You're not writing an encyclopedia. You're writing fiction. Trust yourself and trust your reader.

Batman: Killing Time

A bank is robbed. Killer Croc is putting on a show, but there's clearly more to it when a single box from a certain vault vanishes, and the Riddler and Catwoman go on the run. And it's a box Batman knows all too well...

This event is very fun, and also non-linear in a way that informs the finale. It's not told straight-out, there's moments that jump back and forth in time to give you an event out of sequence or context, or provide greater context later on. In addition, there's also a story being told about a play, and what the play was based on, and a small box that everyone will kill to possess. They get the math wrong sometimes (accidentally setting the main story in 2102 at one point) but that's hardly fair, writers aren't expected to be good at math.

The book on its own is fun, but I also have to give a shout out to David Marquez, the artist for this book, as his touch elevates everything in here from merely great into excellent. Fast and lethal when it needs to be, but lasting just long enough to let moments impact you, with expressive characters and designs that are just oh-so-delicious. There were moments where I stopped reading and just admired the artwork for what it added to the story.

This book was great. It's self-contained, earlier in the Dark Knight's career (so you don't have to worry about canon that much) and tells a story around a fascinating little MacGuffin with a twist at the very end. And at only six issues, it'll take you an hour to read.
