Words to describe the ship ━ Caring, low-key, common interest
Song to describe the ship ━ Stay by Ateez
These two are a lot closer than people believe them to be. However, compared to the relationship Perrie has with the other Dream members, it is easy to believe these two aren't as close. However, out of all the members, Perrie is most similar to Renjun in likes and dislikes. The two share very similar hobbies and these are actually what brought them closer to one another. The two of them both really like drawing, painting, etc and they like to share and do this together because they have different techniques and ideas.
The two do not spend a lot of one on one time together but whenever Perrie was in Dream or when she was visiting the Dream members, she always made sure to take care of him and watch out for him just like she did for the other members. Since Perrie is the oldest in Dream, she feels like she has to live up to that role and take care of her members. While they all try to make it easier on her, Renjun is someone who tries to help her out the most since he is the third oldest.
When Renjun first started to get to know Perrie and when he learned about her BPD, he was a bit confused on how to act around her and it did cause some slight awkwardness but that was quickly fixed with the help of the other members. Honestly, he felt bad that she had to deal with that on top of the hate and everything she gets. Therefore, it set his resolve to help her out more.
The fans really want to the two to release a song together. They have actually gotten snippets of what seemed like a song, but nothing has ever been released or announced. However, Perrie has mentioned that she likes to use Renjun's voice for her demos - especially when it comes to slower and more emotional songs. Perrie thinks that he does a very good job at capturing emotions in a song so she likes to include him in it. They also come up with concept art together sometimes. Although, it has never been used yet but Perrie has shown previous work they've done together on Vlive.

Honestly, one of the most underrated friendships. The two have called each other their best friends multiple times. While they may not always have a lot of obvious on screen moments, if you look close enough you can see them subtly taking care of one another - especially Jeno. As a result many people have pointed out how Jeno is very tsundere like with her. Whenever she is struggling with something, he is always one of the first to help but he doesn't make a big deal of it. However, Perrie is still a very affection person and Jeno is someone who will always accept it. It is not uncommon to see Perrie leaning against him or resting her head on him.
Both have very chill personalities and are usually the more docile ones out of the Dreamies, so the two tend to be together a lot. As a result, the two have gotten very close to one another. The two tend to rant towards one another whenever they need to get something off of their chests. Whenever, this happens one person will just listen and offer the other person any type of comfort they want. This usually led to them ordering in food and watching a film until they fell asleep. He has also convinced her to play video games with him some of these times. As a result of this, the two have a very good understanding of one another and can read one another very well.
While compared to Perrie, he might not be as physically affection, but he has claimed the spot as Perrie's #1 fan. She's released a song? He's already heard it. She has a moment on stage? He's seen it. He just seems to know everything about her and keeps an eye on her even when they are not together. He constantly supporting her in both obvious and less obvious ways.
The two have multiple matching jewelrys. The main ones are their ear piercings and the rings they were on their pinky fingers. They got custom rings and made them to fit their pinky finger because they have a handshake that require them to connect them. They also tend to kiss each others rings before going on stage as a pre-stage ritual.

Song to describe the ship ━ Let me love you by Ne-Yo.
Are they dating? Or are they just best friends? With their friendship, there are time people are 50% sure there is something going on, and then the other time people are 50% sure that they are just close friends. The both are very affectionate people and Jaemin was actually one of the first members to be physically affectionate with her so he kind of broke that awkwardness between her and the rest of the boys being affectionate.
Jaemin is someone who dotes on the people he cares off, so it is not uncommon to see him dotting and taking care of Perrie. Perrie does the same but her ways seems abit more harsh. She really worries about him and his habits - especially his coffee - so she tries to make sure he is taking care of himself. She has on a few occasions where he ate nothing and tried to drink coffee, thrown away his drink when he wasn't looking. When he went on his hiatus, Perrie made sure to keep in contact with him so that he would not feel or harder any negative feelings like feeling that he was letting the other members down by not being able to promote. Then when Perrie went on her Hiatus, he wanted to do the same thing but was unsure about how to approach the situation since they were quite different.
When Perrie got back from her hiatus, there was a change in Jaemin that not many people would notice. He was obviously caring beforehand, but after her hiatus he seemed to make it his mission to keep her happy and as a result sometime he would treat her like she was younger than him. However, even if this bothered her sometimes, she tried not to say anything after she learned why he was acting this way.
One thing many fans have pointed out is the way he looks and acts towards her. Whenever she is talking or trying to get others to listen - like the dreamies - he will always give her his undivided attention. The two of them are also very unfiltered with one another. If he ever has a questions, no matter how embarrassing or personal they are, Perrie is one of the first ones he will go to.

Sometimes he is her favorite child, other times he is the annoying little brother your stuck with but still adore and would do anything for. First off do not sadden, anger, or hurt him because Perrie will not hold back on protecting him and making sure he is happy and laughing. Since he is one of the youngest of the group, Perrie feels like she needs to watch out for him and make sure the idol life isn't affecting him to much.
Perrie is someone who ends up teaching him a lot without even realizing. Perrie is someone who can be very blunt and honest, so she doesn't tend to sugarcoat many things like other people do and this has lead Chenle to learn things from her both directly and indirectly. Fans have pointed out the Chenle seemed to have adapted many of her mannerisms and way of talking, which many find quite adorable.
The two have a very pure and loving relationship. Perrie is very affectionate and Chenle is someone who will soak up her affection and is never shy about rubbing it in the other member's faces. Chenle really loves her voice and he has a playlist on her phone that is composed of just her songs or songs she was featured in. His ringtone is also one of his favorite songs that he got Perrie to sing for him.
No one know this except fo the other members, but when Perrie had to get surgery, all of the 127 members were busy so Chenle ended up staying with her almost everyday at the hospital with her. He nearly convinced her to stay at his house for a little bit but Perrie in the end said no because she did not want to intrude on his parents, even though she talks to them regularly - most to let them know about how Chenle is doing.

Song to describe the ship ━ stand by you by Rachel Platten
Perrie may not admit that she has a favorite member, but many people suspect that it is Jisung. Towards debut and before, the two of them were very close and many people noticed how he tended to stick by her. This was because she was actually the first person he met when he entered SM. However, there were some people who spun this out of control and said their friendship was odd because of the age difference. People went after Hannah calling her names because she openly cared for him - more so compared to other members - and others went after him calling him a moocher because of how he tended to gravitate towards her in a lot of situation.
