoulders, hips shaking uncontrollably as he continued to rub you through your orgasm.
“aw, you came so much.” he giggled. “slut.” he spat right after, putting his fingers inside your own mouth, making you taste your essence.
you licked it all up like a good girl, knowing he’d be mad if you didn’t. “what a cute doll.” he told you. san kissed your cheek, pulling you into him as you hung limp from the orgasm, unable to act out any longer.

note: i have returned... with a long cliché and cheesy fic, for the first time!!! this is an entry for @hiraya-m’s movie night! this fic is inspired by the movie, she’s dating the gangster, so expect a lot of parts similar to some scenes in the film! this has a ton of time skips (which i think are somehow essential for the fic lol), and this is my first time writing a long fic, so this could be fast-paced or something :’D bear with me in this fic pls i’m not sure if some of you all are fine with cliché content, i really tried to mirror the vibe of the movie at some point! i was thinking of posting this after the WHOLE fic is done but the 11k’s been sitting here for 6+ months (which is why the writing’s kinda shit plz), so here you go!
Lately, everything felt so unreal. And what did you do for the whole day? Pretend that the relationship you got yourself was nothing.
It’s working.
You feel the quick rush of the wind on your face. “Were you not kidding when you texted me? Why didn’t you tell me about this sooner?” Dahyun ran to you to bombard you with questions about a piece of particular news you just shared with her. You let the word spread before telling your friends about it after they heard such an unexpected update about you.
“Keep it quiet. I’ll tell you all about it if you keep your voice down,” you quickly covered the mouth of the girl in front of you. After that rough move, you dragged her to the seat beside you and fixed her messy hair.
“There you go,” you tried to smile. Dahyun looks… not that bad. “Alright, I’m not! We’re just doing this for his ex. And it’s been just a few days, Dahyun! I don’t want everybody to know right away.”
Dahyun snorted, moving her head away from you. Her assumptions were correct. There was no way that you’d date Lee Minho. You’re “out of his league”, and you two are secretly enemies.
Not only does he tease you every second, but almost every class is also a competition. You’ll never forget how he was petty over the fact that he got a perfect score in the machine project first just because he scheduled his demo earlier than you. You could’ve rejoiced since the two of you were the only ones who got a perfect score in your class, but no. Minho decided to use his bragging rights because of that demo appointment unnecessarily. You were too nervous to demo right after the deadline; that was it!
When you stepped into the computer lab earlier this morning, you immediately heard your classmates close to Minho talking about your relationship. They’re right, though. Who would date a new person just a few days after he and his ex broke up? You’re right. It’s Minho—he gave out that kind of vibe.
Sighing and shaking your head, you cross your arms. “You need time to process and laugh over that, Kim? He’s an annoying ass. Who would fall for him?” You know that anybody would. That dude’s not only smart but also attractive: a consistent dean’s lister, a volleyball varsity player, and a nice guy. You’re the only person he’s not friendly to.
“Anybody would. Minho is a pretty cool guy,” someone joined in your conversation. That was the only answer, as expected.
Chaeyoung gets a chair from your other side and places it in front of you and Dahyun. “I heard it, by the way, _____. Dahyun told me. Minho choosing you just to get his ex back totally makes sense. You hate him, and he hates you. Hell, even his ex hates you! That woman would take him back in a flash if she sees you with him.”
You recall the last encounter you had before confirming the relationship. You snort, “The funny thing is that that was not how he approached me and told me his problem.”
“Both of you avoid each other like the plague. Yeah, Minho would never ask you to fake date him all of a sudden—” Dahyun cut her off by hitting her arm. Chaeyoung groans, holding her arm tight. “Just tell us!”
I’m really sorry.
Is this the person who accidentally bumped you yesterday? You had to go home with a coffee stain on your white shirt. It might be him because you have no idea who he was, and you’re sure you don’t have his number.
I still love you.
“You just received a message, right? Why is that person flooding you right when you’re in class?” Yeji moves her seat closer to you, peeking at the phone in your hands. “You gotta hurry, though. You know our professor wants some peace in group activities.”
I miss you so much.
Who even is this?
In case you lost my number, it’s 09*********.
“_____, do you mind turning your phone off, even just for an hour?”
I know that you’re really happy with him, but I want to see you.
Shit, your professor’s glaring at you. Yeji takes your phone and does the work. “Just power off!”
Unconsciously scratching your head, you apologize, “I’m so sorry, Ma’am. That was a lot of spam messages.”
“Learn how to mute your phone next time.” You nodded right away and said yes. Oh, you’re so done. You’re the teacher’s pet in this class; you might’ve lost it because of these messages.
What’s weird is that it goes on even the next few days after. You still receive messages. While in the canteen, you lightly monitor the phone in front of you as you work on assignments. The truth is, you’re looking after every message and call made by this person. Even if you muted this number, you wonder if they will stop soon.
“I don’t understand that. What the hell is that?”
“That’s called math, you dumbass!”
“Sorry! I’m not in a computer-related degree like _____!”
“So am I, Chaeyoung!”
Grunting, you go back to flipping the notes in your notebook. You are already not in the mood to look at the messages and calls from your phone right now. The deadline for this assignment is less than an hour, and you’re unfortunately procrastinating.
The phone rings loudly, mixing with the noise made by your surroundings. The stoves from every stall sizzle very loud, the laughs students can’t hold in, and utensils and plates are clacking here and there. It was too overwhelming until you just wanted to get out of here. But you have got to eat, you still have two more classes later, and you’ll have no time to eat.
As your phone's ringing ends, it returns just a minute later. This cycle has repeatedly happened for the past twenty minutes, and you don’t give a damn about it now.
You quickly look at the surrounding people. The table at the center of the room was Minho and his friends. Felix and Chan are members of the volleyball varsity. From what you know, they’re the only close friends Minho has in computer science. His other friends, like Seungmin, Changbin, and Jisung, are taking different degrees, and you are coincidentally friends with them too. That’s all because of Yeji.
Minho, Chan, and Felix are the popular ones. Being a varsity team member equals a big following from the student population. The yearly championships are like a tradition; everybody attends that every year. So, as expected, they’ll sincerely support their alma mater’s team.
You admit that they’re very skilled players. Minho’s the best at serving, Felix can receive the ball right away with his speed, and Chan can block so well because of how high he can jump. In conclusion, the team’s weak without them.
You felt a hand on your shoulder and looked at your side immediately. “Are you aware that you’ve been staring at Minho and his friends? And Minho’s looking back at you? With a phone in his hand?”
Widening your eyes, you pretend to be working on your assignment again. Hopefully, none of them will bother you. More like you hope Minho will not bother you. Chan and Felix are not menacing, like Minho.
You’re getting out of here. You ate your meal anyway, and all you have left is your assignment. Just go to the library as if nothing happened, and you can avoid Lee Minho for the rest of the day.
Packing up your things, you tell your friends that you’re leaving. “What? _____, don’t leave us here!”
“Dahyun, I feel embarrassed. I don’t want him to come here and make fun of me. He’s going to be egoistic all over again. I’ll just go to the library so nobody can ruin my day.”
As you quickly get out of the canteen and walk down the hallways, you feel a pull on your arm. “What are you doing—”
“Are you seriously playing with me right now?
Minho gets to scroll down your call history and all the messages he sent. Breathing loudly through his nose and clenching his teeth, he asks you another question, cornering you between the lockers and the wall. “Are you playing with me right now so I could look stupid?”
Unable to form a coherent answer, you try to speak whatever you can say, which is nothing. “Uh, well, you know, I really—”
His soft lips cut you off, leaving you widening your eyes for the nth time today.
“He kissed you?”
“Don’t tell me that’s real.”
You thrash around in your seat. “Let me continue!”
Still confused over the sudden turn of events, all you did was move your arms around in your place. Unfortunately, you can’t even take a step or stand tall because Minho still caged you in his arms.
His head moves to ask you near your ear, “Where is she?”
You don’t answer his question and push him off. The more you pushed him, the more he kept you in his arms. You do not know how weird this feels. He does not have any idea what personal space is. You try to complain louder; all he does is cover your mouth. You want to scream at his face, but you end up sounding muffled to him.
“Answer me, _____. And I’ll let you go,” he slowly moves his hand from your mouth.
“Do you mind telling me who’s that she first?”
Rolling his eyes, he finally steps away from you just a little. “My ex, Ara, of course. Who else would I mention?”
“I don’t know, a classmate or something? But yeah, Ara passed by earlier. She’s gone now.”
Heaven finally hearing your prayers, Minho lets go of you and steps away. You clear your throat. “Thank you. It was suffocating there in the corner.”
You thought he was going to leave you there already. You thought you could go to the library in peace after encountering the worst situation in mind. The worst of the worst came to you at this moment.
“From now on, we’re in a relationship—”
You step forward and raise your hand. “Who says we can be in a relationship?”
Minho tilts his head and smiles. “Why don’t you let me finish first before you react? We will do this to make Ara jealous and get her back. We’ll just pretend.”
This teasing asshole strikes again. You shake your head. “Why me? You could’ve picked someone better.”
“Oh, don’t worry. You’re the perfect fit. Remember this?” He shows you your phone in his hands. “You played me. Getting into this fake relationship is your way of paying me back.”
Minho hands you back your phone in your hands. Before leaving, he greets you with his classic smirk, making your blood boil. “See you around, love!”
“Chaeyoung, please tell me that _____ is hallucinating.”
Groaning, you shook her shoulders. “It’s real, Dahyun! He even introduced himself to my family earlier this morning already.”
Chaeyoung snickers. “This whole fake relationship sounds like torture.”
Your relationship barely started, and it’s not what you wanted. Even if some part of you liked this so you could see annoying Ara’s face, you know there will be regrets in involving yourself. Not only were students gossiping about you, but Minho’s friends also started teasing you. Felix is a sweetheart, but he had the guts to bug you about your relationship in your last class. Before you left the canteen alone, you found Jisung and Changbin asking you how your fling with Minho was, and you just pushed them away. You wanted none of this.
You take a bite of your sandwich. “Yeah, it is. I hope I get to see Ara pissed off at me so she can take Minho back, and I’ll be over with this deal.”
“Praying that Minho doesn’t treat you like shit, as usual. Maybe a teeny-tiny nicer than he normally is with you,” Dahyun steals the sandwich in your hands and takes a bite. “He is your boyfriend, after all. He must treat you well.”
“You have a distorted view of a couple. This relationship is not a one-sided thing. I, unfortunately, have to be friendly with Minho too, which is irritating.” You get your sandwich back, take a bite, and return it to Dahyun. “It’s all yours.”
You’ll have your next class in less than 30 minutes. Coming to class last minute is stressful sometimes, considering that you’ll do not know how long you can arrive at your classroom. There will be a crowd of students in the halls, especially when classes start again, like what will happen later.
“I’ll go now. The building’s two blocks from here,” you grab your bag and recheck your two friends. “I’ll be fine with him, don’t worry! Don’t give me those sad faces!” You pat both of their heads and push back your chair to the table. “I’ll be fine. I’m used to that.”
Walking past many people in the hallways, you felt more space around you as… Minho’s friends surrounded you? Your first few days with him were not like this.
“What are you guys doing here? Aren’t some of you supposed to be in the other building?” You looked around, seeing all of them walking near you.
Chan was the first to speak. “Honestly, we have no place to speak about this, _____.”
The one and only Lee Minho greeted you, who walked quickly to your side. “From now on, you’re not going to class alone.”
Not sure if he was joking, but you spoke your mind. “I can do this on my own, and I don’t need you guys joining me here.”
Before you argue more about it, Minho hands you a t-shirt. “Wear this.”
You look at your outfit for the day. “Does this shirt look that bad to you?”
Minho doesn’t answer your question, so you bombard him with more questions to get him on his nerves and say something. “Don’t I look nice? Isn’t this decent enough for me to stand beside you? Does this not fit your standards?”
Minho presses his lips and asks. “Do you want me to put that shirt on you?”
His friends around you stopped and let out some oohs. You sighed. You knew this was a bad idea.
“Change,” Minho moves his head toward the comfort room, “I’ll be waiting.”
You came out with a t-shirt with a large heart in the center. It has additional details like stitches, making the heart look like it was sewn. This shirt, in particular, is not your style, but this would suffice. “Do I look better now?”
Minho takes off his sweater and reveals a matching shirt. Oh, so that’s what he’s aiming for today. Couple t-shirts, cute, I guess? Impressed enough, you smiled at him. He smiles and gives you his hand, silently asking you to hold it with yours.
Walking around, hands tied still, with his friends, you saw Ara and her friend walking towards you. Now, this made more sense. The couple t-shirts were your first stunt to make Ara jealous.
“Didn’t work, Minho. It looks like Ara’s not affected by it,” you hear Seungmin behind you.
“That’s fine. It’s still the first,” Minho stops, leaving the rest of the group to stop. “I’ll leave it here. I’ll take them somewhere. You guys can do your own thing now.”
“Good luck, bro,” Jisung says, offering Minho a fistbump. He looks at you and whispers, “You can do it. He’s tolerable enough without us too.”
“I heard that!” Minho attempts to pinch Jisung. Hearing a loud screech from Jisung, you step away from the small scene. Jisung was pulled by Changbin, dragging him away from both of you.
Once Jisung is out of the picture, Minho faces you. He doesn’t have any idea where to take you since he only thought of the couple t-shirts to show it off to his ex. A part of him feels bad about dragging you into this short stunt.
