So, uhh, genuine question: where did this whole thing about arranged pureblood marriages come from? To be clear, I 100% understand where it came form as a fic trope, right, I enjoy it as a fic trope ngl, but people are out there poasting about the pureblood families arranging marriages like it’s Game of Thrones when the marriages we see in canon range from genuine love matches to like… the Lestranges, who clearly like each other and work as a unit even if Bellatrix is in love with Voldy — whether they fell out of love and just didn’t divorce or it's a case of marrying your bestie to escape your deranged family and further your career (in wizard terrorism), that’s still clearly driven by Bellatrix and Rodolphus’s affection for each other. (Same goes for the Malfoys — whether or not you ship ‘em romantically, they do stick together on purpose. For all that Lucius is a a villain and a jerkass, he’s not even implied to be cheating on her!) I’m totally willing to buy that an insular community that prides itself on not marrying out has a matchmaking industry, or that it’s traditional to marry your high school sweetheart, or that parents will meddle to try to get their kids together the way parents do irl, but they’re not selling girls off to secure alliances between families or whatever. How'd that migrate from fic trope to fanon??

I'd say I did nothing productive today but I think the five hours I spent drawing up an organized version of the Black family tree that branches off and includes the Potter, weasleys, longbottoms, love goods, etc, was very productive of me

How are the death eaters handling the current situation? Are any of them staying at your manor? Are you enforcing your own quarantine? -M

They are handling it with various amounts of maturity. 

No one is staying with me, thank Merlin. 

The Malfoys seem to have a houseful of guests. It seems to be the opposite of what the prevailing medical advice is at the present, but they insist they are all “quarantining” together.

The Lestranges are clamoring to reopen Diagon Alley. They are apparently quite bored in their manor being waited on by servants, and would rather throw a tantrum. 

The Rosiers have had so many take-away owls delivering to their house one would think their kitchen elf was dead. I think they’re all sleeping until noon as well - I cannot get a reply owl from them any earlier.

There is a long line of healers in the Avery family, so I haven’t heard from many of them since this situation set in. I do not envy them; I imagine St. Mungos is quite busy at this time.

All in all, everybody seems to be...coping.

Bash could usually be found in the pub on most weeknights. One had to look no further than wherever the ruckus was happening, and Rabastan could often be found in the middle of it. 

Tonight at the ‘Witches’ Peak,’ he was in the middle of a very offensive card game. And winning it too, if he didn’t have to get up to get another drink. It was in this space between plays that he spotted Rodolphus. 

“Brother!” He cried cheerily, in clear good spirits with a pocket full of winnings. “One more, Miss,” he raised a finger so the barmaid would pour another glass for his older brother. “Cheers!” He raised his drink up to meet Rodolphus’. 

After gulping it back healthily he continued, “You know, I’m not angry you didn’t come to see my play the other night.” He wagged a finger at his brother’s chest, the smirk on his face cutting any chance of a touchy-feely conversation between them. 

“I am however quite upset that you missed perhaps the greatest performance of Hamlet wizard-kind has ever seen!” he added with a laugh. It hadn’t been a big deal to be cast as the lead. It also hadn’t been a big deal that it was a sold out show, nor that he’d arranged for 3 seats in the front row for his family–– none of which came. He told all of this to himself and the other inquiring cast members because the truth wasn’t one anyone wanted to hear. 

Next to the Dark Lord, in his eyes Shakespeare was perhaps the greatest wizard to have ever lived. Although there was still significant debate about the poet’s lineage, Rabastan couldn’t conceive of anything other than a wizard, capable of such beautiful soliloquies and limericks. 

“You’re looking unusually moody today,” he teased.

Ok wait....If Leta’s brother was supposedly “the last” of the Lestranges then...what...how doe this give with Rodolphus and Rabastan’s existence?  Who did Bellatrix marry? (And we know it can’t be via the maternal line through Leta for obvious reasons.) I feel like I’m not seeing something simple...

Of course Leta thought that Dumbledore hated her. Like she accidentally killed her sibling and there is no way that Dumbledore hadn't guessed that and there is absolutely no way that it hadn't touched a nerve considering that happened to Ariana. Like i can imagine Dumbledore looking at her with these sad eyes and thinking 'and SHE considers herself guilty sweet thing' and becoming moody and even angry perhaps.

Leta could have easily confuse it for hatred or dislike.
