Hello there! I wanted to ask if you had any thoughts on the mikkian species at all more specifically what culture or country they could've been based on? And so what accent they have if they have one. I.e how Aayla seems to have a French accent. Feel free to ignore this I've just been going through the different sw species and got curious and thought of your metas! :))
Not gonna lie, I'm terrible at identifying accents, so I have no ideas what theirs is supposed to be. (Also, Imma let you in on a secret: Aayla doesn't actually have a French accent, Aayla has a fake French accent x) the way bad guys in American spy movies have a fake Russian accent.)
We know next to nothing about Mikkians, apart from the fact that they apparently valued honor, discipline, kinship and integrity, to the point of being seen as rigid and even rude sometimes. (x) That could apply to quite a few people tbh. Honestly, I don't think they were based on any real country or culture, with how little they were developed. They're just another generic cool looking alien race as far as I can tell.
If we're talking headcanons, then given their bright colors, melodic language, and almost bird-like appearance (Tiplar and Tiplee always remind me of tropical birds, and sometimes even tropical fish), I can see their planet Mikkia being lush and green. Maybe mostly atolls with not too dense rainforests. There's nothing that supports this but this right here is the vibes I'm getting.
From the wookieepedia description their head-tendrils seem to have kind of the same properties as Nautolan headtresses and Twi'lek headtails, so I could see Mikkian being an offshoot of either, or even some hybrid species.
The fact that Tiplar and Tiplee were both sent to the Jedi could indicate that family is a big thing to them.
(They have matching outfits with the colors swapped. It's cute.)
Idk. I like to imagine that the blue markings are a religious thing, but that the pattern itself is exclusive to them - kinda like Mirialan tattoos. Beyond that, I think their blue lips, blue eyelids and blue nails might me make-up (probably like the blue markings?).
That's all I've got on Mikkians. I don't know, I'm not that great at worldbuilding, especially for species. I know there's a post on tumblr somewhere breaking down the possible science behind Twi'lek skin colors, and one time I spent like two days trying to understand how a human could possibly adapt to a vegetarian copper-rich diet, but I'm not that interested in plausibility in Star Wars to do that here.
I really love Mikkians for their design though, and Tiplar and Tiplee have a soft spot in my heart. Gotta love me some Jedi twins 🧡

BIOLOGY
• The head-tendrils are incredible sensory organs. Canonically, they sense humidity, temperature, magnetic direction and radiation.
• The head-tendrils are also used to sense emotions and detect/release pheromones. They are susceptible to the pheromones of many other species.
• Mikkians experience migraines, malaise, and brain fog in urban areas. Their senses are weakened and overwhelmed. Some mikkians adapt to the electromagnetic smog. Others are born into it and find rural areas jarring (like an anechoic chamber).
• A common galactic misunderstanding is that all mikkians are Force sensitive because of their special "sixth sense".
• The head-tendrils vent heat from the body. On Mikkia, the species had to evolve with more surface area than humans to cool down.
• Mikkians do not sweat.
• In cold climates, mikkians lose their body heat faster unless they cover up their tendrils (muffling their senses). Frostbite sets in fast.
• Sound-based weapons can permanently damage tendrils. Damaged tendrils no longer float.
• Intersex mikkians are more common than in most near-human species. It occurs in approximately 30% of the population. Many intersex mikkians can both reproduce and fertilize.
PLANET
• Mikkia has a lower gravity and higher average temperature than Earth. It's arid and covered in drier biomes except for the temperate biomes around the poles.
• Consequently, mikkians are on average more delicate, taller, and longer-limbed than humans. There is less sexual dimorphism and overall genetic diversity (mikkians suspect their species almost went extinct thousands of years ago, leaving a small genetic pool behind even more so than other species).
• Far north and south Mikkia are extremely colorful places, but even the arid canyons and deserts have a shocking array of color in the rocks, soil, and plants (Rainbow Mountains of China, Rainbow Mountain in Peru, Painted Desert, etc.)
• Mikkian architecture is art deco and botanical, with open floor plans, communal housing, and minimal electronics. Their world has sophisticated manual technology and considers it more advanced than overeliance on smart homes and computers.
• Their city planning is elegant and effective, with circles and grids painstakingly planned before construction.
• Their civilizations tend to have little to no central government, with many parts of Mikkia being autonomous communes. Their senator in the Galactic Republic changes frequently.
• Their planet exports precious ores. Mikkian craftsmanship (clothes, tapestries, furniture, etc.) is prized around the galaxy. Their interesting flora is also sold on many cosmopolitan worlds.
• Mikkian homes are not complete without useless boxes, secret compartments, and at least one Goldberg machine.
LANGUAGE
• Their native tongues often include "tendril-speak".
• Mikkians are incorrectly called telepaths because they can glean a conversation's worth of information from each other's tendrils and pheromones.
• Written Mikkian has a traditional character system and a modern alphabet. Personal names are characters. Calligraphy is popular.
• Spoken Mikkian contains many short sounds with mild pitch dependence.
• The language is gender neutral and has complex mood and emotional tenses as well as many words for colors, natural phenomenon, emotions, and relationships. Apparently it leads to beautiful lyrics and poetry.
CULTURE
• Mikkians have no concept of gender. Outsiders say they have three genders and three sexes, but mikkian cultures do not tie meaning to genitals. (If anything, it's like three peaks on a spectrum with the middle peak both reproducing and fertilizing.)
• If a mikkian is uncomfortable with their hormone levels or genitals, they're encouraged to change them.
• Many mikkians prefer bartering with items and favors to using currency. Bartering systems are still popular on Mikkia after some disastrous recessions.
• Names hold vast meaning in a few condensed syllables. Their names exist in personality groups similar to horoscopes that predict their role in society or influence their destiny. (Many modern parents just pick aesthetically pleasing names.)
• Polyamory and large family units are common. A child with only two parents may be seen as neglected, similar to human biases against single parents.
• Whoever gave birth traditionally passes on the family name.
• Touching another mikkian's tendrils is strictly taboo. It's a special category of assault.
• Mikkians travelling or born offworld are noted for having large personal bubbles, as it's polite and the best way to avoid violations of privacy and sanctity.
• This taboo only relaxes in close relationships. Even then, it's a significant gesture. Some mikkian cultures bar public tendril touching even if its familial.
Disclaimer: Mikkia has a wide variety of unique cultures. The homogenization involved in becoming a space-faring culture is not absolute.
Since you mentioned a special liking for Mikkians, one of my favourite facts about them from the Knights of Fate book is that alongside their personal ethics and even society being based around the concepts of honour, loyalty, and honesty, they are also very individual because of their wide range of appearances and so tend to add makeup, rings, jewelry, tiaras, chains, etc. to their tendrils for personal effect.