“I know where to take you.”
In the sports building, obviously. You both bought some taho on the way, though. More like, Minho paid for both of your taho, which was surprising.
“You know how to play table tennis?” He asks as he drags you to a room.
“Nope, I hope you wouldn’t judge,” you tell him, trying to grip the paddle properly.
Minho was going to comment about it, but he stopped himself right away and understood you. “All good. That’s fine with me. I can teach you.”
It felt like your eyes were sparkling out of wonder. You immediately look at Minho and ask, “Really? You’re willing to?”
He genuinely smiles at you and answers, “Yeah, I’m willing. No worries, I think you’ll get the hang of this right away.”
“Which is easier, table tennis or volleyball?” You hand him the paddle in your hand. “You’re pretty good with anything at this point.”
Minho felt his body tense on the spot. That was the first time you said something nice to him. He’s used to bickering with you. Were you serious about this too? It seemed like you were being nice to him for real this time.
He knows you’re a good person. This whole enemy and competitor thing happened between you, resulting in you excluding him from your people-to-be-nice-with list. He has seen you with other people, and you’re usually like how you behaved just a while ago.
He’s glad enough that you could let your guard down around him for once. Maybe he’ll treasure this even if it was too early. He knows you’ll be back to arguing soon.
“Uh, it depends, really. I’m more used to volleyball, though. I just play table tennis for fun since I hang around here in the sports building quite a lot,” he awkwardly gets the paddle from your hand. With a scratch on his head, he reminds himself of his manners. “Thanks, though. I’m not an expert at everything. I just like trying out new things.”
“We must be the same, then!” You hold the ball, playing it with your hand. “You know, I grew up people saying I’m smart at everything,” you look at him.
Minho agrees. He notices that you’re brilliant about a lot of things. You’re a dean’s lister like him. Sometimes, he thinks you’re one of the best out there. He just doesn’t confess about that. “You in computer science say a lot about that. You’re intelligent.”
You laugh, memories flooding back in your head when you hear Minho mention your degree. “Did you know how stupid I felt when I failed my first programming course? Maybe I blame my professor for that. But when I discovered I got a failing grade, I asked myself for days if computer science was for me.”
Snorting, you shake your head. “As expected, I had to take it the next semester, and there we go! I did very well! I passed, and I enjoyed programming. And yeah, I got the same score as you on our machine project in discrete mathematics.” You hand him the ball. You felt a little better that you brought that out now. Your friends never understood how hard it was for you since they’re not in the same degree as you.
“I realized I’ll do great if I have to work my ass off twice as much as I usually do. It sucks, but it’s fulfilling to know that I’m doing fine.” You look at Minho. “I’m still surprised that I’m still a part of the dean’s list. The last time I heard, I almost slipped off the list.”
“I’m not good at consoling, _____, but I know you’re doing great, whether you fail, pass, or get on the list.” You hear Minho mutter your name, “I know it was hard for you. You said all of it. But I hope you don’t use it to bring yourself down.”
Minho gently places the paddle on the table and gets the ball from your palm. He faces you, leaning on his side on the table. “You’re outstanding. Don’t think that you’re not that good compared to me. I also went through a lot to get into that volleyball team. All of us really have to deal with rough shit before getting up there.”
You chuckle. “You’re right, sorry. I made it sound like it’s all about me—”
“No worries, I totally get you anyway,” he pats your back and smirks. “I know it feels nice to dump your problems sometimes.”
Gasping, you lightly push him. You get to hear his laugh. “I did not intend to dump all of it, Lee! I said I’m sorry already!”
You see Minho change his behavior, returning to his usual, insufferable self. He blinks multiple times, fixes his shirt, gets the paddle again, and playfully waves it on your face. “Shall we?”
You nod. Minho nods back and walks to your back. He gets your hand from behind and helps you grip the paddle properly. “You can hold the paddle like that. Don’t hold it like you’re going to murder somebody.”
“Does it look like I can murder you with this paddle, Minho?” You look at him, raising your eyebrows.
He grips your hand tightly, making you groan. “Yes, I know you can, which is why I’m teaching you the right way how to hold it.”
Minho’s aware of the presence of Ara in the room. It was why his demeanor changed right away. “She’s there again, by the way. Let’s look decent for a bit.”
“Yes, sir, on it.” You look at your hand with the paddle. It feels weird because it’s your first time playing this sport. Minho lets go of you confusingly and walks away.
Minho returns to your side with the other paddle and a ball. As Minho explains how to serve the ball, you focus on Ara. You hope that she’ll see this whole thing.
“Are you even listening?”
You look back at him, his face filled with annoyance, “Yes—well, no. Ara saw us!” You see Ara and her friends leaving suddenly, “And now, she’s gone. Why is she leaving right away every time we're together?”
He sighs. “She might’ve seen how dramatic you are every time you’re with me. It’s great.”
Before you get to defend yourself, you see Minho leaving you as well. “Dang, Minho’s right. It must be a me problem.” You get your things and chase Minho. “Don’t leave me, Lee! What the hell? You brought me here, and you’re just going to get out of here on your own?”
You tried to find Minho, but he’s really gone. Slowly walking through the tiny sidewalk, you attempt to see if Minho’s still nearby. And as expected, he’s nowhere to be seen.
Mindlessly walking, you plug in your earphones and listen to music on your way home. The music was a great way to make your life less boring. Your life has been full of adventures; the music made it more entertaining. Who knew getting a fake boyfriend was a part of your story, anyway? It could’ve been more. You get to enjoy your non-curricular activities, like being in organizations. Unfortunately, you temporarily abandoned your book club for this relationship. You could’ve recommended books to first-year students! You could’ve exchanged books with your friends and read them overnight!
You move the papers and folders under your arm to check the time on your phone, 7:05 PM. Great, you’ll have less time to review for your exams later. You could’ve gotten a tricycle ride to get home quicker, but the terminal’s a few minutes from where you are. Groaning, you carelessly walk and grumble over your cravings for pancit canton—the chilimansi one, to be specific.
The louder you talked to yourself about how desperate you were to get home and get things done, the more people behind you knew what to do.
You shrieked at the sudden noise coming from your back. Everything was so fast; you didn’t know a bunch of those mean and nasty students honked their car and almost ran it over you intentionally, dropping all of your things out of shock.
Several kids shouted from the car, “Sorry!” And all of them laughed. If only they were out of the vehicle, you could’ve charged them and punched all of their faces. That would be no regret, even if you were never the type to fight people. They deserve it for being assholes.
Bending down, you try to chase for the papers, lightly flying above the road. They almost crashed a human being and drove recklessly. Why are there no police officers here?
“Didn’t those people skip GMRC or homeroom classes when they were young?”
You have no idea who that was, but you agree. That must be a stranger passing by, not caring about what happened to you. “Yeah, they probably skipped. Not surprised, though. There’ll always be people like them.”
You heard some sounds nearby while picking up all of your notes. Unexpectedly, you see a person getting your papers on the sidewalk across from you. Was this guy the one who just talked to you?
“You’re right. But that doesn’t mean you’ll let them roam around like that. Here you go.” The person hands you the rest of the papers you couldn’t catch earlier. After thanking him. He introduces himself to you, “I’m Hyunjin.”
You have never heard his name yet. You’re acquainted with many students because of connections, but you probably haven’t met this one. It’s not wrong to meet a new person. Meeting a new friend after an unexpected accident like this was funny enough to think that you must be friends with Hyunjin. “Hey, Hyunjin. I’m _____. Nice to meet you in this way,” you chuckled.
He’s a transferee, perhaps?
He grins, “Oh, no worries. I have nothing to do, and I’m also on my way home, anyway. Is your place nearby?”
When Hyunjin saw your mouth fall open and rock your feet in place, he knew you still had a long way to go. “Want to grab some dinner first? Let’s eat pares, my treat.”
None of you know that those students who sped past you were watching nearby. Unfortunately, they have a plan against you.
Are you really up for volleyball class this early? No.
This sport shouldn’t sound complicated since you’ve played this before in high school. Frankly, you’re not the worst player out there. You could be very useful for an actual volleyball team, according to several varsity team members who were your classmates.
Have you told your boyfriend who excels in this specific sport? No.
You’re nothing compared to him in volleyball, you just know. If you mention this to him, he might ask you to play with him on the spot, and you know it’ll end up in the loser treating the winner. That’s how he competes with his teammates in training, according to Felix. You don’t want to go home physically exhausted and suffering financially.
Well, you’re a little rusty in volleyball since it has been years since you properly played this. So, you might need extra warm-ups and practices for this friend.
Setting the ball for a few rounds now, you wouldn’t say you’re that bad for starters. You’re underestimating yourself. This progress is pretty good for someone who’s a newbie or needs a refresher. Okay, maybe, you can brag about this to Minho a little bit.
It was fun and all, until someone threw the ball in a different direction—directly on your head. Why is existing more challenging now when you got Minho with you? Peace is non-existent in your fate.
“How ambitious of you!”
Automatically falling into a face of confusion, your search for the voice leads to a familiar face—that girl in the car a few nights ago.
Let’s be honest. Self-defense is your biggest weakness. You never taught yourself to fight for yourself in situations as immediately intense as this, since you always want no harm. If this was a verbal argument, maybe you still had the guts to fight back. But this involves physical damage.
Before you get to fend for yourself, the girl and the rest of the group throw all the volleyballs at you, leaving you a pained mess on the floor. This is you against a group. You immediately knew you’d lose in this battle. Not only were you thrown with actual objects, but they also threw unnecessary words at you.
“You’re such a gold digger!”
“You’re from nowhere! How did you get them?”
“Two-timer, are we getting a little flirty?”
When you knew this was about Minho and Hyunjin (who should be innocent in this case), you had to get out of here. You’re assuming their next move will harass you with their own hands based on how they move. Groaning, you get up and grab your bags from the bleachers.
One of them shouts, “Where do you think you’re going?”
You look behind and see the girl chase you until you leave the building. She stops before heading back inside. “Wake up, _____! You and Minho are not compatible!”
Same place, same people. The same road where nothing was by your side. The same street where you were so helpless. All you wanted was the life you had a week ago. How did you get into this torturous cycle of people getting jealous of bagging one of the biggest stars of the university?
That was pure evil. Why are they this mean towards you? Maybe all you want is to go back to your dorm, sulk and cry with some ice cream. Hopefully, the world will be better one tear at a time.
Another honking sound surprised you, reminding you of last night's turn of events. Irritated by the sound, you asked nobody and continued walking, “Why do drivers like to surprise people with that?”
The car behind you stops. “And that’s because I’m here to really surprise you with—wait, _____, are you crying?”
Minho gets out of the car and chases you to greet you with a hug. “What happened?”
Melting into his embrace, you hummed on his chest, sobbing more than before. This is officially your first time breaking down in front of him, and it’s all because of him. “Nothing really. Can you just take me to my dorm and—”
Minho smoothly rubs your back, “Don’t hide it from me. I know this is all pretend, but don’t be afraid to share it with me if you like. I’m all ears, _____.”
That might’ve made you cry even more. Why is he so nice again? You know he’ll switch back to his usual self later on. Are you falling for this trap? Are you sure he is genuinely willing to listen to your rant about jealous students? Will that be a sensible conversation with him?
“It will sound so petty, Minho. This is nothing I’m telling you—”
He gently holds your head, ensuring you keep eye contact with him. “_____, let’s be serious here. Is it petty if you’re a crying mess like this?”
Shaking your head, you mumble no multiple times, bringing you back to tears. Minho brings you back to his arms, crossing them around you in the right fit, not too tight and not too loose. His scent was so comforting—lavender and baby powder. He smelled so pure and clean. “Do you still want to return to your dorm?” He asked you softly, hearing a small yes as an answer.
What are you doing to him? Barely two weeks into this fake relationship, and he’s willing enough to soften his heart already. He will stick with you, making sure that you did the stunts, and you got to treat each other as actual significant others. But wasn’t he like this with Ara, too? Didn’t he open up to her right away? Maybe he’ll just see what’s going to happen next. Give you both a few more weeks before facing the growing tingling feeling on his chest. You’re not that bad after all; indeed, you’re better than you seem. He’s up with making you his actual friend. He’s aware that he’s guarding his heart sometimes, knowing he grows attachments immediately. Maybe after a few more stunts, he’ll get Ara back and get to know you more.
Minho reaches for your hand on the side, pulling you to the car. “I should’ve stayed by your side on our last visit to the sports building. I’m really sorry.”
He didn’t break his promise of staying by your side until that night. Maybe it was because of the feeling that he couldn’t do the stunt with you properly, or he wasn’t in the right mind. When he left you in the sports building, he thought you were behind him all this time until when he got into his car. He even tried to find you in the building, going through the floor by floor, until you messaged you were back in your dorm already, stomach full. Out of pure concern, he was relieved that you were safe. He knows that both his and your parents will kill him if he loses you.
And now, he arrived slightly late. He could’ve prevented the still-unknown problem that left you gripping his shirt tightly and sobbing heavily on his shoulder. Better late than never, he thought. He knows how to deal with this. He lost Ara somewhere when they were together. Ara’s phone was dead, and Minho searched for her from night until the day. In the end, he got scolded by Ara’s father in front of their house. He doesn’t want that to happen to anybody again, and he hated he left someone—you—after that.
