Keldor & Origins Kronis
by Mattel (2021)
I picked up the Rise of Evil set on 06-24-21 at a Target.
Kronis
Origins Kronis is one of Keldor’s troops before becoming the cybernetic monster TrapJaw.
Kronis looks like a grunt soldier with an angry face and his red helmet. Pre-Trapjaw he has two blue arms, and is armed with a rifle of some kind (reminiscent of the old MOTU rifle) and wearing partial chest armor.
Kronis has an angry grimace on his face showing his teeth, and it looking. He looks like a soldier ready to fight.
The back of Kronis’ chest harness has what I think are weapons storage? I’m not really sure, to be honest considering his rifle isn’t designed to attach to any of them. Perhaps this is a subtle hint of TrapJaw’s future attachments? That’s my best guess...
Keldor/Skeletor
Keldor is the man, the sorcerer who would later become Skeletor.
He’s dressed in Skeletor’s familiar body harness with the bat on the crest painted a neon green, however this time he’s wearing a soft plastic cape, and he’s got normal (blue) human boots, and not the three-toed boots
His head sculpt is a kind of a classic villain with the sophisticated mustache, and goatee, flowing long hair and widow’s peak, and a charming, yet sinister grin.
Keldor knows he’s bad, and he’s okay with that.
Keldor’s havoc staff is the same ram skull however it’s surging with power. The plastic itself is a smoky-translucent green and the lower half is painted purple. It’s a great effect.
Keldor has an optional Skeletor head, and purple sword, also surging with power, same as the havoc staff.
The Skeletor head sculpt has a creepy grin (as if skulls can grin), and the eyes just pop with this iridescent red. There’s no light piping, but I think it’s either a reflective paint, or there’s something in the sockets.
Keldor and Kronis are fun figures, and make nice expansions for my Masters of the Universe collection.
