so, quick thing about theater etiquette:
I was lucky enough to get to see Hadestown on broadway the other night and it was AMAZING, but my favorite song (our lady of the underground) was completely ruined by the man next to me being on his phone for the ENTIRE. FUCKING. THING. he also took a photo with flash, and had his phone on during the (QUIET, DARK, SUSPENSEFUL) ending the moment there was a second of stillness.
this is a friendly reminder (from someone who’s been onstage, in audiences, and in tech) that everyone who’s there worked really fucking hard to get there, be it talent or the expensive tickets. this also isn’t just a thing you can easily see again like if we were in a movie theater. if you miss it, you need to watch either an illegal recording or watch the entire show again.
when we say phone off and away, phone goes OFF and AWAY. INTO the bag, silent mode ON, notifications OFF. if you must use your phone step out into the lobby. no photos, esp flash photography, and if you do not abide by these rules myself and the phantoms of these operas will feed your bones to the understudies.
tl;dr: have some basic respect for live theater please and thank you