“It’s fine, Minho. You don’t have to apologize. I should have protected myself,” you told him, getting into the passenger seat of his car and buckling your seatbelt.
After Minho got into the car again and started the engine, he curiously asked, “What happened there? Who are they to make you cry a river like that?”
“Why did you cry?” Minho glances at you, steering the car. “I just want to know so I can help you somehow. I don’t want to see your puffy face cry that much.”
Sighing, you lean back in your seat. Do you really have to tell Minho now? You’d rather keep this one. You don’t want him teasing you all over again. “You have to ask me right now?”
“Yeah, well, if it’s fine with you,” he eyes the car's rear mirror, “because if you’re not ready to tell me, I can wait.”
You thank the heavens that he has patience within him. Maybe you can do it once you’re back in your dorm? Saying it here and now might be a little overwhelming, for you are still recovering from whatever happened earlier. If you recall all of it, you might burst into tears just to explain it to Minho for the nth time.
When you arrive at your building, you bring Minho to your dorm room when you come to your building. No one’s in your place. Yeji probably hung out with some of her friends today. “Home, sweet home, I guess?”
On the left, a kitchen countertop matches the color of the walls, white. The bathroom’s already on the right, with a door open, displaying the simple sink and mirror. And further back to the dorm are your beds and study spaces. The room isn’t that cramped for everything you need, luckily. Your beds were on one side, and your tables and shelves were across them.
The first thing you did after closing the door was drop your lumpiang togue on your table. Minho was compassionate enough once again to treat you to some food.
He scans the whole market for anything you can eat quickly. Glancing at you, he asks, “You like lumpiang togue?”
Did he just read your mind? How did he know your love for lumpiang togue?
“Yeah, I like them,” you softly answer, fiddling the sleeves of your white t-shirt, which you wore earlier this morning for volleyball class. You haven’t changed your attire, also still wearing your rubber shoes and navy jogging pants.
Minho sighs. “Great, that’s what I can afford for now. I left the rest of my money in my place.” He finds some bills in his pockets. He was planning to take you to his dorm since Seungmin visited his family. But the whole you-crying-on-the-streets happened, so he had a change of plan, making you feel better. Seriously, it’s not his strength, but he’s willing to try.
You hold his wrist, stopping him from reaching for any money, “I can pay. I have some money with me.” Minho stiffens, and you try to get your wallet from your backpack, mumbling, “You probably brought anything barely to buy here. I’ll just take it from here.”
He was persistent in treating you today. He had to do it. He wanted to do it. Shaking his head, he’s now the one who’ll reach for your wrist. “No, _____. I’ll pay. You can keep your money.”
Looking at his face, you feel hesitant to let this slide. You think it’s because of the lack of money in his pockets, and he’s really trying hard to be the perfect (fake) boyfriend he is. But the problem is that you only hear some clinking sound from his pockets, implying that he probably has mostly coins. And he might just fight you back if you don’t surrender. Maybe he’s really striving to treat you again.
You clear your throat. “Yeah, sure, go on. If you really want to, then. I’ll just do it the next time we eat outside.”
Perhaps Minho only heard the last few words. I’ll just do it the next time we eat outside. Are you implying that you guys will go out again for food? With this setup you have, Minho was not sure if there’ll be a next time for everything. It’s unclear to assume how long you will continue this. Even if it has been a week, Ara could take him back tomorrow or the other day.
This could be the last time you can eat together. Why did he feel a little heartbroken over this thought? Is it because he got to see more of your softer side? Is it because of this little friendship you were progressively growing that is still as small as a seed? Maybe he wasn’t ready to go back to the usual bickering both of you do. He genuinely enjoyed your fun and calmer side. In the first few days, you got to go around the campus hand in hand. It was initially awkward. Both of your hands were sweating. But he enjoyed your presence, regardless. You got to treat each other decently in classes, picking each other immediately as partners in some projects. Why is he overthinking about you too many times now? He’ll miss this. It’s been a week, and he might’ve not regretted picking you. It could’ve been worse if he had got someone senselessly crazy over him.
On your side, though, you’re taking this whole fake relationship lightly. Yes, you got to see an angelic Minho with a halo on his head rather than those red horns. You’ve seen his side of being intelligent and humble. From your time together working on some papers, you’ve seen how hardworking he is. Well, he is hardworking, but his tremendous pride overshadows it. Working with him wasn’t so bad. If you ever get to pick a partner after this fake relationship, you might genuinely pick him over some of your friends. You appreciated his taste on the first few dates you had. He wasn’t the fancy type, even if he looked like a person who thought highly of himself. Your time in the park wasn’t so bad. You enjoyed the messy conversation with some ice cream. You also enjoyed your time in the mall. He was the type to window shop than splurge. You were going to tease him about being broke, but he was letting his guard down for a few minutes, so you appreciated the small moment of peace between the two of you.
Nodding, he steps forward to buy on the stall in front of you.
Leaning your back on the table beside him, you ask, “Have anything to say about my place?” Deep inside, you know he will lightly tease you about your dorm. It’s been looking too dull, considering the only prominent color: white. You could visit some of your friend’s places, and their homes and rooms were full of color. You got to see Dahyun’s place, and her room’s walls painted a beautiful shade of sky blue. Chaeyoung’s dorm has an incredible combination of brown and black, giving her space a vintage vibe that suits her style. Some of your other classmates’ rooms had rooms in bright colors like pink, violet, or dandelion, which you admit are very pleasing colors. “Does it look too boring? I was trying to convince Yeji to change this whole place again. White’s not clicking with me anymore.”
Minho looked around once again. He displays an unreadable expression, which makes you feel uncertain. “I guess it is boring. I knew it.” Minho waves his hands. “No! I actually like it. It feels very peaceful,” he sighs. “I think it shows a lot about who you are.”
“So you’re telling me I’m boring?”
Groaning, he explains to you once again. “It’s a nice color for a dorm. It’s not boring. You’re very pure and sincere, like the color white. Even if we spat the most unnecessary words at each other, you’re pretty honest and genuine in what you say. I don’t mean this badly, but you’re sensitive. Sensitive in a way that you easily pull yourself into emotions, you feel quite a lot, from what I noticed. You’re not that numb, and I like it. White’s not that blank in my own eyes.”
That was… wonderful. Minho got a point once again. He’s not like you, who quickly rambles a lot. He makes sure he says everything with his actual intentions straightforwardly. You liked how he mentioned your bickering; it made you laugh for the first time in a while. It was nice to hear that from Minho for another time. “Thanks, maybe the color’s not so bad after all. I appreciate the words.”
“You’re getting shy, aren’t you?” You pulled out your handkerchief from your pocket and tossed it to his face. “Shut up! I don’t get those kinds of words a lot. Being sensitive is a bad thing for some, but I appreciate how you made it sound nice—something in your voice that told me in my head that it’s alright to feel things with so much impact,” you grin, “so, don’t be surprised that I’ll cry over something again in the next few days. We still have the articulation paper! We should get it done! I’ll cry for real if we procrastinate it!”
Minho laughs. “Want to start it tomorrow? After my training in the morning?” It took you a few seconds to answer him because… he laughed! That was a very genuine laugh, and it sounded so lovely. It suits him so much. If only you heard that every day, that’d be better than the fuss both of you make every time. When he scratches his head nervously, you answer, “I’m not that busy for the next few days, so I’m up for that! Maybe I can take you out for coffee if you’re into that?”
You have no idea how Minho loved the word coffee. He drinks coffee every day, almost like his water, so he might’ve been the happiest person ever when he heard that you’d treat his coffee. “I am in love with coffee, so you don’t have to ask, _____,” he smiles. “Great, now that we’ll have coffee tomorrow, I’m sure we’ll finish our paper just fine. Trust me.”
The next few days with Minho were relaxing, much to your surprise. You joined each other’s agendas, including Minho’s training sessions for the incoming volleyball championships. You opened up to him about what happened to you in the sports building, resulting in him getting outrageous on the spur of the moment.
Minho tries to ask calmly after taking a sip of his beloved coffee, “Why didn’t you tell me about this sooner?” He knew you wanted to recover from what happened emotionally, but he didn’t think you had to recover from that, right?
“I wanted to forget about it for a while, Minho. I didn’t want to spend the rest of my time feeling miserable because of your fans crossing the line,” you answer, taking a bite of Minho’s cheesecake.
Before getting another bite, Minho reaches for your hand, removing the fork. He points the utensil at you, “_____, you just said they crossed the line. Don’t you think you should’ve told me right away still, and we could’ve done something about it?”
“I’m too nice to report it to the office, Minho,” your other hand reaches for his. “I know it’s a problem, but I’m seriously going to let this go. I know I cried over it, but this is not the worst thing I cried over. Maybe knocking some sense to themselves will make them more realistic that you’re not going to pick them.”
Snorting, he laughs and leans back in his seat. “Did you think I’m going to pick them over you?” He was misinterpreting it! You didn’t mean it that way. “Hey! You wouldn’t pick them in general because of how they acted, right? They were violent. Do you want a significant other like that?”
You pulled your hands away from him and stood from your seat. “You—” He cuts you off by holding your hands again, rushing over to the seat beside you, and gently pushing you back on your chair. “Get off of me! You’re twisting my words again!” All he did in response was laugh and hold you loosely. At least he didn’t grip your hands that tight.
“I get you. I get you. Don’t worry! I’m teasing you with good intentions!” He continues to laugh and move his things near you, returning to your side. “Sorry, really, but I understood what you meant. I would rather not have somebody who attacks people with volleyballs.”
Speaking of volleyballs, he remembered one of the things you said while you recalled the whole incident to him. “You said you were setting the volleyball? Didn’t you guys just start learning volleyball? How could you set the ball on your own properly without anybody monitoring? You could’ve squished your head with the volleyball—”
You shushed him, whispering a secret you thought you’d keep from him. “I know how volleyball works, okay? Unlike my other classmates who had no idea how to receive a volleyball, I’ve done it before. But it doesn’t mean I am a professional at it!”
He’d seen you stick your face with books and papers. But you… as an athlete? That’s something new. He never saw you as a type to engage with sports. “And you said I was good at many things, huh? You can also play volleyball! Why don’t you try out for the team too? I know you’ll do great there too!”
Slumping on your seat, you shudder. Minho’s convincing you with something good now, and it doesn’t fit your plans well. “Never saw myself dedicating my life to sports. Even if I say I’m not that bad, I don’t have any plan to spend a lot of time training.”
“I bet you can serve the ball very well like me. Your hand’s so heavy every time you push my head away—okay, I’ll stop!” Minho playfully glares at you. You did push his head away again. Laughing, you tell him, “Stop being so cocky, MVP! We all know you’re good with the sport!” Minho gasps, placing his hand on his chest. “Is _____ really acknowledging my skill in volleyball? That’s such an honor!” He repeatedly bows to you, “Thank you very much, _____. I value your kind words!”
Chuckling, you stop him from bowing, holding onto his built body, “Yeah, whatever, Lee. I just watched you train earlier this morning. You were pretty good.”
And now, you’re back to where it all began, the sports building. You’re facing the same people who had the guts to hurt you. The news of this group expressing their jealousy through volleyballs didn’t go well for Minho’s friends. They had them kneeling on the ground. A crowd surrounded you, implying that many knew about what happened.
Minho is beside you, snaking his arm around yours. “Do you have anything to say to _____?”
Minho and his friends set this whole thing up? Did they plan this right after you told him what happened?
“None of you are answering,” Changbin shouts, “Say something!” Jisung joins, playing with a volleyball in his hand and giving another to Changbin, “Quickly! Say sorry!”
Oh, these guys are taking it seriously. You did not know this duo could be louder than they could have ever been, and it scares you a little. They’ve been happy and fun most of the time. Their faces scream terror.
The group mumbled sorry a few times, making Minho puzzled at how quiet and short they apologized. “Doesn’t sound sincere to me, right, boys?” His friends agreed, telling the kneeled they should apologize genuinely.
Changbin and Jisung handed the volleyballs to Minho and passed them to you. “Nobody should hurt the person I love.”
Some of the boys, specifically Chan, Felix, and Jeongin, squealed loudly, getting the attention of Ara nearby. Ara, unfortunately, heard all of it since all the boys’ voices were echoing in the room. She steps into the crowd and watches the whole scene. You, on the other hand, tried to control your feelings. If Minho said that on a typical day, you’d push his head away like you always do. He said this in front of people, many people. You can’t screw the stunt up.
“Hit them on the face, _____!”
“Go _____!”
And they were all chanting your name. Did you want revenge? No. Do you feel these people should learn their lesson by publicly embarrassing them? No. Do they deserve to get harmed the same way as you did? No. You were truly too nice to treat them like this. Even if you were like royalty to Minho and his friends, you’d rather stay back and let things flow like how they’re supposed to. It already happened, and you’d rather keep things that way. You’re sure you don’t want them to go home with bruises. Shaming them wasn’t the way to go for you.
The group assumed you would hit them, so they covered their heads with their arms and whimpered. Minho’s friends still chanted your name to support the payback until you dropped the volleyballs from your hands. Smiling, you didn’t give in and got out of the room by pulling Minho away to the entrance of the building. Minho holds your hand after closing the door for you.
He stops you from walking down the building’s steps. “You really are too nice for this, _____. I wanted to do something in return for what happened to you.”