However, after a few years people noticed that two were getting closer again. Whenever it comes to affection, he usually doesn't like being babied, but when it comes to Hannah that is a completely different story. She will baby him like no one else and in the end he always melts and allows it. However, it is never in a way that make him feel like a toddler, but rather just someone who Hannah adores. Like with Chenle, Hannah will do anything to make sure he is happy and not being disrespected.
There is just a difference with their friendship compared to others. They have a very soft friendship and many people notice how important their friendship is with one another. Hannah is someone who he has no problem opening up to and he really does depend on her whenever he is feeling stressed or missing his family. Hannah wants the younger members to have something similar to a childhood so she will spoil them, but especially Jisung because he is the youngest. Anything he wants, he will get. If he wants to go out at 2 in the morning and no one else will, even if she is sick or tired she will still agree.
The two of them love dancing with one another. He really looks up to her when it comes to dancing and will always ask for her input and help. He prefers when its is just the two of them together in the studio so he will always try to convince her to tell the other members to leave - since most of the time they will listen to her. People are continually asking for a video of them dancing together. The two of them joined 'Why not the dancer?" together.

synopsis: you and hendery have been best friends for 10 years. there was nothing in this world you couldn’t tell each other. but when hendery takes on the responsibility of being a crime fighting hero, there’s some risks he’s not willing to take.
Hendery will admit: the view from the top of the Empire State is something.
The way the multicolored lights of the city that never sleeps buzz under him as he patrols streets for potential danger is definitely one of the the coolest things he's ever seen.
He would like to take you up there sometime. You would like it, he thinks. Throughout your 10 year friendship, you has always been the type to appreciate beautiful things. Like that time when his aunt took the two of you to a sunflower field upstate, you wore a pretty sundress and danced in the field, pulling him along with you. The two of you laughed until you couldn’t breathe that day; it was the same day he made a promise to protect you from anything that could ever do you wrong, until the day you died. Of course, he was only 8 at the time but even now, 9 years later, Hendery has kept his promise so far. He intends to keep that promise for a long time, as Hendery and as Spider-Man.
-
It was a monday morning when you meet Spider-Man for the first time.
You had just arrived at the bus stop near you and Hendery’s houses. You don’t recall New York being this cold last year, you pull your thin cardigan closer to your body as a gust of wind meets your skin when you board the bus and take your usual seat in the first line.
Due to Hendery’s absence, you figured the only way to drown out the loud chatter of the other students on the bus is by listening to music at full volume. The music takes up the majority of your thoughts as you settle into your seat. However, about 15 minutes pass when the other students on board start gathering at the back of the bus, whispering and pointing to whatever commotion caught their eyes. You barely have any time to register what exactly is going on due to the fact that the bus suddenly jolts, causing you to grip the sides of your seat tightly to steady yourself. It stays still for a minute or two after that.
You take this time to look back the commotion, the horrific sight of the Brooklyn Bridge littered with cars that have been crushed like soda cans and small fires staring back at you. Before you could even fathom what could’ve caused such damage, the bus jolts again. Only this this time, the impact is so hard that it sends the entire bus spinning uncontrollably towards the edge of the bridge, the driver tries desperately to regain control of the vehicle, frantically swearing and gripping the wheel tighter.
When the bus starts to tip over the side of the bridge and you catch a glimpse of the water below you, your arms instinctively shield your face as you brace yourself for the impact.
Except…
It never comes.
It takes every ounce of courage left in your body for to lower your hands, the confusing (yet relieving) sight of the bus hovering above the water meets your eyes. Your eyebrows furrowed.
You hear the whispers of the frighten students, catching keywords such as ‘Spider-Man’ and ‘save’. You realize that was no other way this could possibly happen if it weren’t for the masked hero you had seen on the news so many times. Soon enough, the back exit doors open to confirm your suspicions. You still can’t help but gasp as you see him.
There, clad in red and blue, the masked vigilante who has made headlines for the last past 2 years for protecting New York City: Spider-Man.
You stare in shock as he asks if everyone is okay, even consoling the crying young girl at the back of the bus. His eyes scan the bus, as if he was searching for something. You’re already looking at him when he looks your way. The way he freezes and audibly gulps goes unnoticed by you and the brief acknowledgment of each other’s existences is broken by Spider-Man as he finally goes into action.
He briefly explains how the evacuation will go: Back seats first and he’ll make his way up. Adding that he needs everyone to be as still as possible.
Seeing as that you’re in the first row of seats, you settle back into your seat and distract your thoughts in order to calm down.
You wonder if Hendery ever got to finish those errands he told you his mother asked him to do this morning.
A groan rises in your throat, why today of all days? Why did he have to leave you alone today? Why did this have to happen? You never got to tell him that-
A gentle hand comes down on your shoulder, to alert you of their presence. His masked face with big white eyes stares at you when you turn to him, his gaze shifts to his feet for a second before back to your face. The action reminds you of Hendery. You want to cry.
“Hey,” Spider-Man starts, “it’s your turn.”
You didn’t imagine his voice being as soft and comforting as it was. It was oddly familiar in a way. Its the kind of voice you want to read you to sleep every night.
“I need you to get up very slowly, okay?”
You do as he says, getting up at a snail’s pace on your shaky feet. Spider-Man is propped on the seats of the row opposite to you watching you intently, nodding his head and giving you words of encouragement as you make your way towards him. He extends a hand to you, which you go to grab before suddenly losing your balance as the web the hero had used to support the bus weakens. This causes your body to fall against the seat you were previously sitting on.
Your eyes fill with tears; you’re terrified. Spider-Man notices and says, “Hey, it’s okay. I’ve got you, I’ll protect you. I’ll come to you, okay?”
He slowly steps towards you, lifting your body off the seat, taking your arms and wrapping them around himself. “Hold on tight.”
You tighten your grip around him as he uses one arm to hold you close to his body while the other shoots a web up in the direction of the bridge. Your bodies shoot straight towards the back exit of the bus, your eyes are squeezed shut as you clutch Spider-Man’s body the whole way up to the bridge.
