Love Square Prompt #1
Amelia (name changeable) is obsessed with a certain otome game. She plays it whenever she gets home from work, and her spirits are lifted whenever she sees her favorite character's face (and dialogue). He's just too perfect!! Except he's not dateable. No route or nothing. And his shop isn't accessible unless she owns game currency! So of course, Amelia suffers through doing another character's route to gain coins.
Vern, bartender and general-goods shop clerk, is an NPC. Not that he minds. The world he lives in feels real, and he won't let others tell him otherwise. "Cold, aloof, and has a special something for the florist in the next-door shop" was Vern's description but now it's "Annoyed, and wishing player 34 (Amelia) just disappeared. She's making all their lives miserable!! (Mostly him, but it hurts Marigold and Richard too!!)
Richard is one of the romanceable characters in this unnamed otome game. He's a kind and trustworthy knight of the town, and old people absolutely adore him!! He has stolen many hearts in this town, most of the time unknowingly, including a certain florist. But it's hard to tell whether he likes someone or not, since he's sweet and kind to everyone. But when Richard falls in love, he falls hard. (He likes passionate, bold women)
Candle-lit dinners, your favorite flowers tied in a bow along with a few of your favorite snacks, and custom love songs made just for you. He would court you in a quite old-fashioned way, serenading you outside your window. Who knew that man was so good with words, seeing as he fumbled and jumbled when you both first met. He would give you the world, if he could, and he has already given you his whole heart.
Marigold is the town's florist, sweet and soft-spoken. She's good friends with the tavern's barkeeper, Vern. She also has quite a huge crush on Richard, the knight. Game-wise, she's necessary to enter the 'Marriage' event for each route, though her flowers could also increase your romance stats. When marrying Richard, Marigold would greet you with her normal line ("I wish you both the very best"), but instead of the regular happy smile, her eyes are downturned, and you could see tears in them. Also, there's an extra line where she mentions that she's glad that he finally met the love of his life, despite it not being here (despite it never being her).
TL; DR: Otome game player loves Unromanceable character who loves NPC 1 who loves Otome game LI who loves Otome game player

A very happy birthday to Florinda Bolkan!
Don’t be a Square like him! *Points at Love square*
Be a Circle like me! *One bend arrow pointing to Marinette and one bend arrow pointing to Damian*
Besides, Squares aren’t straightforward like me!
Sure, I don’t have a straight line and Squares have too many, but at least I know who is getting together quicker!
However....I do give props to Square for including whoever they want to be a square of!
Square can have so many straight lines that they turn into me and be a circle with no straight line!
The circle of crushes ends and the biggest secret of Sarah J Mass is revealed
Love Square (Otome) excerpt
Today was a good day. There was a steady stream of customers in the tavern, and none of them were the types to flip tables or shout at everyone or try to run away without paying. The only downside was that it was so busy, he hardly saw Marigold all day.
'But it was worth it', Vern thought, looking at the massive pile of Celestin coins in front of him, a month's worth of money. Good thing adventurers were always thirsty for beer (and information). And they hardly ever haggle. Overall, today was a good day. Vern could only hope nothing could ruin it, as he started closing shop. Why do taverns close so early? Well, it was necessary for Vern's sanity. As he locked the door, Vern lets out a sigh of relief, for he knew that their security is top-notch, and that no one (especially that blasted player) could enter the premises once it's closed.
Suddenly, the air in the tavern began to change. Reality was splitting in half and meshing together over and over, and a blinding ball of light formed in its between. It was the most terrifying sight, to those not used to it. Vern merely sighed.
"Vern!", said a loud shrill voice, and the glowing figure ran toward him. Vern recoiled. How did she get through the sleep screen? As far as he knew, Amelia (player 34) didn't know a single line of code. Before Vern could think any further, Amelia wrapped her unreal arms around him. "My dear, forgive me", she cried aloud.
Vern pried himself off the clingy maiden, and went back to the front desk (?) of the tavern. "What can I do for you", said Vern, in his regular monotonous customer service voice, though his face held a frown.
Amelia took a seat in front of him. Vern took a step back. "My dear", she began, though Vern already started zoning out her voice. "Please know that my heart belongs solely to you. I only do Richard's route because his gives the most Celestins, and I cannot enter the tavern without any."