Lightly removing his hand from your arms, you roll your eyes. “You mean to bring them back there with volleyballs again for vengeance? Of course not, Minho. It’s so wrong to hit them.” Proceeding with your short trip to his car, Minho follows you behind, not noticing your rolling eyes. “Yeah, keep that bad boy facade. That doesn’t work for me. We’re in a relationship in this deal. If I’m not tolerating violence, then so are you. Let them go, yeah?”
You completely forgot that Minho has the intimidating side that everybody fears. Nobody knows about it except those who’ve seen him retaliate. With those large hands and muscled arms, you knew he could throw a big punch. You’ve seen it. And you know he’s willing to do it if he needs it. Frankly, his throwing punches might be a little attractive to you—whoops.
“Yes, I’ll stop! I’ll stop for you!” Minho raises both arms to his sides, giving in to your request. He knows you mean well, and maybe he needs a little of a change. For the past few days, he hasn’t told you about this yet, but he felt guilty over his teasing of you and all the little competition he started between you two. He began to truly appreciate you, acknowledging that he now considers you his friend, not this weird enemy-slash-competitor like you were before. When his friends asked about you, he was comfortable enough to mention you without cringing by simply thinking about you as he did back then. Minho cared for your thoughts and feelings, only occasionally inserting the teasing when he felt he needed it, which is still all the time, minus the intention of making you push his head away. He doesn’t want to get headaches anymore.
You stay still, the tips of your fingers on his car’s door handle. Will Minho truly stop for you? Well, he has been honest with you for the whole time in this deal. Maybe he felt how uncertain you were about what you could’ve done to the group earlier? If yes, thank the heavens he did; you seriously didn’t want to hurt anybody. “Alright, then. Let’s just go somewhere else.”
“How about the seaside near the mall in the other city?” You blinked after he delicately pulled your hand once again from the door handle. All the touches that happened ruined you, making you feel butterflies every time. The hand-holding, too, was making you flustered every time now. Is it because you brought down the walls against each other now? Were you getting too comfortable about his affections? He might’ve done this to others without making them flustered.
Minho rose his brows at how unresponsive you were to his touch. He assumed you didn’t get that much sleep before fetching you earlier this morning. After all, you volunteered to proofread your paper before emailing it to your professor. Both of you were on a video call the whole night. Minho was sweet enough to watch you proofread the articulation paper as impressive as you two made. Waving his hand in front of your face, he expressed his confusion about your lack of action. “You good? Did you get to sleep well last night? You were staring at the ground.”
Shaking your head, you answer him right after you get out of your trance. “Yes, I’m fine. Yeah, maybe. I still got the sleep, but it wasn’t the best, to be honest.” You finally got into the car after Minho opened the door for you.
You yell through the window as Minho goes to the driver’s seat. “The seaside’s an excellent choice, by the way!” Minho smiles, satisfied with the idea he just made. He thought of taking you there for some fresh air after a lot of stress and work over the last few days. Dedicatedly working with you day and night made Minho realize how far you’re willing to go just to pass. No, you’re not doing everything just to pass; you wholeheartedly wanted to excel, and that’s what he liked about you. He remembers how you will not let his outline for the paper slide.
“Minho, we have to make this paper detailed. Based on your outline, our paper’s going to be vague. We wouldn’t be able to dig deep into our topic.” You underlined some parts in the outline he attempted to create. “If we have the chance to explain further, then take it. Let’s not take this lightly. The paper is a part of our major requirements for the class.”
Minho didn’t care about this class much since his degree’s technicalities weren’t there. There was no math and programming, so he cared little about his work. Not until you became his partner for this paper. Did he guess he’ll take this more seriously now that you’re with him?
He mumbled under his breath. “Felix wasn’t kidding when you take every requirement seriously.” You glance up at him, raising your eyebrow. “Felix told you? We were group mates in another class.”
Nodding, he peeks at the pad of paper you were writing on. He meekly answers, “Felix told me you were the leader, and he thought the position fits you. He told me you were ‘artistic’-ish since you always have many ideas in your head.”
“Seems like Felix dropped many things about me to you.” You chuckle. “Was that why you knew much about me before we got into this fake relationship?”
Since Felix is a good friend, you didn’t expect him to talk about you to Minho. Although, you didn’t expect that he’ll get into detail like that since both of you bond together during classes only. “You got to use them against me.” You mumbled, playfully rolling your eyes. “Thanks for all of the teasing, by the way. I still remember how you embarrassed me about how I messed up my report to my prof last year.”
Minho was going to apologize already since it was the right timing, but you cut him off showing what you wrote on his face. Not the right timing. “Here! I made the outline you made more specific! What do you think? Do you think our paper could be good with this flow?” He grabbed the paper and distanced it from him a little, squinting his eyes.
The outline you made was jaw-dropping for him. He was astounded by how comprehensive your outline was. He wasn’t in the right mind to create a good articulation paper right now with this hell of a topic, so it amazed him how you could plan the critical points necessary for the paper. “You do not know how good this is, _____. This is great!”
In Minho’s head, he declares that you’re one of the most intelligent group mates he has ever encountered. And he found you interesting at that moment—how was your mind this brilliant? Papers like this take him days. It’s not his field of interest, so it consumes a lot of his time. “I don’t even do outlines. This one’s thorough and very impressive. You even pointed out things here that I never thought of!” He uses his ballpen to show them to you, laughing out of wonder. “This is not even the paper, yet you’re surprising me for real.”
“Great! We’ll be on the road for a long time, so buckle up! We’re going to have a nice time!” Minho bashfully grins. That was so adorable. You cannot help but poke his cheek for that. There was something about the glint in his eyes and the bottomless energy spewing out of him. This is a different Minho, a very joyful one, to be exact. When you notice Minho’s ears turn red, you giggle, reaching for his cheek again to pinch. “Your ears are so red! So adorable!”
Minho scratches his head and moves it away, you out of his sight. His hand climbs up to his face, feeling the heat on his face. Smiling, he tries to keep the tension down. “Shut up. I’m just a little excited.” Laughing, you lightly push his shoulder. “And it’s adorable, Minho. I don’t see you get excited quite a lot.”
Grumbling, he pushes your head away, similar to what you usually do to him. With shouts of protest coming from your mouth, he shouts back nonsense to tease your way of resisting. “Why don’t you take a nap first, _____? We have around an hour to go before we arrive at the seaside. If traffic persists, maybe another hour stuck on the road.”
You surrender by slumping your shoulders. “That wouldn’t be so bad, I guess.” Minho smirks and slowly pushes your head to the window. “You spent the whole night worrying about our paper. Take a nap, please. Take this as a little favor from me.” Minho waves his hand up and down as a sign to close your eyes. You whine. “I’m doing a favor right now. Ask me one at a time,” you move around on your seat, getting comfortable, “but I might take that little one. I’ll sleep for a bit.”
He waits for you to settle down and close your eyes before turning the engine on and starting the trip. When he hears your tiny snores, he unknowingly pats your head, letting out a satisfied sigh from his lips. Minho’s absolutely glad that you gave yourself time to rest. You're unstoppable—he learned something new about your work ethic over the past few days. While working on your paper and other requirements, Minho saw you sit endlessly, writing, typing, reading, and doing everything you could have done to complete the demands. Including no sleep, you barely let your eyes close completely like you always do until Minho ensures you get enough rest. Minho couldn’t believe that you were still so lively despite your normality of barely sleeping. Pretty much like Chan, he thinks. He thought only Chan was capable of doing that.
He takes this as an exchange for your acceptance of this deal he made with you. He thought that helping you in your routine while staying by his side to have you as his boyfriend was a great way to get the chemistry needed for a couple and that heart of yours (to be your friend, obviously). And so far, his plan is working. You’ve been getting comfortable with him, and he’s happy to see you no longer see him as this horrendous human being who’ll ruin your week every time. Plus, his group chat with his friends is flooding his notifications that Ara saw the occasion earlier in the sports building.
jisung: seungmin said ara was staring at both of you earlier!
jisung: it should be working!!!!
felix: i got to see it! she has the usual sad face lol
chan: are you sure you saw her face…?

felix: JHSFDADJ STOP YOU TWO???
seungmin: LMAOOO felix, you probably forgot that they’re not a real couple, right?
felix: WELL, they *are* a real couple right now so…
felix: and they’re getting along very well!!! have you seen them the other day?
chan: oh, when you guys were talking about the next machine project?
felix: YEAH, the three of us were initially discussing it until they argued what type of loops they were going to use in the program lol
seungmin: so that’s how you define “they’re getting along very well” then?
minho: for the record, it was a peaceful argument, kim seungmin.
seungmin: oh HE’S ALIVE
minho: and we’re not cheating btw, i know talking about the project to others is not allowed lmao we’re just talking about which loop truly fits the mechanics
minho: _____ kept on pushing the exit-controlled loop, but i pointed them out the program should check the conditions first before starting the loop
seungmin: and i barely understand what he’s talking about again
minho: turns out, i misinterpreted the mechanics, and their point really made sense
seungmin: thanks for the tmi bro
felix: WAIT REALLY? i used an entry-controlled loop all this time :’>
felix: so i have to change tons of things in the source code then… DAMMIT
chan: hi minho, where did _____ take you?

Synopsis:
“That kiss was never an accident between us”
“If you don’t want to be best friends with me, we can always change another method to interact”
[Tonight]
What the hell just happened?
Repeatedly touching your lips, you just couldn’t get that unerasable scene off your mind.
Your best friend just kissed you.
Yea, kissed you.
It was just a dare to begin with but, why does it feel so different from what it was supposed to mean? The way he approached you slowly with a faint smile stretched his lips, he hovered over you as he leaned down, gently grazing your redden cheeks which you were unsure it was caused by the light alcohol you consumed or the close proximity of his face right infront of you.
The way his fingers gently grazing over the outline of your face, eyes burning with passion and desire for you somehow makes you weak in your stomach and your knees. You were already feeling hazy from the alcohol but then, you just felt like the whole world shutted outside the 2 of you, your eyes only contain him. Your heart told you otherwise that he may mean more than just best friends to you.
No, it can’t be, we have already been best friends for 10 years, how can we possibly go beyond the boundary-
And his soft, plump lips came right intact with yours. It felt wrong but right at the same time, the way how his lips perfectly molded with yours like 2 missing puzzle pieces found their way back with each other. You were only expecting a light one but definitely not how he licked your lips, asking for permission to go deeper and explore your inner mouth that was scented with the strawberry sweet he gave you before the gathering, as always.
He moaned softly against your lips, signifying how he hasn’t get enough of you. Out of shyness, you gently pushed him away as he left in indignant, pout was obvious enough for the rest of your friends to witness. The urge to dig the ground right below your feet was vigorous and you decided to leave prior, giving yourself some air time to digest what you have gone through for the past 10 mins.
You were thankful that Hyunjin didn’t chase after you as you fled, if not you would have blurt some random words that doesn’t filtered through your mind which may end up hurting him.
“Your party ended so early? Why are you here?” Your roommate questioned as she entered, frowning slightly when she saw you snuggling yourself under the sheets and clutching your 2 cheeks that resembles the colour of monkey’s butt.
“I made a mistake… no, we made a mistake…” your eyes squeezed shut as you kept replaying your best friend’s gaze and lips on you, causing your lips still lingering with his affectionate touch and minty scent in your mouth. “What mistake?”
And you explained to her the whole situation, groaning at how her mouth widened as your explanation gets further.
“Heol, you got kissed by the most famous boy in our whole instituition aka your best friend for a decade?! Did you save milky way in your past life?” She grabbed onto your wrists firmly, eyes glowing with sparkles as she stared at your still swollen lips from the kiss earlier.
“Stop staring! I don’t know how to face him anymore…” plopping back on your bed, you covered your eyes with your lower arm as you tried to eliminate that scene off your head, simultaneously thinking on how to face him in the 9am lesson tomorrow.
—
[Next morning]
The night felt endless for you.
Your giddiness has turned into headache as you were not able to fall asleep yesterday night, causing your attention span to be shorter than usual. You were dragging your feets and heavy eyelids into lecture hall.
You couldn’t careless about whoever is sitting beside you, just wanting to get this lesson over and done with. “Are you okay?”
This familiar voice…Hyunjin?
You turned to the right and saw the half-tied blonde ponytail man wearing a black sleeveless top, peeking slightly to observe your facial expression. You were about to reply but the moment you saw his pinkish lips slightly curled up, yesterday’s incident flushed back into your head. You rapidly nodded your head before turning to the other side, face crunching at how among the 100 seats you chose to sit beside him.
He probably noticed how uneasy you were, so he stopped probing further. It definitely hurts him as he saw how you tried to avoid him, but he also understood that yesterday’s dare caused this restraint in you.
Throughout the 3 hours lecture you barely spoke to him, only throwing some gazes to peek and see his reaction. Seems normal for now. You sighed at how you are being a weirdo now, but you are just unsure of how to approach him normally like before — popping by his side anytime, chatting casually and freely, occasional physical touches which can mean differently from now on.
You gave a valid excuse to leave first as you couldn’t stand sitting there any longer. You would rather spend time outside of school to get your brain working again instead of forcing yourself to stay by his side. Dropping by a cafe near your school, you bought a hot mocha for yourself to settle all your mixed emotions and planning how to resume this friendship.
