Anole meets up with his friends for a funeral of a nameless young mutant. Not only that there are the annoying anti-mutant bigots picketing at the site, there are also a group of mutants led by Caliban who show up at the funeral too. Anole follows Caliban's group to the underground where he sees not only the Morlocks, there are also the Arakki mutants such as Sobunar and Loolo Marshall.

Seeing Sobunar and Loolo turn up in NYX, complete with all the Ewing/Hickman allusions and the return of the Krakoan language, was the most excited I've gotten for anything in the x-men relaunch. For so many weeks it's come across like the new office was determined to sweep everything from the previous era into the dustbin. Instead I think this is a very natural continuation from where X-Men Red left Sobunar, after his forced complicity in Genesis' war.

And I think Kelly & Lanzing made an inspired choice in selecting Anole as the issue's viewpoint character, allowing him to be our introduction to the new Arakii backed Morlock community. When you look at all of our other focus characters, throughout both this book and all of the others, they're all individuals who were in some fashion or another estranged from the general community of Krakoa. He's the only one of them who can really speak to full depth of loss that characters who weren't X-Men must have endured since the Hellfire Gala.

Along with Uncanny, X-Force, and Exceptional, the outlines of a direction to the new era is finally starting to emerge. It's still not the Dawn of X by any means, but we're at least seeing these new creative teams increasingly engaging with the core themes of grief and diaspora, when at times it had looked fearfully like our stories and the characters populating them had been chosen by dart board.

The Mutants on Earth and Planet Arakko have their mixed feelings during a holiday season. Kamala Khan is forced to hide her mutant identity in school even though she doesn't celebrate Christmas as she is a Muslim. The grieving Wolverine pours his beer for the fallen mutants at the grave. Iceman snuggles up with his Inhuman boyfriend, Romeo, in somewhere else. Sunspot on Planet Arakko is worried over Richard Rider's dire condition. The Arakki Mutants are excited for Blood Dawn the festival in Arakko where they fight each other in sparring matches every year to settle their old conflicts. Craig Marshall the token human from NASA stops Loolo and Kobb from fighting. So instead he comes up with another idea - having first turkey dinner on Arakko.

Meanwhile, Orchis the Anti-Mutant organization are baffled when they find that Santa Claus is a mutant on the Mutant Detector Radar.

Kamala Khan and Anole see a group of mutants led by Caliban attending and leaving the unofficial funeral for a nameless mutant. Anole follows Caliban's group to the sewers where he sees not only the Morlocks, there are also the Arakki mutants such as Sobunar and Loolo Marshall. At the memorial site, Kamala is called up by her brother Aamir, who reminds her that she is supposed to be attending the class. Sophie Cuckoo asks whether she could use her telepathy on Aamir but Kamala tells her to play it cool. Aamir Khan is worried about Kamala attending the so-called illegal mutant gathering as he heard news talking about it. However, Kamala's cousin Bilal, shows some disdain (though not knowing that Kamala is a Mutant-Inhuman) when he says insensitive remarks about mutants and also, Cousin Bilal is part of the anti-mutant group (as you can see the small logo badge on his vest). Sophie Cuckoo gets angry with Cousin Bilal that she tells him off and she uses her telepathy to force him to leave the place. Aamir Khan tells his cousin that they must leave the place as well he reminds his sister Kamala to attend the class. As the girls watch the two young men leave, Sophie Cuckoo explains to Kamala that her bigoted cousin is not the only one she should be worried about, it is the anti-mutant group called the Truthseekers who are watching and tracking Anole's movements.

Meanwhile in the Sewers, Anole is talking to Caliban and his group when he gets a telepathic warning from Sophie Cuckoo that the Truthseekers are going to attack them. Before he could do anything, Anole and the mutants are suddenly attacked by the Truthseekers who are now wearing the armor and carrying weapons. Fortunately, the three girls - Kamala Khan, Sophie Cuckoo and Laura Kinney arrive on time to help Anole and the mutants to fight off the Truthseekers. After defeating the Truthseekers, the girls are deciding what to do with the attackers. Laura wants to kill the attackers but Kamala refuses to let her do it. Thus, Sophie uses her telepathy to do a psychic lobotomy on the Truthseekers and she forces them to leave the tunnels.

How Craig Marshall of NASA met Storm

Craig Marshall is a human NASA scientist who spent one month living on Mars doing research and studying the results of Krakoan terraforming process in the planet of Arakko. While studying the terraformed planet, he eventually warmed up to the Arakki mutants and a few Krakoan mutants on Mars since the former (Arakki) saw him as a kindhearted researcher, not a threat. During the Judgment Day storyline, Arakko-Mars was attacked by Uranos the Eternal. Craig tries to evacuate the Arakki children to safety but they refused to leave as they rather stand their ground to defend the land and fight off the Eternal Death Machines. Then, Storm arrives along with Lactuca the Knower and Sobunar of the Depths, to fend off the Eternal Death Machines. As he watched from the ground, Craig was impressed with Storm's bravery and beauty.

Some time later, Craig has a date with Storm on Arakko-Mars. Craig Marshall also mentioned that his favorite superheroes were Night Thrasher and Storm. Unfortunately, the date was cut short when Charles Xavier interrupted it with a telepathic call to Storm.