Vern knew this already, as she had done Richard's route 3 times. But each and every time, she comes to the tavern to apologize (and to gush about how much she loves Vern). In all honesty, Vern pitied Richard. Richard was a trustworthy man, kind to those around him and takes his duty as town knight very seriously. Yet somehow, he is being toyed around by a woman whom Vern believes is lacking intellectual capacity.
Richard speaks very highly of player 34 (Her name is Amelia, in this round), and Vern knew how deeply Richard loved her. Richard was a fool, a lovestruck fool, who couldn't see that someone truly loved him, someone who is as kind and good and sweet as him, whose smile mirrored the morning sun and whose hair shined brighter than gold. He couldn't see that he captured the heart of the perfect girl. But because of his foolishness, Vern still had a chance with Marigold, so Vern held mixed feelings for the situation.
Vern remembered how in the previous round, Richard talked about player 34 with Vern. He spoke about how admirable she was and how his love for her ran deeper than the Ghari Ravines. Naturally, Vern tuned it out (after all, she would eventually dump him anyways).
That was, until Richard mentioned that despite being engaged to player 34, he felt like the love she held for him was not completely genuine. Vern was reminded that, despite the only one bearing memories of previous rounds, everyone was as real and alive as he was. And he pitied Richard, who he now considered a real friend.
Richard's instinct was correct, since she did run away and didn't attend her own wedding (event), as she had always done. Vern remembered the world restarting, and her promising to never marry anyone in this world until Vern gets his own route (Vern quickly snatched his hands out of hers). Suffice to say, Vern made sure no such dlc would ever be compatible to this device. He also brought free beer for Richard, despite him not remembering anything. After all, they were friends (even if he doesn't remember).
After about three hours, "Amelia" finally left. Vern lets out a sigh of relief. He had to talk to the upper boss about being hacked and upping security. Of course, by upper boss, he meant the game developer, who also lived in this town as a barber. "Well, I'll just tell him tomorrow", thought Vern, who was being beckoned back home by his comfortable bed.
Vern opened the door, his only thought being on going home, when Marigold (who was sleepily leaning on it) fell on the floor. Vern couldn't hide his surprise (and delight) at seeing Marigold here so late at night. Vern's heart melted at the thought of her waiting for him, despite how late it is, and how she had trouble falling back asleep.
Vern couldn't bite back the smile forming in his face. Somehow, Marigold always brought the best out of him. He was truly lucky to have someone as amazing as Marigold as his best friend. (Vern ignores how his heart wanted more).
Marigold rubbed the back of her head, which suffered a bump because of the sudden fall, oblivious to the flurry of thoughts invading Vern's mind. She gives him a serene half-awake smile, and asks "good morning?"
"What're you doing here? It's past 12", said Vern, trying his best to act strict with her (and failing). "Waiting", she replied. "I promised we'd walk home together, remember?"
"But you value a good night's sleep, don't you?" Vern asked, knowing that Marigold has problems falling asleep past 10. "I value you more", said Marigold. Vern's heart soared, despite his mind knowing better. "You are my most precious friend", continued Marigold. Vern continued smiling, though this one was a bit more strained, a bittersweet feeling made home in his chest.
"Thanks for waiting for me", said Vern. He looks back into the tavern. "But I have a surprise for you tomorrow". 'Why wait for tomorrow' was Marigold's reply. And with that, they both entered the tavern.
Giggles are heard throughout the night. Vern showed her the newest concoctions, made of the flowers she's given to him. She tells him stories her customers told her, and he listened patiently. They played truth or dare, like little kids. And then, Marigold felt a yawn coming out of her mouth. There ends their playful adventure.
The manager arrived at 5am. She sees her two favorite children (read: npc), in the corner booth, asleep and cozily snuggled. The manager poofed a blanket into reality and placed it on top of them.
(Vern panicked upon waking up)
LOVE CIRCLE / METTI UNA SERA A CENA (1969) - ENNIO MORRICONE MOVIE POSTERS AND MUSIC (Part 38/40)
We can’t mention the music of il Maestro ENNIO MORRICONE without praising EDDA DEL’ORSO, whose sublime voice and wordless vocals made his soundtracks as haunting as they are beautiful. Proof with my favorite track of hers for the 1969 comedy Metti una sera al cena.