Since you were so indulge in your thoughts, you didn’t even notice the sky gloomed and starting pouring. “What the hell, i didn’t bring my umbrella…” flipping through your tote bag, you letted out n times of sigh as you slouch against the chair.
“It’s now or never,” whispering to yourself, you packed everything into your water resistant bag and decided to run back home before the rain gets heavier. “Miss, do you need an umbrella?” The barista asked as you rejected kindly. “It’s fine, my school is just a few steps away, ill run back, thanks!”
Your turbo is always ready to bring you back to school but you were afraid of slipping since the paveway were spotted with mold. You swiftly raised your palms to cover your head, in hope to avoid the droplets seaping into your scalp which can cause migraine.
“Oh god-“ you letted out a gasp as you found your waist being grabbed by someone firmly and turning you 180 degrees horizontally, leaving you standing upon the step stone as you felt none of the droplets above your head anymore.
“Hyunjin?” You frowned at the sight of him. You glanced up and down quickly, internally praising how his daily outfits never failed to impress you. Small reflection penned in your head as you self consciously looked at your fit, how you never glow since young.
“Why are you here?” It was just a pure curious question that sounded like interrogation, mentally slapping yourself for the ill-mannered you portrayed today. He doesn’t deserve this, he sure doesn’t.
“It’s raining, can’t i come and fetch you?” His eyes burned with the familiar passion that you felt yesterday under the cold night. You were shivering initially, but your body started heating up again because of his 1 gaze.
You are probably hopeless.
“Are you done?!” Frustration started building because of your dilemma, hating how he can spill whatever he thinks and wants so easily while you had trouble sleeping the whole night because of him,
all because of him.
“If you don’t want to be best friends with me, we can always change another method to interact.”
Those doe eyes again, that determined tone again.
“Stop playing word games with me,” you patience has hit its limit and you were about to leave, but got pulled back by his grip again.
“Y/n,” it has been long since he called your actual name. He always go by the nicknames he specially crafted for you, unless in serious situations, like now, where he felt the need to be serious. You have been avoiding his love affections which made him thought that he needed to be more transparent and straightforward.
You placed your palm over your lips as you saw him leaning closer. You thought he would back off, but his words punched you right in your heart, “y/n, That kiss was never an accident between us.”
He swiftly lifted your hands off your lips, pulling you by your waist closer to him as he planted his lips against yours. Once again, that soft, plumpy texture come in contact with yours with a little much more force that before, just to prove that he is serious after all. He didn’t give you chance to retaliate as he circulate his toned arms around you, making you leaned against his chest as he delved deeper into you. You nervously grab onto his black sleeveless top with a quote of “hotter than your ex, better than your next”, resulted your brain frozen as he moved his lips against you.
The irresistable desire he has for you, is endless.
“Hyunjin…” you panted as he left your lips unwillingly, forehead still intact as he letted out a “hmm?” while staring at you. Your cheeks burned, your heart raced, your brain spinned and your ears deafened after what he did to you, and you are pretty sure he knows it. Rubbing soothing circles against your lower back, he tilted the umbrella closer to you, preventing you from further drenched despite his back being wet.
“Y/n, do you like me? Not as your best friend, but as a man,” he asked ever so softly as if you are a porcelein doll held and well taken care of since young, but also holding the fear that you may break, or his heart may break and this friendship will break any seconds ticking from now.
Do i like him?
Do i?
Squeezing your eyes shut, the only thing that pops in your mind is how happy you have felt around him, and the happiness that you never felt among other people. You couldn’t understand why both of you had been best friends for so long when in fact, he has fallen for you long ago, and probably yourself as well.
“Y/n, i will only be repeating one last time. If you don’t like me, i will make sure not to appear infront of you again,” you clearly heard his voice shake and his breath got heavier. It only happens when he is nervous, or insecure about something that matters to his life, and that’s you. The last time you heard was when he became aware you were hospitalised, and this is the second time.
And it is the last thing you want to hear on earth.
“Y/n, do you like me?” His confidence depleted. He thought the chance of him winning your heart was high, but the way you kept quiet for some time makes him feel dejected.
Do i like him y/n?
Do i really like him?
I think i like him.
Yes, i like him.
No wait, i love him.
“Y/n, pleas-“ You shutted him off by placing both of your palms beside his ears, pulling him in for a kiss. The only thing that you care of is him, holding onto you tightly and firmly as if holding his whole world as the rain continues to pour beyond the shared umbrella. What a romantic yet disastrous atmosphere as both of you are almost drenched.
Well, at least it helps you to realise you love him after all.
“Let’s change another method to interact, how about being a couple?”
Giving him a soft eskimo kiss, both of you chuckled under each other’s breath without letting each other go, mentally and physically.
“Of course my girlfriend, i love you for as long as i can remember and as far as the future takes.”

“dude… this is a serious question. chocolate, or vanilla?” huang renjun asked you, a serious look in his eyes, and you stared back at him with equal fervour. “dude.. it’s obviously coffee.” renjun gave you the death glare, and you shrugged. “coffee is the l-o-m-l.” you stated simply, going back to flipping through your beauty magazine. “dude, NO. vanilla.” “you’re boring.” “well, your mom.”
a blank silence ensued, and you shook your head. “that was… offensive…” you told him, fake angry, and he nodded, agreeing silently. “we have nothing to do, oh my fucking god,” he muttered, grabbing his phone to scroll lifelessly.
“what do people even do when they have vacations?” you asked him, lying on your back on your bed. you and renjun have always been the best of friends, and even now, you two shared the same room, and had the same taste in almost everything. “good question. that’s actually a debatable thought.” renjun said, thinking seriously.
“you’re right! we should suggest this to the debate club next week.” “yes!” renjun said, and you two giggled. “we’re dumb and dumber, aren’t we?” you wondered, and he nodded a little TOO enthusiastically. “yes. yes we are. wanna watch despicable me?”
“only if you make me caramel popcorn.”
renjun looked at you in disgust. he thought he had you like ninety-five percent figured out, but yeah. the other five percent disgusted, confused, and worried him. he never understood what about caramel popcorn made you feel so happy, but anything that made you happy was okay with him.
“no, seriously, why do you love caramel popcorn?” he asked you, and you shrugged. you had a lot of memories tied with it, like having caramel popcorn in the theatre with renjun when you two were with your moms, watching a VERY childish movie, after which renjun had to puke because the caramel did NOT agree with him.
“good question, one you should ask my mom who feeds me caramel popcorn like it’s water.” renjun sighed, trudging towards the closet where you had all the ready-to-make foods possible stashed away. “RENJUN!” you screamed, running at full speed, but it was too late.
renjun had opened the closet door only to be buried below way too many packets of various foods, from ramen to popcorn. “…i’ll open the door…” you finished, and he groaned in frustration. “Y/N!”
──────────────────── [ ☆ ] ────────────────────
after seven minutes of renjun yelling at you for being a dumbass, you apologized to him with your iconic puppy eyes look, and renjun rolled his eyes. ungraciously accepting your apology, he began cooking your favorite flavor of popcorn. meanwhile, you switched on the television to watch despicable me 2.
after renjun walked in with his spiced popcorn and your caramel popcorn, he grabbed the remote, eagerly playing the movie. “RAMSBOTTOM!” you both chorused, and laughed.
“no but the minions are my favorite characters in this entire trilogy,” renjun told you between multiple fits of laughter. “I KNOW RIGHT. such iconic creatures.” you agreed, also between many, many giggles. “we’re so childish.” renjun laughed, his eyes crinkling at the sides. “but we love us for it.” you added, smiling.
“yes! stan us for.. um.. i don’t know, un-smelly feet?” renjun said, and you looked at him. “that was… questionable.”
“we are questionable, no one can question that questionable line. it’s not even a question, it’s just a statement.”
“…yeah, i think?”
renjun choked with laughter at your face, and quickly snapped a picture of you with his phone. “HEY!” you yelled, jumping on his phone. renjun acted quickly, standing up and raising his hand, the one he was holding his phone with. “…renjun, are you dumb?” you asked him seriously, and realization hit him.
you were taller than him. a bit, but it still made a 5% difference.
“MAYBE I AM DUMB, BUT PLEASE DON’T DELETE IT!” renjun said in a loud tone. “fine.” you muttered, settling back on the couch. renjun smirked at you, and you said, “if you really don’t want me to delete it, shut up and don’t brag about your win,”
“fine.” he imitated you mockingly. you instantly raised an eyebrow at him, and he backed off to the other end of the couch, raising his hands in defeat.
“fine, you win!”

you and renjun spent the last week of study leave studying and having fun. your midterms were due to start the next week, and renjun took music, while you excelled in theatre. however, you two did enjoy each others classes, and helped when one hit a dead end.
right now, renjun was supposed to be composing a jolly tune, while you had to enact a very depressing and dramatic scene, to understand the emotions felt. what an amazing contrast, right? yes, you both found it sensationally amusing.
“WHY, WHY, WHY!” you randomly screamed, and renjun jumped up from his stave. “Y/N..” he yelled at you, annoyed, and you shrugged, returning to your very conspicuously written script.
after a lot of silence, renjun sighed. “i can’t concentrate. fuck this. i shall scroll through pinterest because we all know i’m an amazing procrastinator.”
“NICE, KEEP IT UP!” you teased, and renjun punched you playfully. “hey! stop teasing me, ms. super actress,” renjun mumbled, turning on his stomach to take a picture of you, wearing your glasses, looking picture perfect with your hair in a bun, and an amazingly sketched pen-drawn line on your cheek. “RENJUN. DON’T YOU DARE.” you said, noticing him slyly raising his phone to capture your script too.
“try and stop me!” he said happily, and you heard the ‘click’ of the camera on his phone. jumping off the bed when you glared at him, he shrugged and ran out of your shared room, causing you to chase after him while the people who were actually studying ended up staring at you two running throughout the building.
──────────────────── [ ☆ ] ────────────────────
exam seasons, ew, you thought privately, seated in the examination hall. you were currently writing your last exam, theatre. it was a practical test, and pretty easy if you were being frank.
after finally ending it and getting out of the stuffy room, you picked up your water bottle, taking deep sips.
“do you need water to live? see! one more thing we have in common has been added to the list of stuff we share in common!” renjun laughed, walking up to you. “ha, ha, very cheesy, you nincompoop!” you exclaimed, slightly red in the face. “how was your exam anyway?”
“went well, renjun. you?”
“oh, amazing, apart from the fact that i had not composed anything. it’s fine, next time! it was only like, what, 5% of the total thing?”
you rolled your eyes at him. “wow, renjun. anyone would believe you weren’t the music nerd you really are.”
renjun pointedly ignored your insult. “what can i say? i have a reputation to maintain.”
──────────────────── [ ☆ ] ────────────────────
“AND THAT, YOU IDIOT, IS WHY NO ONE EVER DRINKS THE FAMOUS BANANA SHAKE FOR BREAKFAST,” you barked at renjun, who was currently getting all his “breakfast” out of his system. taking a break in between, he looked at you and rolled his eyes, going back towards the sink. the only shared classes you both took were english literature and performing arts, and right now, instead of studying shakespeare, you were currently at the room, watching over him as he… well. you know.
after he was finally done doing his business, he opened the bathroom door, and pulled his bag over his shoulder. “learnt my lesson, okay?” he told you, and you smiled. “sure you did.”
he huffed, pulling you towards the door. unfortunately, he may have dragged you a bit too hard. you screeched as you hurtled toward the door, and renjun stood, frozen, whilst you smacked your face on the very hard wooden door. “OW!” you yelped, rubbing your hand gently on your cheek. “here, let me see,” renjun sighed, coming over to help you.
his cold hand grazed the side of your cheek, and you shivered. memories were filling your mind up, screaming and pulling against each other, begging for you to notice them. you shook your head, and renjun narrowed his eyes at you. “umm.. you good?” he asked you, mildly concerned but not really. he was used to his kind of stuff from you.
“yeah, your hands are cold, you dolt.” “…is that the only reason why?” he jokingly muttered, running over to grab some ice. “i’ll just run over to inform the teacher you bonked your head on your own door!” he snickered, walking out the door.
you then realized that maybe, just maybe, your crush on him was rekindling again.
and yes, that was a very, very, VERY bad thing.
──────────────────── [ ☆ ] ────────────────────
after school, you two usually hung out with renjun’s little ‘gang’ of friends, nct dream — mark, renjun, haechan, jeno, jaemin, chenle, and jisung. you were quite close to each other, and you knew some of each other’s secrets. however, only renjun knew your deepest, darkest secrets, and vice versa.
“HEY! Y/N, RENJUN! OVER HERE!” a surprisingly deep voice hooted, calling you two over, and you swung your backpack, seeing the dreamies. it had been jisung who had called you, his characteristic deep voice being a point of astonishment for the girls (and some boys, too) on campus. although he was the youngest of their little circle of friends, he was mature — in terms of voice only.
“so… what’s popping!” mark, the oldest, gushed. “are you guys having too much sugar again?” renjun rolled his eyes, and jeno grinned. “no, MOM, we aren’t… maybe.”
mark, a major in dance, was known on the campus as the ‘heartthrob’ (not that the rest of the dreamies weren’t, he was just… a bit extra.) and many, many, people had an eensy weensy crush on him. you had also fallen victim to his personality once upon a time. he was the decision maker of his group, since the others were so indecisive that even math was truly scared of them.
jeno, however, was the athlete of the group, being very talented at baseball. he was very well known across many universities thanks to his knack at both sports and being charming. he had a particular accent, which not many people could quite place. that made him seem very ‘exotic’.