He sets you down gently once you arrive, you force yourself to let go of him and meet his masked gaze with tearful eyes. You don’t know this, but his heart clenches at the sight. He looks at his feet.
“Thank you, Spider-Man.”
He shrugs, “Just doing what I do.” He chuckles a bit before adding, “Don’t cry anymore, okay? You’re safe now.”
You sniffle and nod. His hand twitches at his side as a tear rolls down your cheek.
The vibration of your phone diverts your attention, you reach into your bag to get it. Only to look back up and find that Spider-Man is nowhere to be seen.
-
Later that night, there’s a knock on your door.
“Where were you today?” Hendery questions, walking past you, taking a seat on your couch. Sending your parents a few ‘hellos’ as he sits next to them, they only give a brief acknowledgement, already used to the boy’s presencein their house, as they quickly bring their attention back to the TV where the news was playing.
“The bus had an accident this morning, mom told me to come home to rest an recover.”
Hendery immediately stands up, walking toward you and placing his hands on your shoulders. He inspects your face for any injuries with furrowed brows.
“Were you hurt? Are you okay?” His concern is familiar to you, but it still makes your heart flutter in the slightest.
“I’m fine,” you start, “Spider-Man showed up. Saved everyone.”
Hendery gaze monetary flickers from yours. “Spider-Man?”
“Yeah, if I wasn’t so terrified it would’ve been awesome.” You chuckle, “He was really nice.”
He nods, letting his hands fall to his sides once again. Looking down towards his feet, it’s a nervous habit of his (though you can’t think of anything that he would have to be nervous about right now.) “I’m glad you’re okay.” You can tell his smile is forced. The air around you is tense, which is an extremely rare occurrence between you two.
“Witness way that “Green Goblin” was terrorizing the streets before before heading to the Suntrust building, where he is reportedly holding 43 civilians hostage more news on that.” Says the reporter on tv, momentarily capturing your attention. You look back at Hendery who holds an intense stare on the TV.
“Hen-“
“I should go, I got some PC Chem homework.” He cuts you off, walking around you and grabbing his backpack. The boy spares you a brief hug as he races towards the door. Just as he is about to leave, you call out:
“Hey!”
He shoots back a confused gaze, “yeah?”
“I love you.”
“I love you too, Y/N.”
-
The chatting of students rings in your ears as you sit in the cafeteria, three days later, with Yangyang and Hendery.
A buzz of excitement travels over the school as the students put up the huge poster over the expanse of the cafeteria wall reading: ‘Homecoming! Friday!’
You realize said excitement makes an exception as Yangyang groans beside you. “Ugh, I’m dreading having to go alone to that.”
You shake your head, tapping his arm lightly. “Not true. Gwen from Bio has been waiting for you to ask her for weeks now.”
Yangyang blushes, “Has she?”
You and Hendery exchange a brief look. The ‘oh, how cute! He’s in love!’ look.
Yangyang shoves your shoulder and hides his face behind his hands. You laugh at his cute antics.
All while you’re teasing the younger, Hendery watches you with soft eyes. He wants to capture the image of you laughing and keep it in his memory forever. He wants to keep you forever.
You catch his gaze and he falters for a bit before sending a gentle smile your way. You smile back, you heart beat speeding up a little.
Yangyang makes gagging noises as he watches the interaction. You shove him playfully and stand up, taking your leftovers and trash, “I’m gonna go throw this away.”
They watch as you walk away. Once you’re out of earshot, Yangyang speaks, “Dude. Literally, just ask her out.”
Hendery throws a glare his way. “You know it’s not that easy.” He continues eating.
“It’s could be that easy for Lucas though…” his friend replies in a teasing tone.
Hendery freezes, “What do you mean?”
He had heard of Lucas before, he was the son of a multi millionaire scientist who owns a huge company right in the heart of New York City. He’s loaded and also pretty handsome. Hendery is scared he doesn’t stand a chance.
“Lucas from my PC Chem class was asking me about her, wants to take her to Homecoming.” He replies and watches as Hendery’s face contorts into a sort of pout.
“But…” Hendery starts, “they don’t even talk!”
Yangyang sits back in his seat, fading his arms in surrender. “I’m just saying, man. You should ask her before someone else does.”
Hendery stays quiet until you come back, his mind plagued with the image of Lucas taking you to prom. Holding your waist, dancing with you... kissing you. He tries not contort his face in disgust.
You sit back down in you seat opposite to Hendery. Upon your arrival, a smile replaces the scowl on his face.
“What were you guys talking about?” You question with slight chuckle, the eerie silence that lifts at your table apparent.
“Nothing.” Hendery quietly replies, before going back to his lunch. You miss the small smirk Yangyang sends his way.
“Okay… so I was thinking we could get together after after school today and have ice cream or something, my treat.” You say, “Kinda wanna calm down and spend some time with you guys before the teachers start flooding us with work.
Yangyang sighs, “I wish I could but I got a Calculus quiz tomorrow I have to study for. You guys go ahead, though.”
You look at Hendery, who’s already looking at you. “You in?”
He nods, taking a sip of his soda as the bell rings, signifying the end of lunch.
-
It wasn’t strange for Hendery to arrive late to places or to disappear unexpectedly but you didn’t think he would stand you up.
The night has already fallen as you stare at the window of the ice cream shop. Hendery had stopped you after last period to tell you to head to the shop without him, and that he would meet you there later. However, you and Hendery’s definitions of ‘later’ seemed to not add up with one another because it’s been 3 hours since you got here and he still hasn’t shown up. This reminds you of all the similar occurrences where he gotten there late, or texted you last minute that he wasn’t going to make it. ‘Sorry, Y/N’, ‘I got caught up’ being the only answers when you ask him of his whereabouts.
Frustrated, you grab your backpack, throwing away your already soupy ice cream and head for the door. You turn to wish the cashier a good night only to see that she’s looking straight past you out the window with a shocked face.
You turn, facing the bank across the street where 4 men dressed in black from head to toe, holding bulky contraptions of some sort. They’re shooting at the dark figure that hops from one wall to another, almost like it was taunting them. You watch as the figure jumps on one of the criminals, who attempts to shoot at it blindly. Suddenly, one of the beams comes shooting straight in the direction of the ice cream shop.
