“Guys?”, y/n voiced through the nearly empty Grill.
Jo and Kai struggled against their bonds, crying out to the young woman but they and the still unconscious Alaric and tied down Elena and Damon were concealed with magic.
Y/n couldn't see anyone. Except for the one man, standing with his back to her.
“Um, hello?”, y/n called out, looking around for her friends. Or whatever they were.
Jonah turned around, pretending to be surprised to see her. “Oh, hello, y/n! How are you?”
Y/n knew his face. She had seen it on the pictures of the Parker family. Jonah Parker. The man who killed her. And then resurrected her and whatever.
“I know who you are”, y/n spat out. “You're Kai and Jo's father. You're the one who killed me.”
“Yes, of course. But you see it was actually your fault. You just had to throw yourself in front of that monster.”, Jonah said angrily, walking towards the woman.
“And now, now you just had to come back to him.”
“What do you want from me?” Her voice was surprisingly steady.
“And where are my friends?”Jonah chuckled.
“Oh your friends? Come on, y/n. Think about it. Jo told you to come here, Damon tried to kill you. Do you really think they're your friends?”
“They left you, girl. All of them.”
Y/n shook her head. No, that couldn't be true.
“So I give you a chance. Either you leave now and never come back or… I'll make sure you never leave this room again. This time permanently.”
“Why?”, y/n whispered. Why would he want for her to leave so badly?
“You see, my son is a monster, an abomination. And somehow, he loves you. I don't know why, but he does. He doesn't deserve something good in his life. He doesn't deserve you.” Jonah sat down in a chair.
“I thought resurrecting you after he was imprisoned would be fine, he thought you dead and you couldn't remember him. You would have been separated forever.” The old man frowned, his voice turning angry. “But then Kai got out, somehow, at the same time you started to work here. And you know, I can't give him that. Being with you.”
“That's why I put the spell on you, you can't be near him for long without dying. But of course my daughter found a way to get rid of that spell, so now you have the choice”, Jonah looked at y/n closely. “You either leave for good or you die.”
Y/n couldn't think, her head hurt and even though she couldn´t really remember Kai she remembered how safe and normal she felt in Kai's presence and how right it felt to be at his side. Her mind was a mess, thinking about the ultimatum and her friends and Kai.
“I don't have all day, girl!”, Jonah growled.
With a flick of his wrist, y/n flew to him, his hand enclosing around her neck. And suddenly everything came back to her.
“Come here!”, Kai laughed, running after y/n.
The girl screamed giggling, jumping over a tree stump and towards the water.
Still laughing, the young man picked her up, throwing her over his shoulder.
“No, no, no! I'm sorry, Kai!”, y/n shouted, not really meaning it, as he started wading into the water.
“That's what you're getting for making my t-shirt wet!”Kai grinned, jumping underwater with y/n in his arms.
The memory flashed before her eyes. For a millisecond she saw Jonah, holding her neck and looking at her furious, then another memory shot through her head.
“Kai! What are you doing here?”, y/n called out, walking to the man, sitting at the tree in y/n's garden.
“Nothing”, Kai murmured, turning away from her. The last thing he needed was her seeing the big bruise on his arm.
“Oh my God”, y/n gasped. “What happened with your arm?”
Kai cursed inwardly. Of course she noticed.
“Kai, was it your father again?”, she sat down next to him, gripping his hand.
“No, I- I fell down the stairs.”, the young man lied. Well he did fall down the stairs, but because of his father's magic and not as an accident.
“Kai”, she sighed. “You have to go to the police with that.” He shook his head, letting go of her hand.
“No, y/n. It's nothing.” How was he supposed to tell the police that his father abused him with his magic because he was born without it? They would just think he was crazy.
“It's OK, y/n. Don't worry so much”, he laughed lightly, brushing her hair over her shoulder.
“I'll always worry about you.”
Millions of memories flashed before her eyes in the matter of seconds. And then suddenly it stopped. Just as abruptly as it had started.
Y/n gasped as she gained conscience again. Still in the Grill. Still in the grip of Jonah Parker.
“Let me go, you monster”, she snarled, spitting into his face. He flinched, wiping the saliva away.
“Oh, you remember now, don't you?”, Kai's father laughed maniacally. “Right, the touch of the person who did the spell. I should have taken a more difficult spell”, his grip tightens and y/n choked.
“No, I should have never resurrected you.”
Y/n grinned wickedly. “But you did.” Kicking him in the groin, Jonah let her go and she fell to the floor. She stood up and made a run for the door.
“Motus”, Jonah mumbled and the young woman flew through the room, crashing against the wall.
“Well yes, girl, I did. But I can reverse that. And I'm going to do that.”
Coughing y/n tried to stand up, her back aching and, oh God, her head too. Chuckling she looked at Jonah who had started to say something on Latin over a flame, a knife and a dark feather in his hands.
