Aemond Targaryen X Fem!OC Fic || chapter I
“Aemond,” Eleven year old Laenora Velaryon whispered, shaking her slightly older uncle’s shoulder lightly as she stood next to his bed.
When he didn’t move she shook him a little harder and whispered his name a little louder. He stirred and rubbed his eyes before opening them and peering up at his niece in confusion.
“Laenora? What are you doing in here?” The thirteen year old prince asked.
“Get up, let’s go!” Laenora whispered excitedly.
“Go where? It’s the middle of the night.”
“It’s a surprise. Just get up.”
He groaned and got out of bed, sluggishly dressing himself before Laenora urged him to follow her.
The two of them crept silently through the halls of Dragonstone, where King Viserys, along with the queen and all of their children had come to visit.
Laenora pulled Aemond out of a secret exit, away from the dark castle and into the night.
“Seriously Laenora, where are we going? We shouldn’t be leaving the castle alone at this time of the night. If anyone finds out-“
“They won’t.” The young princess assured him and he nodded but didn’t look convinced.
Laenora kept trekking along the stoney landscape of Dragonstone while Aemond followed along silently, still looking uncertain.
Finally the two of them approached their destination and Aemond looked confused as ever they stood at the entrance of a large smoking cave of the Dragonmont.
“What are we doing here?” Aemond asked his neice.
“We’re going to find you a dragon,” Laenora answered and walked through the entrance into the smoking abyss. When she didn’t feel movement behind her she turned to see her uncle still standing outside the cave.
“Well, what are you waiting for? Come on.” She urged and he followed reluctantly.
They walked in silence for a moment as Laenora listened and searched for the beast that she’d read about many times. After some inquiring from servants and others living on Dragonstone she had learned that he is believed to reside in this very cave and she was determined to find him.
Aemond had always been ruthlessly teased by by Aegon and Laenora’s brothers all of his life for his lack of dragon. It was the reason Laenora and Aemond were such good friends, for she had no dragon either. Both of them had eggs placed in their cradles as babies and neither of them had hatched. None of the boys ever teased Laenora for it though, except maybe the occasional comment from Aegon.
Laenora hated the way the other boys treated Aemond because he didn’t have a dragon. Just recently they had pulled a cruel prank where they told him they’d found him a dragon only to present him with a pig. None of them would dare tease him again if he claimed the dragon she had in mind.
“Are you sure there’s a dragon in here? I don’t he-“ Aemond was cut off by a low growl from deeper inside the cave. Laenora shined the torch she held and watched as the flame Illuminated the monstrous beast.
He was huge and bronze-colored with large wings. His breathing nearly shook the cave. Aemond gasped quietly from beside Laenora as they both took in the size of the dragon before them.
“His name is Vermithor,” Laenora told Aemond, “Most people call him the Bronze Fury. He was ridden by King Jaehaerys I until his death and he’s been living here in this cave ever since. He’s one of the largest dragons alive.”
The dragon watched the children cautiously as they both stood a safe distance away. Aemond didn’t answer as he kept staring up at Vermithor.
“Well go on, go up to him.” Laenora urged, pushing her uncle lightly towards the large creature.
The silver-haired boy cautiously moved slowly closer to the dragon, who rose up from his laying position and growled lightly.
Aemond looked back at his niece in uncertainty and she nodded, silently coaxing him to keep going.
“Rytsas vermithor.” Aemond greeted lightly in high valyrian, holding his hand up to the dragon.
Vermithor growled again and Aemond stepped closer, flinching slightly as the beast moved his head closer to the boy’s outstretched hand.
“Dohaeragon issa vermithor.” Aemond spoke again, his hand inches away from the dragon’s face now.
Taking Vermithor’s calm demeanor as a step closer to claiming the dragon the boy smiled back at Laenora but just as he turned the beast roared loudly and angrily, sending Aemond flying back into the dirt.
The Bronze Fury opened his large mouth and both of the children felt the heat radiate from deep inside his throat, ready to spew a wall of flames.
Without thinking Laenora jumped in front of her uncle, who sat in the dirt looking wide eyed at the dragon who’d just rejected him, and raised her hand up in the air.
“Daor, vermithor! Dohaeragon issa!” She screamed at the beast.
He let out a low growl and she closed her eyes, preparing for the flames to consume her. But when they never came she opened her eyes to see the dragon had closed his mouth and moved his head closer to her outstretched hand.
Laenora let him come closer, too afraid to move and anger him. He came closer and closer slowly until finally the young princess’s hand was resting on the side of his scaled face.
She cautiously looked up into his large eye and he let out get another low growl but it didn’t sound dangerous this time.
Laenora let out a breath she didn’t know she had been holding, removing her hand away from his face as he stared down at her in wonder.
She had been so caught up in accidentally claiming a dragon that she had forgotten Aemond was even there until she heard, “How could you?”
Laenora turned towards her uncle and friend, who had gotten to his feet and was staring at her in anger.
“Did Aegon and Jace and Luke put you up to this? Did you lure me all the way out here just so I could watch you claim a dragon?!” He yelled.
“No! Aemond I brought you out here so you could claim him, I swear! I just didn’t want them to tease you anymore. I didn’t know this would happen. It was an accident.” Laenora protested, reaching out to touch his shoulder.
He jerked away, glaring at her.
Vermithor growled from behind her, already protective of his new rider.
“Ziry’s okay vermithor,” She assured him, which seemed to make Aemond even more angry.
He turned to leave and Laenora reached out again, “Aemond wai-“
“Stay away from me, bastard.” He spat at her.
She dropped her hand in hurt and disbelief. Aemond had called Jace, Luke, and even Joffrey bastards plenty of times but he’d never called her one before.
Laenora watched helplessly as he stomped away and disappeared from sight. She knew she should’ve gone after him but she couldn’t bring myself to, his insult had hurt the girl.
She wiped away a stray tear that she hadn’t noticed had escaped and turned, walking towards the rope ladder that hung down the side of Vermithor’s body, climbing it until she reached the saddle that was once ridden by King Jaehaerys I.
The princess settled into it and secured herself with the ropes before grabbing onto the handles of the saddle.
“Soves!” She shouted and Vermithor stood up at once. Laenora clutched onto the handles as tightly as I could as she was jerked around in the saddle, having never ridden a dragon before and not being accustomed to how they moved.
She continued to hold on tightly as Vermithor walked out of the cave, shaking the ground as he did so.
“Soves!” She yelled again as they left the cave and without a second thought Vermithor began to flap his wings and finally left the ground, soaring up high into the dark sky.
The sun had begun to rise by the time Laenora had instructed Vermithor to land outside the walls of the castle.
She climbed down the rope ladder and walked forward so that she could look her dragon in his eye.
“Ao gōntan sȳrī vermithor,” She praised him, rubbing her hand down his scaled cheek.
“Nyke jāhor sagon arlī tolī,” She promised before backing away and heading back toward the castle.
Well the time has come where I have found myself a new hyperfixation so of course I have to write about it. This is the first time I’ve written an OC fix since years ago back in my Wattpad days so bare with me!
Disclaimer- I am currently learning High Valyrian on Duolingo but I am nowhere close to mastering it so all of the High Valyrian in this fic will be via a translation website so I apologize if there are any mistakes. Translations will be provided at the end of each chapter.