“jeno… remind me never to give you sugar again, you don’t know how to shut up when you have some sugar.” haechan mumbled, fiddling with the zip of his bag, which seemed to be stuck. shaking your head, annoyed, you walked over to help him.
haechan was the confused genius of a gamer in their group. he usually got straight a’s without even bothering to study, and since he was especially dramatic, you and haechan had constant (friendly) competition to be at the top of the batch. he enjoyed gaming as a hobby, and singing too. you predicted that the dreamies would definitely make a band during their time at uni, and renjun and haechan would be the vocalists.
“here, let me help you,” you grumbled at haechan, who did the same to you. laughing, you finally zipped up his backpack, shooting a thumbs-up at him. “so, where are we going?” jaemin asked, grinning mischievously. “coffee? it’s on me!”
chenle offered, his eyes wrinkling ever-so-slightly at his small smile. you all agreed in unison, and so chenle started off to a pretty café off-campus.
chenle was the ‘rich kid’ of the group. second youngest, he was extremely smart, and was known for his matchmaking predictions. the couple he predicted to be together, would be dating in less than a week. in fact, the only relationship he had ever gotten wrong was the one he predicted between you and renjun. chenle was chinese, just like renjun, but they came from different regions. he took economics, and was to take over from his family’s jewelry business.
jaemin was the crazy, extroverted introvert of their group. he usually behaved like he had had too much sugar. he could handle a large amount of coffee, and his daily order rather concerned his friends. he usually had four extra shots of pure caffeine in his mochas, or americanos. and that was just the minimum. the bare minimum. he took literature, and enjoyed it a lot.
following chenle, you reached your favorite hangout place — florilège de café. it meant collection (anthology) of coffee in french. it had a very pretty beige vibe about it, and it reminded you of trips to the pet store to just feed dogs and cats. the smell of freshly baked bread mixed with the tantalizing scent of coffee just made you so happy, you could jump with excitement.
renjun stared at you, as though he was reading your mind, and smiled at you. “you’re still a five year old mentally.” he commented, causing the dreamies to agree noisily as they took a seat at the table. “haha, very funny, dolt.” you laughed fakely, rolling your eyes. grabbing the very aesthetic-looking menu, you placed your order.
while sipping your coffee, a lot of topics ran across. nonetheless, the one that made you choke was your dating life.
“you know, y/n, i realized your dating life is as non-existent as my f’s.” haechan began, pretending to think deeply. “that’s right, it DOESN’T EXIST.” he concluded, smiling slightly at your expression.
“i wasn’t aware my dating life was a point of interest to you,” you said smoothly, and jeno said, “well, not exactly haechan, but back to the point. you should date, bitch.”
“HEY. language.”
“am i wrong?” jeno raised an eyebrow questioningly.
after a slight pause, you said thoughtfully, “you aren’t. but the guys over here are… eh. plus, i have my eye on someone.”
“oh, really?” jisung asked you innocently, and you nodded. “duh!”
“who?” a chorus of seven boys asked you curiously, to which you chose to reply with a shrug. “come on, y/n, don’t leave your best friend hanging!” renjun said, pouting at you. the rest of you shuddered. “stop pretending to be cute.” mark said, disgusted, and renjun scowled. “i’m not pretending. i am cute, right y/n?”
that was unexpected. “huh?” you said, blinking rapidly. you were not prepared to answer such a question. “UM..” you faltered, trying to think of an answer appropriate enough.
“even she has to question whether to hurt your feelings or not, renjun. ouch.” jaemin said, poking him in the shoulders. thankfully, you were saved from the embarrassment of answering. “anyways, our point is, we can set you up with someone!” chenle said gleefully, and you shrugged.
“no, i rather like being single. no commitments, you see?” you assured them, and they rolled their eyes. “okay, fine, you bore.” haechan laughed, and you eight got back to your coffees and desserts, deciding to let chenle go broke for once.
──────────────────── [ ☆ ] ────────────────────
“y/n, what was that back there?” jeno asked, running to catch up with you after the eight of you decided to go your separate ways. renjun lagged behind with the rest of nct dream.
“what was what back there?” you asked him, pretending to not know what jeno was talking about. “you not answering the very important question of whether renjun being cute was amazing or not?” he inquired. “nothing!” you answered, ignoring the very pointed question. “nothing, yeah, and all of a sudden i have a halo, y/n!”
“NOTHING, jeno.” you insisted, and jeno shrugged. “all i’m saying is if you don’t wanna ‘ruin’ the friendship or whatever, maybe you should experiment to see if he likes you back. if he does, who cares about ruining the damned friendship?” jeno advised, and you paused, running it over in your mind.
he wasn’t wrong. “see, this is the kind of time where i can count on you to give me great advice. you are an intellectual, jeno!” you vouched, and jeno dismissed it.
“well, what can i say? a scholar of love is present in front of you,” jeno jested, beaming. “thanks, jeno.” “don’t mention it, y/n!”
──────────────────── [ ☆ ] ────────────────────
after finally getting to your dormitory with renjun, exhausted, you dropped your bags on the floor, plopping on the sofa while renjun offered to cook some instant noodles. pleasantly accepting the offer, you stretched out your muscles. grabbing the literature homework you had been assigned, you opened google on your phone, questioning it as to who virginia woolf was.
opening wikipedia, you started to write an essay on her past and her written works, typing furiously on your laptop. “here’s your makeshift snack, y/n!” renjun walked in, holding two cups of noodles in his hands. extending a hand out to you, you picked up your cup, smiling as a thank-you. “thanks, renjun,” you mumbled, engrossed in reading.
“what’re you up to?” renjun asked you. “oh, nothing, just researching virginia woolf,” you replied, closing the laptop. “right, the assignment. i’ll do it tomorrow.” “procrastinator.” you scolded lightly. “and proud of it!” he quipped, and you giggled.
“dolt.”
“back at you!”
laughing, the two of you enjoyed the spicy, finger-licking good cup of noodles. “renjun, what time’s dinner again?” you inquired, to which renjun checked the schedule you had been sent for the year.
“in an hour.” he said, looking extremely interested in his noodles, slurping them noisily. “i’m hungry, if you didn’t notice,” he added, looking at your disapproving look. “hey, renjun, i’ll let you in on a secret— I DID, YOU IDIOT.” you scoffed, and he smiled. “idiot.” “i know, renjun,” you smiled back.
“anyway, i’ll go get dressed, because i love fashion!” renjun said, sipping the tasty water of his noodles from the cup. before you could even process what renjun had told you, he had hopped off happily to change his set of clothes. drawing imaginary question marks around your head, you blinked, sighing.
weirdo. but the weirdo you love.
“HI!” renjun yelled, dragging the last syllable as he entered the room. performing a little catwalk, he spun around. “my dude… are you high on coffee?” “…maybe.”
déjà vu, you thought. “oh my god. renjun, do i have to ban you from coffee, the only thing holding your last braincell together?”
“NO!” he protested, quickly jumping on you out of pure instinct. “WH-“ you began, only to have your voice muffled by a certain renjun. “i’m sorry, i have no idea why i just jumped on you y/n…” he offered, in terms of an apology, and you gave him a Look.
“sorry?” he pouted, and you shivered. “NOPE.” “OKAY COME ON, ADMIT IT, I’M KINDA CUTE, RIGHT?” renjun argued, clearly annoyed at the lack of necessary response. “…fine, i think you’re cute when you don’t act like it!” “nice way to kill two birds with a single stone, y/n!” he answered good-naturedly.
“anyways!” you said, trying to cover up the awkward moment.
“i’m gonna sue spotify, y/n. wanna know why?”
“why?” you asked him, bewildered.
“because they didn’t name you the world’s hottest single!” he winked, and you went bright red. “what? thanks, i think, that’s funny, coming from you,” you babbled non-coherently.
“aw shucks, y/n, did you just blush?” he asked you, snickering. to maintain what was left of your dignity and secrecy, you shook your head, determined to google ‘how to not blush’ later. “no, of course not! it’s just pretty hot in here,” you bluffed, and renjun raised an eyebrow. “mostly because of me, am i right?” he laughed, and you were mentally inclined to agree. nevertheless, you shook your head again.
“no, renjun, stop flirting with me!”
“am i really flirting with you? or do you wish i was?” renjun countered, and you groaned. “stop confusing me!” you told him, putting a hand to your head, your brain being very, very confused while it processed.
mood.
“will you stop,” you voiced, in tears of embarrassment. “we’ll see!” renjun said, pecking you on the cheek. that wasn’t really unusual, but in the current moment, the action would go two ways. suggestive, and friendly. and your novice mind would probably take it the wrong way. you ignored it, rubbing your cheek fiercely, smiling at him in an incredibly fake manner. actor advantages, you believed.
believed, more like hoped.
“anyways, won’t you get dressed?” you were interrogated by the new, under-training fashion police sergeant, huang renjun. “what’s wrong with my hoodie?” you asked him, and he frowned. “everything,” he said enthusiastically. you could see by the sparkles in his eyes that he truly meant what he said. or those sparkles could be something else, but who knows. you may never find out.
you were pulled back to reality by the sharp inhale renjun took in. “here, i’ll help you decide something good.” he offered, and you accepted, following him in your closet. “what gave you the sudden interest in fashion?” you asked him, interested to know. “oh, that’s just random. it’ll be gone in a week or so, i guess!” he muttered, absorbed in the monotonous clothes you owned. “remind me to take you shopping for some bright, colourful clothes,” he said under his breath, finally pulling out a floral printed frock in a stunning shade of lilac.
“this. why have you never worn this.” he huffed, staring at you accusingly. “in my defense, i bought it last week, plus, you don’t make my decisions for me, renjun!”
“so you, y/n l/n, are telling me, huang renjun, that you won’t look gorgeous in this and choose to look like my grandma?” he asked you incredulously.
“firstly, your grandma is modern and chic? i didn’t know that! also, i never said that.” you stated, pushing him out the door. renjun slightly protested, but chose to stop fighting when you forced him out the door.
──────────────────── [ ☆ ] ────────────────────
dressed in the gown he had selected for you, you were really wondering why he was making you dress up like this. confused, you dabbed on a bit of powder, staring at the reflection of you in the mirror condescendingly. yes, maybe you liked the vibe you had going on.
“IF YOU EVER- oh wow..” renjun began, changing track mid-sentence to gasp at your look. you grinned at him. “cat got your tongue, renjun?” “um, no, but yes.” “wow, ‘cause that made a lot of sense, oh english scholar huang renjun.” you said, your tone leaking sarcasm. “ha, ha, thank you, oh great stand up comedian y/n l/n!” he replied with equal amounts of sarcasm.
“you’re welcome, mr. huang!” you said, a little over-the-top, adding an accent and using amazing facial expressions. renjun bit his lip, trying to hide his laughter.
hint : he didn’t succeed.
he roared with laughter, and looking at him laugh made you laugh too. after around five minutes straight of the two of you laughing, you wiped the tears from your eyes, not caring that your perfect face powder application was completely destroyed. crying with laughter, renjun finally slowed down his laughter, sighing. “anywho, let’s drive in my car,” renjun said, grabbing you by the hand. a bit skeptical at first, you followed him anyway.
──────────────────── [ ☆ ] ────────────────────
after half an hour of endless driving, renjun stopped. looking out the window, you realized he had taken you to your dream bakery. the most elegant place you’d ever seen, ‘dessertery’ was dimly lit with yellow lights, overlooking a spectacular garden. the nighttime vibes were highlighting the colours of the place, a monotone black with white, curvy lines all over it. you gasped in surprise. “oh my god, renjun, you’re so sweet,” you began, hugging him. taken aback, renjun patted you on the back, hugging you fully after processing. “you’re welcome, dear y/n.” he said, smiling cutely.
“come on!” he gestured for you to walk into the bakery, which also served savory food too. “have what you want, it’s my treat.” “oh, no, i couldn’t, renjun.” you stated, and renjun sternly looked at you, saying threateningly, “if you are going to pay, you could’ve come alone, so no. i will pay.” defeated, you slumped your shoulders in a show of disappointment. chuckling at your five-year-old antics, renjun grabbed your elbow, pulling you inside the magic filled with attractive aromas and lots of people.
“how did you even get a booking here?” you turned to renjun, who hummed, ignoring the question. “reserved in the name of huang renjun?” he told the receptionist, who nodded with a smile. “hello, mr huang! i’ll show you to your table.” following her, you walked past the display counter, where nearly hundreds of different desserts were on display for everyone’s mouths to water at. shaking your head to awaken yourself from your trance, you continued behind renjun, and the two of you were led into the backyard of dessertery. little fairy lights were strung around the trees, splashing yellow light on the tables. your mouth widening a little, renjun pulled back a chair for you, and you took your seat, still staring in awe at the scene around you.
the receptionist handed you a menu, and said, “have a nice time, you couple!” looking at the two of you blinking rapidly, the receptionist giggled and walked off. “oh.” renjun mumbled, rubbing his hand on the back of his neck. “thank you so much, renjun.” you thanked him. “not a problem for you, y/n.”
flipping through the menu, you chose your desserts, along with a main course — basically meaning some amount of junk food which you normally would refuse to have — and handed the menu to renjun for him to place his order. as soon as the waiter came over, you recited your order like it was sacred. laughing at your tone with his eyes crinkled, renjun placed his order too. the waiter smiled, nodding, and walked quickly.