“Get down!” You call to the cashier, throwing your body under the nearest table, just in time for a blast for a bright blast to cut through the glass windows and door. The glass goes flying in different directions of the shop, some falling on you and scraping your skin causing you to wince.
You remain under the table for a few minutes breathing heavily, waiting for any signs of another blast, when you hear nothing you peer over the table to see the bank now vacant; the broken glass and multiple small fires being the only thing to signify that anything was ever there. There is money scattered all across the street clearly serving as evidence of destruction at the scene. You’re so busy scoping the scene that you don’t notice the man coming up behind you until you feel a hand rest on your shoulder.
“Are you okay?” Your head snaps in the direction of the voice. Only to realize it’s the voice of the masked man that has been constantly on your thoughts for the past 3 days. You stare at his masked face for a few seconds before replying. You take notice of the fresh cut on the side of jawline which has torn his suit and stained it red with blood.
“I’m fine.”
He gets up to look through the windows of the shop, groaning once he realizes that those criminals had escaped him once again. Spider-Man sighs loudly and crouches down next to you, his breath still slightly uneven from the fight he had just moments ago.
“You’re the girl from the bus.” He says. You’re shocked that he remembers you at all, you nod.
“I am.” You say, looking away from him to look the damage in the store. “What happened back there?”
He shrugs, then gives in, throing his hands up on frustration. “Some dudes started breaking into the ATM machines with weapons I’ve never seen before. It was so unfair! I didn’t even know those things existed!”
He sounds like he’s ranting to himself at this point. “The force of whatever ammunition they were using is to powerful for this world. I’m thinking aliens.”
It’s your turn to shrug, “Could be.”
“Either way,” he stands up suddenly, “it’s not safe.”
“Well, I guess that’s what you’re here for. The city trusts you.”
Spider-Man chuckles softly, “I guess so… were you on your way home?”
The question makes you think of the circumstance you were in at the ice cream shop. All the adrenaline of the previous accident gone as you remember that your best friend had stood you up. You check your phone once again to see no texts.
“You okay?” Spider-Man’s gentle voice seeps into your thoughts, he sets a hand on your shoulder but immediately retracts it when you look his way.
“Yeah, I just kinda got stood up tonight.” You laugh at how pathetic you sounded, talking about your problems to Spider-Man was definitely not on your agenda tonight.
“By a boyfriend?”
“No, actually. My best friend. With no explanation whatsoever.” You want to kick your feet in frustration. You feels embarrassed for letting the masked hero see you in this state.
You cast a side glance his way, his head is cast down at his feet, which pick at the sides of the colorful tiles of the shop. His antics are familiar and you dare say... cute. At least cute for being a crime fighting hero.
He looks nervous, although you have no idea why he would be nervous in this situation. “Maybe there’s… a reason he can’t tell you?”
You frown at that, “We’ve been best friends for 10 years, we’re always in each other’s business! I don’t understand why he would feel like he had to hide something from me. I mean, I trust him with my life. I guess… I expected him to do the same.”
The sudden sadness and realization falls over you that maybe this is one of those movie friendships moments where they drift apart because of differences and not talking enough. Shivers go down your spine at the thought, you really didn’t want that to happen.
“I’m sure he has his reasons. Maybe he’s doing this for your good, maybe he’s trying to… protect you in some way.” Spider-Man says suddenly, pulling you away from your thoughts once again. The statement makes you scoff.
“You’ve clearly never met my best friend, there’s nothing dangerous about him.”
Spider-Man is quickly to retort, “maybe there’s more to him that you don’t know about.”
“Maybe.” You say in thoughtful tone, you decide to drop the subject as you watch the lights of the city that never sleeps buzz from inside the shop.
-
Later that night, as he makes his way home Hendery’s heart clenches slightly as he thinks about the words you had said about him. To him. He could hear the insecurity behind your words and wants to crawl up in a hole and die at the fact that he caused all that insecurity. The fact that you doubted for a second that he trusted you as much as you trusted him give him an angsty feeling. Because he does. He trusts you more than you could ever know. But this… no one knows. No one can know.
The only person who knows (much to his dismay) is Yangyang, due to a time when Hendery accidentally let it slip to the younger boy back when he first found out he had powers. Since then, Yangyang has been his (self proclaimed) “guy in the chair.” All unbeknownst to you.
He feels guilty for leaving you in the dark. But he just wanted to protect you, ever since he was a little kid. You were always his priority and he was scared to death that if you knew about Spider-Man you would be put at a high risk. A risk Hendery wasn’t willing to take. It’s not that he didn’t trust you, he didn’t trust everyone else with your life, which is too precious to him.
He sighs as he retrieves his backpack from the dumpster he had hidden it in. Groaning as he pulls out the sunflower he had gotten you on the way to the ice cream shop. It’s misshapen and some of the petals fall to the dirty floor of the alleyway. He wanted to give the flower and bring out whatever courage it is that he uses to be Spider-Man and finally ask you to Homecoming. But Hendery will never be as brave as Spider-Man. Once he takes off the mask, He’s just Hendery. And he’s scared that not enough.
-
You’re not surprised when the next morning Hendery runs into first period English, hair a mess and his chest heaving to regulate his breath once again. He looks like he has ran a marathon, and there’s a cut on his jaw line.
You stop yourself from immediately standing up and gripping his face so you could inspect the cut as he takes his usual seat behind you. You can hear him panting still as he settles into his seat and takes out his books. The familiar scent of his cologne hits you and you are starting to wonder if your decision to ignore him for the time being was going to last at all.
“Hey” you hear him whisper, feeling the goosebumps forming under your sweater as you feel his breath on the back of your neck. It takes all the restraint in your body to not acknowledge him.
“Y/N?”
“Are you ignoring me?”
“Y/N?”
You can tell he’s pouting, but he stops trying to get your attention. At least thats what you think until you see his hand from your peripheral vision gripping tighly onto a note. He shakes it vigorously, waiting for you to take it. You try not to sigh out loud as you take the note from his hand, your curiosity (and Hendery’s eagerness) getting the best of you.
