BEYOND:
LOVE? HATE? DO/DON’T FEEL STRONGLY ABOUT?:
I always have and always will love Beyond!! I first learned about him through fanfics and then bought the book myself and couldn’t stop laughing at him the entire way through. I identified with him immediately and strongly, and that’s probably an embarrassing admission considering what a dumb-butt he is in most ways, but sigh it’s true. It’s not like he’s even THAT amazingly well-written or anything? But he’s just hilarious and kind of tragic to imagine as a child and can be made surprisingly complex when you flesh him out a bit more, too. Also, I love that you can never know for sure if he’s being himself or L most of the time. Either way is really funny, and can often have some very odd implications depending on which way you spin it.
FAVOURITE TRAIT:
I LOVE how stupidly competitive and insecure he is! My god it’s funny. The way he literally tries to become people he envies in a super sly/passive-aggressive way and how EXTREME he is about needing to outdo L in every regard. It’s very cartoonish, but also like… I know those feels well, and that sucks, my dude.
FAVOURITE MOMENT/EVENT FOR THIS CHARACTER:
I have a lot of them, but it always kills me when Naomi steps on his belly by mistake. And then he keeps bringing it up to guilt her again afterwards. He’s so friggin’ mopey, lmao

I want to be as shameless as B! Think of the freedom…. actually no, that’s probably not a good thing.

I fell in love with him as soon as he crawled out from under the bed

MATSUDA:
LOVE? HATE? DO/DON’T FEEL STRONGLY ABOUT?:
I really like Matsuda and I always have! I believe I thought he was a bit more of a pure cinnamon roll my first time through the series, as I definitely noticed a few more obnoxious parts of his character the second time through, but I think overall he’s one of the most relatable characters in the series and that his role is super important to the story. I love the way he is the most trusting and sympathetic to Kira all throughout and constantly questioning the impact of things like that; I specifically remember really identifying with his doubts about Kira’s evilness the first time I watched the anime as a teen, and wishing that the characters had debated the pros and cons of Kira’s particular brand of justice a little bit more rather than immediately deeming it evil and shutting down everyone else who tried to disagree.
FAVOURITE TRAIT:
I love how enthusiastic and light-hearted he is, it’s a nice addition to the very serious tone the series often has.
FAVOURITE MOMENT/EVENT FOR THIS CHARACTER:
I think his most powerful moment is definitely when he shoots Light in the warehouse, even though it’s a hard scene for me to watch.
ONE POWER/ATTRIBUTE OF THIS CHARACTER I WANT FOR MYSELF:
I wouldn’t mind being as outgoing as Matsuda is sometimes!

Nope, I don’t think so. If I ever did it’s maybe only because of that one panel where he’s sticking out his ass like a sexy Obata girl lol

I loved him the first time through and the second time through I really appreciated his presence a lot, but also was sometimes like “ok Matsuda that’s pretty immature” lol
OTP FOR THIS CHARACTER:
I don’t really ship him a lot with anyone, now that I think about it! I think LightxMatsuda might be funny in a bit of a shitty way, like if Light was being manipulative and coming onto him for some reason? But idk, I don’t feel too strongly about any Matsuda ships
