What if I told you I finally remember the secret to sleeping at night and it is stupidly simple?
The trick is to do it just a few times. Force yourself to stop going on your phone or whatever screen you use before bed, at least 1-2 hours before bed. And don't tell me "I have adhd" I have ADHD too. You can do this I promise.
Read a book in bed, under a bedside lamp, one that doesn't strain your eyes (bad for your sight to read in total dark and you'll just get a headache).
When you start to feel tired, finish your chapter and then IMMEDIATELY stop - you have sleep cycles and you have just entered one, they last 90 minutes. They are spaced out of about 80 to 100 minutes.
Try not to go to sleep later than midnight-1am AT FIRST. And by this I mean, between midnight and 1am, you should turn off the light. This is for people who usually go to sleep at 4-6 in the morning, btw. For you guys, 1am is more achievable than 11pm, and although not ideal, it is still way better than 4am.
In that same light, don't try to wake up too early (if you don't have school in the morning). 10am is fine if that's what you need. It's better than noon, even better than 2pm! Don't put your alarm too early: your brain needs time to catch up on all the sleep you have missed, it is not natural to sleep during the day and live at night, hence why you are more tired. Cut yourself some slack.
After a few days, you'll notice it gets easier to go to bed 30 minutes earlier than the previous night, and so on, and so on, same for waking up. Until, before you know it, you are asleep by 10:30pm and awake by 7:30am.
How can I maintain such a sleep schedule, you ask? Simple: once you start sleeping at night and living by day... you don't want to be awake at 3am anymore. Your brain just adapts. It simply becomes natural to go to bed when you're tired.
And know that once you'll have caught up on all that missing sleep, life will get SO MUCH EASIER to navigate. Trust me. Do this.
IF this method doesn't work for you, know that you might need to see a sleep specialist, because there exist some syndroms that make sleeping harder (insomnia, restless leg syndrom, etc) and you might be experiencing one of them. Take care of yourselves, folk, and I hope we don't meet again at 3am <3