The note is folded into a perfect little triangle and has a small sunflower drawn in pen on one of its faces.
On the inside, written in Hendery’s messy handwriting are the words:
I’m sorry I didn’t show yesterday, something came up.
Your blood boils at the vague answer, having heard it many times from him before. You scribble back a response.
Where were you?
He takes the note immediately when you pass it back to him but his response takes a few minutes to formulate. If you thought your blood was boiling before, now it’s pass boiling point, it’s full on vaporizing at the words you read on the small piece of loose leaf paper.
Its complicated, I’m sorry.
Hendery winces as he passes you the note, knowing his response will probably only make things worst. And he knows he’s right when he see your response.
Whatever
That means the conversation is over. He groans internally, dropping his face into his hands and remaining that way for the rest of the period.
-
The next chance Hendery gets to talk to you, he’s rushing through the halls trying to get your locker before second period. Once he gets there, panting and a little sweaty, he finds you at at your locker and smiles.
However, this smile doesn’t last long as he realizes you’re not alone. Leaning against the locker next to yours is Lucas, looking smug and handsome as ever. Now it’s his turn to feel his blood boil. He suddenly remembers Yangyang’s words : ‘it might be that simple for Lucas.’
He tries to get as close as possible without being found out by either of you, he gets close enough to hear parts of your conversation. His body runs cold at Lucas’ words.
“How about going to homecoming with me?”
Hendery wants to punch a wall right now, he wants to punch Lucas. He needs to get you out of there before Yangyang’s predictions come true and Lucas snatches you before he even has a chance.
-
You were leaning against your locker talking to Lucas, who said he was friend of Yangyang’s, when you suddenly feel a hand wrap around your wrist and your body being pulled down the hall. You look down at the hand in confusion, you see the bracelet and neatly kept nails you are oh so familiar with. You try calling his name, to no avail. If anything, he begins walking faster all the way to the basketball court behind the school.
The space is vacant, you find yourselves alone. The faint voices from the students and teachers inside the school the only thing that is heard until he speaks up. “I’m sorry.”
You look at him for a few seconds, sighing. “I know you’re sorry’
His eyes shoot up at your face and your gaze casts down to his shoes, finding it difficult, for some reason, to look him in the eyes. The look of guilt was evident and you’re afraid you’ll give in to whatever he says, like you always do.
Meanwhile, Hendery feels choked up. He hates arguing with you more than anything else in this world. He sighs sadly, his words are thick, hurt weighing heavy on them. “Then why won’t you look at me?”
“Tell me where you were, Hendery.” You cross your arms as a defense mechanism, not wanting him to see how hurt and insecure you are feeling right now. Hendery breath hitches at the question as he tries to formulate an answer.
“I had to… go in and do some work for Mr. Stark! Super last minute. I forgot to tell you, Im sorry.” He trains his eyes to the ground, scared that if you look in his eyes you’ll see right through him and his lies, like you always do.
“For your internship?” Your body posture relaxes a bit at the relief an explanation has brought you. He finally looks at you, noticing the anger slowly fade from your features. “Yeah, he called me and said it was urgent. I was in such a rush, I...forgot call you.”
You drop your arms to your sides, a sign that the anger has officially left you, “Why didnt you just tell me that you asshole! I was worried!”
Hendery feels guilty, he wishes he didn’t have lie to you like this. He forces a smile at you.
“I’m sorry for ignoring you, Hendery.” You say, noticing the false smile he sends your way. He shakes his head at your statement, there is no way in hell you’re more sorry than him.
“Don’t be sorry, it was my fault for not telling you.”
In true best friend fashion, you seal this argument with a tight hug. Even though you can tell he still upset from the way he grips your clothes tighter and presses his body even closer to yours, but you make no attempt to bring it up, wanting the temporary ease in your system to stay as long as possible.
-
Later that day, you walk down to the bus stop with Hendery by your side. The horns of cars and sirens filling the silence around you two. That is, until Hendery speaks.
“Are you going to Homecoming with Lucas?” You stop walking, and turn towards your best friend. Your features contorted in confusion.
“How did you know he asked me?” Hendery shrugs, trying (desperately) to play it cool.
“I heard him when you were talking to him earlier, you know after english when I went to find you.”
You makes an ‘O’ shape with your mouth as you realize what he's talking about before shaking your head. “I don't think so. No. Why do you ask?”
Hendery know this is it. This the moment to go for it. The thought of Lucas (or anyone else, for that matter) taking you to homecoming made his heart hurt. When he heard Lucas ask you earlier he realized that you were going to slipping away a lot faster than he thought and that you would eventually slip through his fingers if he didn’t take the leap. The thought alone is scarier than any of the villains and trials he has faced before.
The same adrenaline he gets when his body is swinging from building to building flows through his veins at this exact moment.
“Good, then go with me.” After he utters the words, Hendery decides that it would be easier to find waldo then find where the hell all that courage came from. He freezes right after, he can't believe he just did that. All he can do is wait for your reaction.
“What?” You say with chuckle, there is no way you heard that right.
“Let’s go to Homecoming... together.” He nearly flinches as your eyes meet, the palms of his hands are sweaty as you look at him with a confused expression. He considers just taking off running but that's not really an option when you say:
“Like… on a date?”
“Not if you don't want it to be, i was just… i don't kn… i just… uhh…” Hendery is sweating bullets, he was foolish to think that he could pull this off without his mask, he was foolish to think that he was anything without his mask, it was a stupid of him to think that Hendery could do this.
“I want it to be though.” Hendery is brought out of his train of insecure thoughts by the words he's been waiting to hear for the last 8 years. He swears there's literally hearts in his eyes as he watches you giggle at the shocked expression he gave as a reaction to your words.
“You do? Really?”
You nod, feeling giddy. You don't know how describe the warm feeling that spreads in your chest when Hendery takes your shoulders and pulls you into a tight hug. His hand holds the back of your head as he buries his own into the junction between your head and shoulder. He laughs, his breath tickling your neck slightly as you giggle and push him away playfully.
When he pulls away he thinks his heart might burst. Your smile is wide and your cheeks are flushed, he can’t help himself as he leans over and pecks your forehead quickly. His smile mirrors yours. He’s so happy.