“so, did i ever tell you how good that dress looks on you?” renjun asked conversationally. “no, so tell me now!” you replied with the same tone. “well, looks great, ms. l/n.” “why, thank you, mr huang!” chuckling, renjun shook his head, looking up at the sky. “even the moon doesn’t shine as bright as you tonight.” he muttered softly, but loud enough for you to hear it.
“well, no wonder the sky is so dark. all the color is in your eyes.” you retaliated.
“okay then, they say to only think about what’s pure and lovely. that’s probably why my mind always thinks about you.”
“are we seriously having a who-can-come-up-with-a-better-pickup-line contest?”
“maybe.”
“wow, are we really friends or something more?”
“oh,” renjun stared at you. you stared back. avoiding the very awkward silence, you switched on your phone, staring blankly at the wallpaper. luckily, the waiter decided to save you both from the moment by getting your food. you picked at your pasta, looking up to see renjun making eye contact. “anyways.” he began.
“yes.” you finished.
and just like that, you two were friends again.
──────────────────── [ ☆ ] ────────────────────
“y/n, date him.”
jeno came up to you one day, and you stared at him suspiciously. “where’s this coming from?” you asked him sternly, and he looked back at you with equal intensity. “MAKE HIM JEALOUS, DO SOMETHING, I DON’T KNOW! IT’S SO ANNOYING TO SEE YOUR LOVEY-DOVEY EYES ALL OVER EACH OTHER. be selfless and think about the bitches back home, y/n!” you rolled your eyes at his little dialogue.
“you do know you’re the athlete because you can’t do drama, right?” you said sassily, and he raised an eyebrow. “you do know you’re the theatre nerd because i can throw you across the room right now without flinching an eye, right?”
“ooookaaaay, let’s not get violent here.” you hastily spoke up, and jeno laughed. “no guarantee.” he said mysteriously, and you punched him playfully. “you were joking, right?”
a blank silence.
“RIGHT?” you asked, slowly panicking, and jeno quickly answered, “yes, yes! of course, y/n.” a little too quickly for your taste.
“okay, now i’m just a bit scared. anyways, i’m scared to ruin the relationship.” “i can tell, y/n. but what kind of relationship is it anymore?” jeno asked you, and you were silent, deep in thought. “okay, not gonna lie, i see your point.” “i know.” he smirked, and you sighed irritably. “shut up, jeno.” “if i did, i wouldn’t be as fun!” “..okay, you’re right.”
“i know.”
“do you only know those two words fluently, or is it like you memorised them as a basic response-?” you asked him smoothly, and it was his turn to be annoyed. “why are we like this?” “i don’t even know, but BACK TO THE POINT.”
“right, go date him.”
“that’s not helpful my dude.”
“whatever, at least i figured out you both like each other. dumb-dumbs.”
“shut the fuck up. give me good advice instead of pointlessly insulting me.”
“insulting you is more fun, but sure. make him jealous, prove he likes you, then provoke him to ask you out, grow up, get married, have kids, watch them grow up, slap them for dating the wrong kind of people, watch their first breakup, watch their second, then watch them eventually get married, then watch your grandchildren, then just die.”
you were kind of scared of this jeno. “are you okay?” “alright, maybe i had too much coffee. i was dared to try jaemin’s coffee,” he admitted, and you slapped a hand to your forehead. “which bitch gave you the idea to do that? everyone knows no one can handle that coffee.”
“it was jaemin himself, duh!”
shaking your head disapprovingly, you turned to him, squinting your eyes. realizing a little too slow that you were analysing something about him, he imitated your expression, the two of you looking like a pair of monkeys.
“what’s going on in that genius mind of yours, y/n?”
“you seem like the hottie of the batch. everyone would be jealous. nice proportions, nice hair. you’re a good friend, and you won’t catch feelings because you’re already in love with ryujin. OKAY THEN.” you began in a low voice, and nodded privately, thinking to yourself.
“WELL, IF YOU’D BE SO KIND AS TO LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU’RE PLANNING WITH ME-?” he too began, and you raised a hand to inform him to stop. “fake date me, jeno! we can make renjun and ryujin both jealous!”
he paused, and thought about it. “sure, let’s do this shit.”
──────────────────── [ ☆ ] ────────────────────
little did you two know that at the time, ryujin and renjun had already met up privately to discuss the very same matter but in a different perspective.
“okay, so, renjun. we all know you are in love with y/n, and she loves you. so i propose an interesting plan. how about you fake date someone to prove it?”
renjun stared at ryujin, nodding slowly. “and how does this so-called plan work? explain in detail.”
“date someone, make y/n jealous, provoke her, make her lose her shit and confess to you, then graduate, marry each other, get a super boring job, realize you both don’t love each other anymore, take a break, then realize you do still love each other, get back together, soon have kids, watch them face many heartbreaks and write songs about it, then finally fall in love, watch them get married, have kids of their own and look after them, buy your grandkids gifts and what-not, then die.”
renjun privately thought jeno and ryujin were perfect for each other. “okay, that was a bit too detailed.” ryujin shrugged. “you asked for it!”
“anyways. who do you suggest i fake date?” “me.”
ryujin casually began picking at her nails while renjun processed a bit. “okay. why?” “because. i need to make jeno jealous too. it’s not a want, it’s a need. we both have been flirting a bit, but i don’t know if he likes me back or not. so why not help ourselves! it’s a win-win.”
“why would you bring up winwin?” renjun asked accusingly. “I MEANT, WIN HYPHEN WIN. you know, fifty percent perfect profit for the pair of us.” renjun formed a comical ‘o’ with his mouth, and made a poker face. “alright. let’s do this.”
──────────────────── [ ☆ ] ────────────────────
“HI BRO!” renjun called, searching for you in the dorm. “hey!” you replied, looking up from your laptop. “i have something to tell you.” “me too!”
“you go first!” “no, you.” “no, it’s fine, you go first.” “no, i’m fine, go first.”
“you know what? let’s roll the damn dice. even numbers, you go first, odd numbers, i go second.”
“ALRIGHT! oh. wait.” you said, and renjun laughed loudly. “okay. okay. odd numbers, me, even, you.” nodding, you opened google, searching for the roll the dice program. rolling it, an even number popped up. “oh. four. even. fine. jeno asked me out! i’m dating him right now,” you said as fast as you could, trying to rip off the bandage.
“oh, funny. i’m dating ryujin!” renjun said casually, and you nodded. “interesting, good for you!” you replied, equally casual. “right! happy for you too!” he smiled, and you smiled back. “i actually have work to do, so i’ll get to it.”
“right, me too.” renjun nodded slowly. you both stared at each other for a while, and renjun walked off, waving, towards his room. opening your imessages with jeno, you told him about what had just happened. he replied, saying that it was fine, and that he’d meet you the next day. wishing you a good night, he went offline, and you sent him a reply back.
this was already getting difficult.
──────────────────── [ ☆ ] ────────────────────
it had been three days since you four had began fake dating the wrong people. much to your distaste, renjun had offered a double date, to which jeno had happily agreed. right now, you were stuck deep in an abyss of your thoughts while jeno had been prodding you to get ready.
“dude, you must look sexy.”
seeing a bright light in front of your eyes, you realized jeno had shined his phone’s too-bright flashlight in your eyes to make you notice him. “i know, but what do i wear?”
jeno began promptly laying out dresses for you to choose from, and you scrutinized each of them. you wanted to save the one renjun loved for a special occasion, so that was out of the question. you did not want to look too emo, so the entirely black one was out of the question too. jeno finally stopped after pulling out seven dresses in total, of which two were cancelled.
“i like this pink one, and the navy blue one.” jeno said, pointing out two and picking them up, placing them away from the others to highlight them. the pink one was glittery, and shone bright in the light of your room, the sequins on it shining too.
the navy blue one was your favorite. it was a simple dress, and that’s what you liked about it. it didn’t have any patterns on it, but still looked great on you. and that’s why you decided to go with it, and shooed jeno out to get ready.
jeno’s jaw dropped when he saw you come out of your room. “nice!” he exclaimed, and you smiled. “thanks, jeno. you look great too.” “i know, y/n,” he replied. and you laughed, shaking your head. “let’s leave? renjun will be leaving from ryujin’s place he told me.” jeno asked you.
readying yourself, you got on your toes, and got back to normal, trying not to show that you were nervous. “yes, jeno. let’s go.”
──────────────────── [ ☆ ] ────────────────────
“and then, she went and said that he was a goat!”
renjun was currently filling in jeno and ryujin on all your embarrassing moments, and the other two weren’t exactly being kind. roaring with laughter at your foolishness as a six year old, who misidentified a man as a goat, jeno and ryujin were wiping tears from their eyes. “y/n, i had no idea you were so funny!” ryujin laughed, and jeno said, trying to hold in his laughter to speak clearly, “she still is funny, trust me.” “i can tell!” ryujin said, and continued cackling.
you knew renjun too well. he seemed to be painfully smiling, like he actually didn’t want to be there. oh, you were very close to the right answer, though. renjun did want to be there, but with a different date. the same went for each of you. if only any one of you had the courage to say that they didn’t want the same date, but wanted someone else. life would’ve been much, much easier.
but there you four were, dining on fancy food, when all you wanted to do was hug the people each of you loved. you, however, were desperate to know if renjun liked you in that way or not before you jumped to any conclusions and went and ruined your friendship. how smart, right?
you were starting to change your mind though.
just as the first course arrived, things had already started to become awkward. losing conversation ideas, everyone was on their phone, defeating the purpose of the so called ‘double date’. you, in fact, were a hundred percent convinced that this wouldn’t work. so you texted jeno.
you — 20:26 PM
This is getting sad.
The awkwardness I’m experiencing right now is undefeatable.
looking up from your phone, you saw the notifications on jeno’s phone, while he was digging in. he stopped mid-spoon, and responded to you.
jeno — 20:26 PM
I agree with you, but what do I say??
We can’t even admit anything. This is very depressing.
you — 20:27 PM
Alright then. I feel like if one of us doesn’t speak up, the awkwardness will only escalate. What now?
jeno is typing . . .
just before you received his text back, renjun had already opened his mouth to speak.
“okay, i cannot take this anymore.” he began. “we—“
he paused, and you coaxed him to speak up. “what?” you persuaded. “what are you saying?” ryujin prodded him, and he inhaled deeply. “we are fake dating.” he said as quickly as possible, as though it’d rip off the bandage without hurting. much to his surprise, yours and jeno’s reactions were less-than-shocked. “oh…” you and jeno chorused. jeno looked at you, and you nodded to him softly. “well, we are too.”
“oh my god, this is amazing news.” ryujin sighed with relief. “wow, go figure,” you replied jokingly, and ryujin laughed. “we should talk more, y/n!” she said, and you nodded. “here, type in your number, ryujin,” you handed her your phone, and she set up her contact, saving her nickname as ‘ryujin 😏’. not even questioning it, you mimicked the emoji, and she copied your expression.
meanwhile, the guys had been silently eating their appetizers, staring at the exchange between you two as though it was a tennis match, their eyes following you both. both of you turned to your fake dates, trying not to burst with laughter. the waiter, who was patiently waiting for someone to respond to his multiple questions about who wanted what, was looking a bit on edge.
“miss? would you please be so kind as to tell me whether you’d like the chicken or the greens as your appetizer?” he enquired with his voice hinting that he was either extremely tired of standing, or tired of you. “ummm, i’ll have the chicken!” ryujin said, and you opted for the greens.
the rest of the dinner went considerably well, although there was a lot of tension [friendly, of course] between you and renjun. you two were starting to have an idea that you loved each other, but there was still no courage in the both of your minds to say it out loud.
after dessert, and a delicious one at that, jeno went with ryujin, who had hit it off with her immediately, to drop her back home. that left you and renjun to go to your dorm together. the drive back was kind of awkward, but it was fine, you thought.
renjun took a deep breath. “y/n, are you an electrician? ‘cause you light up my days and nights!”
“RENJUN!”
──────────────────── [ ☆ ] ────────────────────
the days flew by, and the amount of pick-up lines the two of you were using on each other were also flying by. in fact, you realized that the amount of times you had looked for pick-up lines had completely changed your youtube recommendations. the first thing that popped up was ‘how to know if he likes you or not’.
life was trying to tell you something.
you tapped on the sacred video, slightly worried. “HEY Y/N!” renjun’s voice called, and you jumped, quickly switching off your phone. “dude, you good?” he asked you, noticing your heavy breathing. “yeah, i’m great. not that you scared me or anything, renjun.” you deadpanned. “hey! no need to be sarcastic, you nincompoop.” he responded cheerfully, showing you a wonderfully decorated box.
“what’s that?” you asked curiously, grabbing the box from him. “a gift, since it’s your birthday week.” “wait, it is? oh, of course it is. i meant, for me?” you rambled, and he grinned cheekily. “who else, called y/n, lives with me in our dorm?” he began, gasping dramatically. “am i with a devil right now?” he slapped a hand to his mouth.
you rolled your eyes, grabbing your phone to open the camera.