I indulged 5- and a half hours of meditative painting 🫠 One rough sketch, no refs, only one brush (named Oberon from the basic brush kit of Procreate, my favorite for coloring) and I just let it grow like the corals and sea grass on the reef do 🥰 I‘m a little sea creature myself, so I feel this very much 🩵 I hope you like it!

I could never ever be finished tinkering at the details of a face when it comes to a bigger brush 🙈 It’s like polishing a stone but with the difference, that I hunt for a perfection, that I not even want to achieve. I only want to do better and then – in the middle of imperfection – there is that moment where I look at it and know „This is it. It‘s fine now.“ Not perfect, but if I would continue, it would not get better, but worse instead 😂
For feeling completely blocked at the moment a painting is maybe just else. Drawing is lines, but painting is just color and I can layer all the imperfection, insecurities and struggles in form of colored brush strokes layer over layer until the whole picture builds itself – to look at it and go like „Hey, I made a thing. And it’s a good thing.“ ☺️
Dangerous Mikkians sighted at the GAR Goth Night in the 79s clone bar in Coruscant ✨🖤
🩵 Jedi Padawan Eo looks tiny and cute, intendedly chose a pretty Victorian Goth style with a skirt of black lace layers, combined with some shimmering purple brocade corset, satin bands and gloves underlining her natural creamy turquoise skin color, that is fluorescent under the ultraviolet light, but also has a natural bioluminescence in the dark in general – the more turquoise glow on the skin of both Mikkians ✨

Eo managed to lure out her (literally) big sister, who is unamazed, but joined the very moment she saw what kind of dress her little sister is going to wear at a event full of testosterone – ignoring completely that Eo is a trained user of the Force and not impressed by the info that her whole Owl Squad 🦉 (<– artwork with 5 gothed clone troopers incoming, I lost my mind) AND the Chaos Squad vode 💥 and friends 🫶 are already there or on their way.
💙 Specialist Ayuna is a Mandalorian armorer and seems to be the direct opposite of her little sister with her dark indigo blue skin, but sharing the same turquoise skin glow, especially at the tendril tips. There is very much lore to tell, how they got separated, how Ayuna got adopted by Mandalorians and how they found each other again under craziest circumstances.
Plot is slowly forming, the writing is like a giant towering behind me, everything around The Source Code – maybe one day it'll blurt out of me 😅

I looped the very deep and melodic gothic metal song "Never Dawn" from Lacuna Coil 🎶 as I drew Ayuna's casual grungy Steampunk Goth style, because that is very much her vibe (and parts of it very much fitting to her and the others stories) 🖤
With enough Spotchka she would sing the female part together with ARC trooper Source (<- one of the incoming clones), who is kind of the actual Cyber goth in Eo's Owl Squad and would shock everybody with the ability to do metal growl singing – OMG somebody lock me up, I can see the scene, I want to draw them, I have too much WIP, I can't go on like this aaaAAAAAHH 🤪✨