“You like me back?” he says, looking into your eyes. There’s a particular twinkle he never noticed before in them, he almost jumps with joy when you nod your head at him.
For the first time without his mask, Hendery feels invincible.
-
Later that night, you find yourself lying in your bed where you had been for the last few hours, staring up at the ceiling in a dreamy state. Occasionally giggling in disbelief at the events that took place that afternoon. You were absolutely positive you were dreaming until you hear a knock from your window.
You pull the curtain and see Spidr-Man waving through the glass. You hurriedly open the window, letting him in. He makes himself comfortable as soon as he steps foot in your room, sitting on your desk chair almost like he had been here before. The behavior is strange but you let it pass. “To what do i owe the pleasure?”
He shrugs, shaking his head. “Just wanted to make sure you were okay after yesterday.”
The memories of last night’s events come flooding back to you: the ice cream shop, Hendery not showing, the blast, you venting to Spider-Man and him walking you home after. You cringe at reminder that you ranted about your best friend to a well-known superhero, who was now sitting in your bedroom.
“Yeah, I’m great.” You reply, moving to sit down on your bed. Spider-Man’s eyes follow you as you settle down on top of your sheets, however, they drift to a frame propped up on your night stand. The frame holds a picture of you and Hendery at the carnival 3 years ago, you’re standing in front of a carousel with your arms around each other’s shoulders, wide smiles on both your faces.
“Is that your friend you were telling me about?” He points at the picture. You try to suppress the smile that threatens to escape at the mention of the boy. Unfortunately, Spider-Man notices. “You seem happy, did something happen?”
You let the full smile out this time as you nod, “He asked me to Homecoming.” A giggle escapes you mouth as you speak the words.
He watches as you chuckle and hide your flushed face in your hands, his heart is filled to the brim with happiness at the sight of you being shy and happy because of him. “You must really like him, huh?”
You give him a look that means yes as let your hands fall to your sides. Shaking your head as you try to regain your composure. “Enough about me, how are things with you? I saw some articles about that goblin dude, seems like he’s giving you big of trouble. How that hunt going?”
He sighs at the mention of the rival he couldn't seem to get a hold of. “Its… pending, he's good.”
“I can tell,” you say, “But you'll catch him in no time.” Waving a dismissive hand at him as he chuckles.
“You think so?”
“Of course! You’ll do what you always do. You know, come in super last minute and catch him off guard. That’s where you start webbing him and shit. He won’t even see you coming! It's all about the timing, Spider-Man and you, my good sir, have great timing.” Spider-Man lets out a laugh at your words, leaning back in your chair as he regains his composure.
“I guess my timing is pretty good…” he says, soft chuckles lingering over his words. He looks over at you to see already looking at him.
“I believe in you, Spider-Man.”
That’s all he could ever want.
-
A week of shy glances, subtle hand touches and Yangyang threatening to throw up all over the lunch room table if you don’t stop being cute passes and it's finally time for Homecoming. Hendery tried hard not the skip on his way to your house, he’s clad in a black suit, his hair styled up nicely, courtesy of Aunt May. His tie matches your dress and he has a corsage in his slightly shaky hand.
Hendery whispers encouraging words to himself as he approaches your driveway; he has been here millions of time before but this time, it's different. This time, it’s not Hendery picking up his best friend for school, it’s Hendery picking up his Homecoming date. He smiles at the thought.
As he walks up the familiar driveway he feels his phone vibrate in his pocket. He stops in his tracks to check the caller ID, it’s Yangyang.
“Hello?”
“Hendery, i know how important Homecoming is for you but there’s a huge fire at the bodega on 42nd street, some people were saying that they saw the goblin at the scene and there’s people stuck inside.”
Hendery’s heartbeat picks up as the usual adrenaline of being Spider-Man pumps through his blood. He looks back at your door.
If he leaves, you’ll be upset. He knows it. It will probably take a huge toll on your relationship, and it could potentially mean that you won’t talk to him for a while but-
“Hendery, they need you!”
They need him. The city needs him.
-
3 hours, 43 calls and 78 messages later, Hendery still hasn’t shown up at your house. You can’t say you’re surprised but you didn’t think he would do this on Homecoming night after he kind of confessed to you.
Your parents attempt to comfort you, “Hendery is not that kinda kid. I wonder what happened.” Your mother says, your own sadness and disappointment is the only thing that stops you from telling her that you also wonder what happened, what has been happening. Instead, you shrug before making your way to your room. Of course you were upset, the frustration of the situation weighing heavy on your shoulders as you wipe off the make-up you spent a good three hours working on. You tried your best to trust Hendery despite everything that's happened in the past two years, but you didn't think he would take it this far. You didn't think he would get your hopes up just to stand you up like he did tonight. You bring your face deeper into your pillow as you let the tears fall. The thoughts of him that just hours ago were filled with fluttering hearts and giggles are now filled with confusion and embarrassment of what he did tonight and they plague your mind for the rest of the night.
-
Your restless body had settled down on the couch in front of the television, browsing through the channels in an effort to distract yourself when knock sounds from your front door.
You check the clock that hangs high on the wall above the TV which reads 2:34am.
You have a feeling you know who it is, but you didn’t want to see him right now. The knocking continues.
“Y/N, please, I know you’re there I can hear Friends playing.” You scoff, angrily throwing the blanket that was draped over your legs off your body as you march to the door, throwing it open to reveal a very guilty looking Hendery, his hair is disheveled; his suit is wrinkled in some spots. His hands have a tight grip on the corsage in his hands.
“What do you want?”
“Y/N… I” He pauses to think, “I wanted to give you this.” He finishes, thrusting the corsage into your hands. You can tell that he’s avoiding your eyes.
You feel your blood boil, the action making you livid, “That’s it? No explanation, whatsoever?”
He stays silent, his eyes locked on his feet. You continue, “Where the hell were you, Hendery?”
