Spock: The introduction was simple, friendly, and involved a bit too much physical touch
Spock: However, the most fascinating (and bewildering) part was when we attempted to take our leave
Spock: We stood to go but continued talking, so fervently so that it took nearly an hour to exit the door
Spock: Jim congratulated me on my "first Midwestern goodbye"
Spock: I fear the implications of him calling it my "first"
midwesterners are so weird bc leaving a friend or family members home takes like 10 minutes if you’re lucky but an hour or upwards if you arent
like dude, let me just leave please. If you want to stay and talk, stay and talk inside, I don’t want to converse outside in the godawful weather, I want to go home
Fellow Midwesterners, particularly rural ones—do you find yourselves lingering on in conversations with friends long after things should have concluded because no one wants to be the one who cuts things off?
Or is this something unique to my circle? We call it the Midwestern good bye.
I am drained as all get out and my parents are midwestern goodbye-ing with their friends that stress me out. Fam- I WANNA GO! WE CAME TO THE DOOR 10 MINUTES AGO!!!
Today’s midwestern goodbye only lasted 8 minutes!
I never feel more connected to my roots than when I leave a midwest gathering. 🤷♀️
Thanksgiving in Minnesota at my parents’ house can be summed up by the epic Midwestern Goodbye my step brother initiated right after the meal, that extended through dessert, and all the way out the door an hour later making many promises to stop by the next day for turkey sandwiches.
