Muscle confusion was a bit of a fitness buzzword during the P90x era. 😅 - The concept behind “muscle confusion” is: if you perform the same exercises in the same way and order every week, your body will adapt to the routine and you will hit a plateau. - “Muscle confusion” is supposed to prevent plateau by regularly changing exercise routine, exercises performed, order, rest time, etc. etc. - In order to progress you do have to keep challenging yourself, but constantly varied exercise isn’t the driver in muscle growth. - Progressive overload is the key to muscle growth. - Adding weight and lifting progressively heavier will lead to muscle growth. - Varied exercise can be helpful in preventing overuse injuries but trying to continually vary your workouts to confuse your muscle might just leave you confused as to why you are not making progress. 😬 - Technically if you did the same routine for an extended period of time but made sure to keep upping the weight you would continue to progress. - A little variation in routine is nice to prevent boredom or injury but if you hit a plateau it’s not because you are failing to confuse your muscle 😁 - Strength training is not always the most entertaining forms of exercise but even constantly varied exercise with minimal results gets old after awhile. - Don’t change up your routine too frequently. You have to give it time. - Before changing up your workouts focus on: improving form, making sure your workout intensity is adequate and that you are recovering properly. - There are so many other variables that play a role in progress but variation is not a huge driver. Be patient. - Avoid the need to change things up to feel entertained, the most entertaining and exciting part of training is seeing progress. 💪 - #progress #muscleconfusion #progressiveoverload #fitness #fit #fitfam #health #workout #exercise #gym #bodybuilding #motivation #exercise #p90x #crossfit #strengthtraining #progress #bodybuilding #physique #workout https://www.instagram.com/p/CPGZ8WtsHE4/?utm_medium=tumblr