“I was..” he hesitates, he can’t lie to you again. Especially after what he did to you tonight. He considers the pros and cons of telling you the truth. The timing is perfect, if he tells you now, you’ll forgive him and you will understand why he disappears all the time and you won’t ever doubt his actions. The pros are endless, but there was still the question of your safety, he had promised to protect you and he intended to keep it. He wouldn’t be able to live with himself if you get hurt, or if you realize that under the mask of the hero who had saved was just the boy who didn’t have enough courage to tell you the truth.
The pros outweigh the cons, yes. The timing has never been more perfect. But unlike Spider-Man, Hendery was never really good at timing. “I’m sorry.”
You stare at him before taking a deep breath and asking him softly, “Did you even mean it when you said you liked me?”
Hendery panics as he finally looks into your eyes, he sees all the hurt and embarrassment inside them that he has caused. He feels like throwing up. “Yes, of course i do, Y/N you know i -” He makes an attempt to step forward and grab your hands but you take a step back from him, sending a dagger straight into his heart.
“Then tell me where you were! I deserve an explanation!” You raise your voice suddenly.
He gulps thickly before saying in a calm voice, “You wouldnt understand.”
You stare at each other for a few seconds. His eyes look somewhat desperate for you forgiveness. You heartstrings contort at the sight of the tears forming in his eyes but you don't deserve this.
Turning your face away from him, you sigh, “You should go home Hendery.” You shove the corsage back into his hands, he takes it with a perplexed look on his face at that very moment a tear rolls down his cheek. “Come back when you want to stop keeping secrets from me.”
You hear him call your name as you slam the door in his face.
Hendery stands on the other side of door, still staring at where your face was seconds ago. He knew you were going to be mad, but he didn’t think you would tell him to screw off. He rubs his face in frustration, this is one of those times he wishes he could go back to being a normal kid.
-
You and Hendery find yourselves drowning in silence following that night.
The weekend is spent locked in your room, recieving pitiful looks from your mother when she comes in every now and then to check on you. And occasionally looking through window to Henderys only to find it dark and vacant. Even though it's kind of embarrassing, half of you expected him to come to your house again the next day or maybe the day after; the disappointment you felt when he didn’t was stronger than you would like to admit.
The ache in your hands when you leave your house Monday morning is a reminder of how unusual the whole situation is. This is the longest you’ve gone without talking to him in over 9 years. The cold war between you seems to affect the climate as you feel the cool autumn air seep through your jeans, sending a shiver up your spine. You pull your jacket closer as you brave your way past the driveway of the Huang household, trying desperately to not turn your eyes to the doorway you had walked up so many times before. Where the boy who once waited for you there every morning was nowhere to be seen.
-
The day passed too slow for your liking.
Not only the fact that it was Monday, which entails the hours to go a quarter of their usual speed but also the tension that rose in the room during first period english as Hendery runs in 30 minutes late and takes his usual seat behind you. Except this time, there are no whispers of your name to gain your attention, no note passing, no light shoulder touches, no… nothing. You feel almost like strangers, the thought makes your hands ache even more.
By the end of the day, you felt the emotional exhaustion weighing on you when you exit the door of Midtown high school. The sun has already started setting, leaving the city covered in a light golden dust as you make your way to the bus stop.
However, your journey is halted when you feel a hand on your shoulder. You spin around immediately, hoping to see the boy who has been clouding your thoughts for the past 3 days. Except it's not him, but Lucas. Your mind cannot possibly fathom why he would be stopping you in the middle of the street; you briefly recall your last encounter with the boy and cringe internally. “Y/N!”
He’s dressed in his usual neatly pressed pants and long coat, a silver watch on his wrist- a clear indication of his wealth. Hair brushed back with a few strands sitting on his forehead, his smile on full display as he says your name.
“Lucas!” You say, trying to return a smile for the boy. “What’s up?”
He shrugs, hands stuffed in his pockets, “I was just strolling by, happened to see you.”
You nod in acknowledgement to the statement. “Yeah, I was just on my way home from school.”
“You’re walking alone? Where's your friend?” He questions, briefly looking around as if to emphasize his point.
“My friend?”
“Yeah, Hendery.”
You sigh at his reply, the mention of your friend putting you in a bitter mood once again. Lucas notices.
“Trouble in paradise?” he chuckles, you chuckle back before nodding your head. “I thought so,” he says, “ Didn't see you at Homecoming.”
You cringe at the memory before quickly saying, “Yeah, and I'm sorry for leaving you hanging that day at the lockers.”
He looks down at his leather shoes before saying, “I understand, you had bigger fish to fry with that Hendery fellow.”
You find yourself nodding once again, you open your mouth to respond but he beats you to it as he adds, “Well, if he’s not here, maybe I could walk you home. It's dangerous for a lady like you to walking outside alone this late what with all those aliens and goblins reeking havoc throughout the city.” He gives you an expecting look. You find yourself saying yes and suddenly you're walking side by side with him.
You make polite small talk with the boy as you approach the bus stop. Your feet bring you a halt as you finally make it to your destination. Lucas keeps walking, you call out to him.
“Lucas, this is my bus stop.” You watch as he turns around and eyes the stop your pointing at. He clicks his tongue. “Our walk was so short, how about we walk some more? I’ll call my driver later and he can take you home. Please?”
You look at his face for a while before looking down at your hands, “I don't know, I was kinda…” You turn towards the direction of the bus only to be stopped by a hand gripping your wrist.
“Please?” He repeats, interrupting you. He steps so close to you, you can smell his cologne. There’s a look in his eyes; you can’t pinpoint what exactly it is.
The way he stands over you makes you feel small. Not in the way that makes you feel protected but in a way that makes you feel vulnerable; like he could crush you like a bug under his shoe. He watches you carefully, awaiting your response. His grip on your waist tightens slightly and you find yourself caving into his request.
The aura is different this time around, contrasting from the walk to the bus stop. Lucas has abandoned his carefree talkative persona, uttering no words as you tread down the sidewalk. That is until you make your way past an alleyway. Darkness is beginning to fall on the city, giving the place an eerie feeling.
You notice the absence of Lucas’ footsteps, turning around, you see him looking around. “This place is perfect.”
Confused, you look around as well. Scoping the area for what he could possibly be talking about. “Perfe-“
Your words are suddenly muffled, a hand pressing against your mouth. Lucas’ face being the last thing you remember seeing before the world goes black.