“smile, bitch. you’re going on the hall of stupidity.”
he pursed his lips, saying threateningly, “if you don’t open that shit in the next two minutes i don’t know what i will do.” “wow, so threatened!” you said with a fake hint of fear. you began opening the present elegantly and delicately anyway, already placing facts in your head. it was about the size of your palm, and as you opened it, you realized it was gold.
a minimal gold chain had been fit into a box, on which the words ‘happy birthday week, y/n!’ had been engraved into. it had an opening (sort of) from which a single, pretty butterfly hung. you brought it to your eye, gaping in awe at the prettiness simply radiating from it.
“renjun! you shouldn’t have, how much did this even cost you?” you said, a few fluttery notes escaping among the syllables of the sentence. “the price doesn’t matter. i could afford it. did you like it?”
“um, obviously? does it not look like it? bitch?” you said, getting up to place the box on your bedside table. “not gonna wear it now?”
“no, i’ll wear it on my birthday. looks too radiant to wear it for no reason.”
“you are not ‘no reason’, you extraordinarily stupid person.”
“either way.”
“look, y/n, can i confess something?” he asked you, his voice lowering by a few octaves. “of course, what’s up?” you asked him, gesturing for him to sit on your bed. “okay. so. i may love you?” he asked questioningly. “is that a question or a statement, renjun?”
“fine. i will say something now. pay attention, okay? i love you. y/n l/n, i love you. the way you talk, your voice, your beauty, your hair, your vocabulary — which is dumb sometimes but whatever — the way you smile, your eye color, your taste in stuff, the way your eyes light up whenever you see your friends. and nothing can change that.”
your jaw dropped. “renjun.. i’m sorry, but we can’t, i’m scared.” you said, getting up. you didn’t even know why you turned him down when he didn’t even ask you out. you walked out the door, trying to make sense of what he and you had just said.
what had you done?
──────────────────── [ ☆ ] ────────────────────
renjun didn’t say anything. in fact, he had completely ignored you. he did look a bit tearful, but you couldn’t even say anything. you couldn’t possibly blame him for something you turned down, right?
it was around two days before your birthday, the twentieth of march. all the music majors had a performance, wherein they had to perform live, in front of the whole university, songs they had composed themselves. you were there for renjun, although you both weren’t on speaking terms yet.
sighing, you walked over to the auditorium. renjun’s performance was the last, from what you understood of the programme the visual arts majors had made.
you were slightly getting bored of everyone’s performances. you had to admit they performed well, but they had composed the most boring songs possible. you were just about to stretch yourself when you realized it was a very shy renjun who had come up on stage. your eyes widened when you noticed he carried a guitar with him. he had once told you he had a fear of playing the guitar because he had embarrassed himself at music camp when he was ten. this was something new that you made a note to ask him later.
it then hit you that the two of you weren’t talking to each other.
“hi everyone, i’m huang renjun. i’m going to perform a song called my flower, which i composed on the guitar in the ‘a’ scale. it’s dedicated to my long time crush and best friend, whose birthday coincidentally happens to be the day after tomorrow. y/n l/n, this one’s for you.
oh, my flower,
thought i could protect you from the world
i’m sorry, my flower
you’re so pretty, the way you twirl
oh, my flower, wish i could help more,
i’m sorry, my flower, i know i’ve been a bore.”
he began his introduction in a low voice, scared. however, he cheered up when he realized that the crowd were clapping for him.
“i know, you know, it doesn’t take a while,
no matter what, you can always smile
i’m sure this is super cringe, please forgive me
this is my first ever song, i’m trying, don’t you see?
my dear flower, laugh the way you do
one day, i know my face will be blue
trying to keep my love a secret from you
i can’t take it anymore, my god, that’s true
oh, my flower,
thought i could protect you from the world
i’m sorry, my flower
you’re so pretty, the way you twirl.
oh, my flower, wish i could help more,
i’m sorry, my flower, i know i’ve been a bore.
and i wish one day you could see
all the things i’m trying to do,
for you
oh, my flower,
i love you so very much,
oh, my flower,
thanks to you, my heart’s in a crutch.”
the crowd was silent. then everyone got up, joining their hands together for the one and only huang renjun. the dreamies were whistling, and renjun stared at you.
the tears in your eyes were the only reaction he needed.
after going to the dormitory, you congratulated him awkwardly. the relationship between you two was a bit better, but you knew what you could do to fix it.
and that’s what you were going to do.

“hey, my favorite dudes!” you exclaimed the next day. you had specially requested chenle and jeno to meet up with you in private. “what do you want, y/n?” chenle asked, not even bothering to look up from his phone. “look up from that phone, and i’ll tell you what’s up.” you scolded him.
finally looking up, he surveyed the eager expression on your face. “tell us what’s up.” “i’m going to do something special for renjun. i was thinking of yelling the whole of the dormitories down, but anything that doesn’t require me losing my voice?”
“do it. lose your voice.” jeno said firmly. “i actually agree with jeno. it shows that he means a lot to you.”
“oh. okay. if he says that i didn’t need to, i will be coming after you. wait. and. watch.” you menacingly voiced, and chenle painfully smiled. “we know, y/n. don’t blow this.”
nodding, you left them to pay for their own bill, because you had miraculously forgotten your wallet.
“Y/N!” two voices chorused, exasperated.

“RENJUN, I LOVE YOU!” you screamed, pointing at jaemin and jeno, who thrusted out a huge poster you had made with their help.
“I LOVE THE WAY YOU BEHAVE DUMB, THE WAY YOU GET NERVOUS WHEN YOU’RE ON STAGE, YOUR LAUGH, YOUR STUPID PICK-UP LINES, THAT SONG YOU DEDICATED TO ME, YOUR GUITAR SKILLS, YOUR SINGING, YOUR SMILE, THE WAY YOUR EARS GO RED SOMETIMES WHEN YOU’RE SHY OR EMBARRASSED.
THE CONCLUSION IS, I LOVE YOU.”
“I LOVE YOU TOO, IDIOT! I’D STEAL YOU ROSES RIGHT NOW.” he yelled back, running down. you hugged him and kissed him full on the lips. the rest of the students clapped, and some even whistled.
and so it was the day before your birthday, that is, the nineteenth of march, at six thirty-seven in the evening that you had the best boyfriend — huang renjun.

"Wait wait wait— Hold on, dude. What?" Mark said confused, his brows furrowed and his lips slightly gaping at his friend's declaration.
"I think I like her!" "No wait I don't 'think' I like her, I actually like her." "I LEGIT DO I SWEAR—" Donghyuck grabbed the older boy by his shoulders and started shaking him back and forth. "I am not doubting you just stOP SHAKING ME, HYUCK." And with that, Donghyuck did stop, his hands were still on Mark's shoulders and the two boys were just looking at eachother. It was like one of those scenes in an anime or in a cartoon where the animation suddenly turns into a very basic version of the original one, accompanied by a long awkward silence in a comical sense.
"How did you even come to that conclusion?" He asked the choco ball in front of him (yes that choco ball is Donghyuck). "Because I can't annoy her. I can't get her to be mad at me if you get what I mean. Unlike the others she's just chill. She's just... She's too much of an angel." He answered, his voice was gradually softening.
"And every time I had to make it up to her after the many failed attempts I did in the past, I'm surprised that I know her favorite snack are choco pies and her favorite beverage is the raspberry iced tea you can get at the vending machine for a song." He uttered. "That she tends to clasp her hands together when she's shy or nervous and that she has the habit of swinging her feet when sitting down and it's adorable, by the way—" Donghyuck continued, eventually listing every detail he didn't realize he knew about you. His words just slipped out if his lips effortlessly, there is no deception in them; they were true. Mark smiled at the sight of this Donghyuck. It was different from the chaotic one he always sees. One look at the boy's face and you'll already know that he means it when he said he likes you. "So... Are you gonna do something about that or what?"
That made Donghyuck think. The boy touched his chin using his thumb and his index finger as he squinted his eyes. When the realization hit him hard like a baseball bat yesterday, he still hasn't think of what will he do. "Should I ask her out?" He asked. "Well, yeah sure I guess you can do that. Just walk up to her and ask if she wants to grab coffee with you or something." Mark told Donghyuck. "That's sounds too boring. Why would I ask her to grab coffee with me when I can take her to an amusement park or something." Donghyuck complained. "It was only an example—" "You suck at giving examples then." The older boy looked into the distance, gazing at a nonexistent camera as if he was in the office for a moment before returning his eyes on Donghyuck. "Just go and do it, alright?" He said before patting the top of the younger boy's head.
Since first period he can't get you out of his mind, preoccupied by daydreams on how should he approach you. He had no problems on approaching you before but now that he has this feeling for you, it suddenly sent anxiety to every nerve of his body. This was the first time he ever felt like this. It was a foreign experience.
When his fourth class was dismissed, he happened to walk by the classroom of your section. He slowed down— sneakily taking a peek inside and he saw you looking outside the window. Donghyuck stopped, ending up standing in front one of the classroom's doors with his hands inside the pocket of his mustard yellow hoodie. The feeling of someone's eyes on you made you look straight at the door as if you already had an idea where your tingles are sensing it. Donghyuck was frozen, embarrassed that he was caught staring but when you waved your hand in a small manner, his frozen state melted down. He took one hand out of his pocket and waved back. The loud ringing of the school's bell interrupted the small moment. He didn't want to leave yet, but he knows he should as another (and the last) class is about to start. Since when did he ever care about attending class? He never did of course, but he enjoys the feeling of daydreaming in a period of time where he should be focusing on something else; it's not like he minds if he got scolded about it. The boy flashed a small smile before leaving and a grin crept its way onto your lips.
It amazed you that he becomes this completely different person when it comes to you; he wasn't this "asshole" everyone labelled him as. Usually, he was snarky around everyone; bossy sometimes as well. He likes messing around. He likes creating ruckus whether it be with a certain person or the entirety of the world. You received a lot of warnings in your first day that he liked to cause trouble; annoying people was his sole purpose in this world as they would put it. Well yeah sure maybe he did mess up your notes once, spilled paint on your uniform that took weeks to remove and tried to blame you for the small explosion that happened in the science lab, but you weren't mad. Your classmates were confused why you weren't mad. Donghyuck was confused why you weren't mad. You were taking everything well and maybe it's because you found him cute despite his efforts of trying to have this badass image.
The hoodies he wears have bears embroidered in them, the pencil he uses had those cute prints that are usually found in children's pencils, and his phone case was painted by his younger sibling. Even if you wanted to be angry, you don't think you can. Not when he looks like he came straight from those "soft boy moodboards". Not to mention, he was like a clingy child to his friends. All you see is a boy who is trying to enjoy his youth as much as he can (though that does not excuse his "asshole" behaviour with others).
Even though your friends are weirded out by your logic, you're just too ashamed to share to them that you have a crush on, apparently, the school's number one pain in the ass.
Suddenly you remembered that you haven't actually expressed your gratitude to the boy who gave a bandaid with bears on them and you thought that maybe now is your time to make it up to him after all the snacks and drinks he bought you out of guilt. Time was ticking and the teacher at the front was busy teaching as you took noted down important information. Seconds became minutes but the both of them just passed by. The next thing you were doing was gathering the courage to walk up to him. How do I say thank you? Why am I nervous I'm just going to say thank you. You told yourself while you were walking through the busy hall filled with students rushing to leave the school grounds, a bag of chips and a can of coffee in your hands.
As if yesterday repeated itself, the collision of two bodies made a moderately strong impact. Unlike what happened last time, both didn't end up thrown on the ground. It just caught the two people off guard. "Hey watch it—" Donghyuck shut his mouth immediately when he recognized the person to be you; the switch for his attitude seemingly turned off. "(Y/N)! God we really need to stop meeting like this. Are you alright?" He chuckled slightly before asking you with concern in his voice. "I'm fine. Don't worry, Hyuckie." You assured. Hyuckie??? The boy felt his soul escaping his body for a moment just to jump around and panic over the nickname. For a good amount of time, the two of you were just standing there. No one had the intention of walking away or saying goodbye because both people had something else to say.
"Do you want to grab coffee with me?—"
"Do you remember the bandaid?—"
The both of you were staring at eachother with a shocked expression as you both spoke at the exact same time. At this point, the hall was almost empty and it was just you and Donghyuck left in the middle of it. You were flustered, you could feel the blood rushing to your cheeks and Donghyuck can feel the same thing. Not because you asked if he remembers the bandaid he gave you yesterday, but because he can't believe he actually blurted those words out of his mouth. For the mean time, the atmospheric was awkward, not until you gave him an answer.
"I'd love to." You replied shyly. Donghyuck's eyes widened, "REALLY? I mean uhm... really?" He asked with giddiness. "Yes really." You chuckled.
"Can you uh hold on for a second?" "Yeah sure, Hyuck."
Donghyuck proceeded to run all over the hall, doing jumps every once in a while. He was like a child that had too much energy and it made you laugh. He stopped in front of you and cleared his throat, an uncontrollable smile plastered on his face. "So what about the bandaid?"
"I just wanted to say thank you and I also want to give you this as well." You said as you handed the bag of chips and the can of coffee to the boy. "Oh it's no biggie, you didn't have to get me these. But thank you as well." Donghyuck smiled and it made your heart skip a beat.
"Let's go to a nearby cafe tomorrow after school?"
"That sounds great, Hyuckie."
"Alright I'll see you then."
He couldn't stop smiling like an idiot even after you left, leaving Mark with a lot of keyboard smashed text messages from the boy.