“Which of your spells are you going to reverse”, she giggled sarcastically, leaning her head against her hands. “I lost count.”
Her head hurt so bad, she groaned, the last time her head hurt that bad she was close to- she was close to Kai.
Kai had to be here!
Looking up, y/n spotted Jo's phone laying in a corner. If Jo and the others really left her (what y/n didn't believe, not at all after getting her memories back), Jo would have taken her phone after she lured y/n here. At least Jo and Kai were still here. Somewhere here.
“Oh, all of them, girl. That way you can be near Kai”, Jonah smiled cruel. “When you die. Because you will. Reversing the spells will put you back to how you were before I wasted my magic on you.”
Y/n gaped as Kai's father continued the spell.
No! She couldn't die! Not now. Not when she finally remembered Kai. She couldn't leave him again, couldn't leave the man she loved again.
Crawling over the floor, y/n neared a knife that had fallen from a table. She had to stop him. Gripping the knife she flung it at him, already weakened from the hit and the curse.
It hit Jonah in the thigh, not exactly deep, though. The old man cursed, pulling it out and then continued talking on Latin.
Y/n cried out, something had to stop him! She couldn't die! The young woman screamed in pain, her bones aching and her blood feeling as if it was on fire.
“It's nearly done”, Jonah smiled. Y/n whimpered, her limbs giving in.
Falling to the ground, her body convulsed. It hurt so bad! Make it stop! It had to stop! A scream tore through the room, her scream. She couldn't think straight, make it stop!
Suddenly there was a sickening crunch. Through her tears, y/n saw Jonah.
With the leg of a chair in his chest.
He fell to the floor, blood gushing out of the wound. Behind him stood Kai, looking panicked around the room, trying to find y/n.
“Kai!”, she whimpered, catching his attention. He ran towards her, the rest of the group suddenly appearing behind them.
After Kai was able to break the magic chains he got the others free and now where Jonah was laying on the ground with a hole in his chest, his magic was to weak to hold the cloaking spell.
“Y/n, are you okay?”, he gasped, looking for wounds.
Before she could answer, Jonah chuckled. His chuckling turned into laugh, as he laid there, bleeding out. Not one of his children doing something to help him.
“I've finished it. She's as good as dead”, he grinned maliciously before there was another crunch.
With a swift hand movement Damon snapped his neck.
“God , he was really getting on my nerves.”
Y/n cried out, her body shaking, catching everyone's attention.
Blood seeped through her shirt. Pushing it up, Kai saw the scar his father had left on her years ago. But it had reopened. Completely. It looked the same as the night he killed his family.
Jo ran to them, trying to heal the woman with her magic but nothing helped.
“I'm sorry, I'm so sorry”, Josette sobbed, clutching y/n's hand.
“It's- it's ok- it's ok”, she gasped, her limbs still uselessly flaming around. Blood was seeping not only out of her stomach but also out of her mouth, she couldn't breathe.
Y/n heard Kai scream at Elena and Damon to give them their blood until Jo stopped him, it wouldn't be able to help her anyway. It went silent, only y/n's gasps and groans filling the room as she fought for her life. Kai's tears mixed with her blood as he cried silently, stroking her cheek.
“I love you”, he whispered. Y/n looked at him disoriented, sputtering blood and clawing at the ground as the pain took over her body.
“I should have told you all those years ago.”
His hand was holding her head still, while Jo held her arms, trying to keep her from hurting anyone in her state.
“I love you.” Her convulsing body went still, head falling to the side as Kai cried out, shaking her. He had lost her. Again.
They were all sitting in the Salvatore living room, three days after incident at the Grill and y/n's death.
They had waited for the ambulance to come and had visited her in the morgue.
Kai agreed to the deal soon afterwards. He would leave Mystic Falls forever. After y/n's funeral.
Jo and Kai planned it, being y/n's only friends. It would be on Sunday and Kai made sure that y/n would have loved her funeral.
When they were younger, 18 he remembered, they had talked about their funerals and made a pact that whoever still lived at the others funeral had to hold some awesome, dramatic speech.
Kai wasn't able to do that at her first funeral but he would at this one.
The group had already planned the decorations and the guest, even though the guest only consisted of Kai and Jo, Alaric, Elena and Damon, Caroline and Stefan (who y/n never met) and y/n's roommate and her neighbor.
Telling the last two the news was hard and Jo and Alaric had to do it, Kai locking himself in his apartment right after her death.
“Chocolate or Vanilla?”, Jo asked, planning the cake that would be served at the funeral.
“Did you even know her?”, Kai laughed sadly, flipping to some magazine.
“Chocolate.”, he answered just as Jo's phone ringed.
Picking up, Jo turned around, quietly talking with whoever was on the other line.
“Who was that?”, Kai asked disinterested, throwing the magazine on the table, he didn't really read it anyway.
“The morgue.”, Jo stated, her eyes wide.
“Y/n is alive.”