-
Hendery’s slumber is put to an abrupt end by the feeling of a hand on his shoulder, shaking him awake. He drowsily opens his eyes and looks for the owner of said hand, finding the familiar face of his aunt staring back at him. He frowns at the worried look on her face. “May, what’s wrong?”
He sits up as Aunt May sighs before asking, “Were you with Y/N last night? Or do you know where she is?”
Hendery halts all his movements and stares at the woman with wide eyes. “What do you mean?”
“Her parents called me this morning, they said she never came home yesterday. I thought that maybe you would know.”
Hendery gulps, “What do you… what do you think happened to her?” The statement causes his aunt to sigh then shrug. She picks at the sides of Hendery’s duvet, not sparing a glance at the her now, nervous and sweaty nephew. Who’s hands ache at the thought of his best friend being hurt.
“Wh- what are we going to do?” His voice comes out shakier than he would've liked, distrest heavy on every syllable that leaves his mouth; which Aunt May takes notice of.
“Honey, calm down, okay? I know that you’re worried but her parents said they were going to call the police now, they’ll have it under control. You just worry about going to school.” Her hand reaches up to ruffle her young nephew’s thick black hair, he averts his gaze to closet where his suit was hidden from the careful eyes of his aunt. A strong determination floods through his system, along with the usual adrenaline which sends his flying out his bed. May gives him a confused look.
“I forgot I had to meet Yangyang to study for PC Chem.” He’s already leading the woman out of his room. Ready to think up a game plan.
Ready to find you.
-
Hendery is out of breath when he reaches Yangyang, who stands in front of his open locker, looking down at his phone. Hendery starts speaking frantically as grasps the younger boy’s shoulders.
“Yangyang, I need your help. Y/N is missing, May told me this morning and told me not worry but my senses are telling me something else. I feel like… something is wrong.”
Yangyang’s eyes widen as he processes the information his friend presents him. “Y/N is missing?”
Before he could reply to his friend his ears ring then a quiet voice in the back of his head that he’s grown used to speak to him. It tells him to turn around.
Once he does, he facing the direction his locker. “Hendery, what’s wrong?” Yangyang voices sounds faint to Hendery’s ears as he makes his way to his locker. He notices a little paper sticking out of his locker vent.
His hands react faster than his mind does, hurriedly putting in his locker combination. A small, neatly folded paper falls onto his worn out sneakers, once unfolded the words written in green-ish ink stare back at him. He freezes.
Lose something? Catch me if you can, Spidey.
The goblin
Yangyang gasps as he reads the note over Hendery’s shoulder. A hand clasping over his mouth. “The goblin has Y/N. And he knows who you are. How-“
His words become inaudible to Hendery as he delves into the dangerous abiss of his thoughts. His senses couldn’t have possibly warned him about something this bad, not only were you in mortal danger at the hands of the criminal he’s been trying to catch for as long as he’s been Spider-Man but the fact that this person knew who he was; he knew who you were. He was using you to blackmail him. He groans, this is exactly why he never wanted you to know about Spider-Man but in the end, distancing himself from you ended up worse than he thought.
“What are we going to do?” His friend sounds scared, Hendery wants to tell him that he’s probably as (if not more) scared but he can’t, not at a time like this: when you need his most. He turns to his frantic, scared looking friend, leaning in closely.
“I have a plan.”
-
The smell that hits your nose as you regain consciousness is one that is unfamiliar to you. So are the clean countertops and expensive looking scientific equipment set on them. It’s when your movements are restricted as you go to stand up that you realize that your hands and ankles are both tied up to the side of an examination table. You take this time to try and figure out where you are, your eyes watching the room for any labels or names. And you found one.
On the side of a large beaker that holds a green liquid unrecognizable to you- written in white letters: Wong Corp. You recognize the name from the many science fairs and career days there had been at school. The place had been known for making some of the most impressive mutant discoveries of the century, you vividly remember having gone on a field trip in sophomore year to the company since it had been the time Hendery went missing, leaving you worried in the lobby for nearly two hours.
Your thoughts are interrupted by the abrupt opening of the entrance of the room, a large silhouette ascending through the parted doors making his way towards you with long, slow steps. The nerves in your body go is insane at the sight of the approaching figure, the beat of your heart is loud enough to be heard by the man as he crouches down to your height in front of you. The brown eyes, plump lips, and neatly styled hair that could only belong to one person stare back at you.
“Lucas?”
His lips fall into a wicked smirk. “You’re awake.”
The memory of Lucas lunging in your direction right before you blacked out comes back to you. Your voice shakes as you ask, “Why did you bring me here?”
He chuckles and stands up, towering above you for a few seconds before walking towards a cylindrical glass display, where he presses a button to reveal the suit you have seen on multiple news reports, and the one of the villain Spider-Man had been trying to catch for as long as he has been Spider-Man. Your eyes widen at the realization : your situation is a lot more dangerous than you thought.
Lucas is the Green Goblin.
“I brought you here because if I have you… Spider-Man will come right into my trap.” He smiles wickedly once again before dismantling his suit from the stand it was on. “It’s only a matter of time.”
-
Hendery had been swinging from building to building for a total of three hours, the heat of the midday sun seeping through the fabric of his suit onto his back. His breathing is heavy from the physical exhaustion of his long search.
“Yangyang, you got anything?” He says, the earpiece he has on taking his message to his friend, who sits in the computer lab trying to find any traces of you on the security cams all over the city.
The sound of Yangyang’s sigh is enough to answer his question. “Nothing, there’s no trace of her anywhere.”
Hendery sits on the edge of a building staring down at the city below. He wishes he could talk to you, that he could say he’s sorry and tell you the truth. That he never left you alone in the first place.
Yangyang’s gasp causes his body to jolt. “I found something! The security cam by the bus stop in front of the bakery. She was there at 5 yesterday.”
Hendery feels his heart fill with something comparable to hope. “What is she doing?”
“I think… she talking to someone. I can’t see their face that clearly, I’m trying to zoom in.” There's a momentary silence before he speaks again, “they’re walking past the bus stop.”
“What? Y/N always takes the bus.” Hendery questions no one in particular. Yangyang hums on the other line.
“I’m hacking into some other cameras to see where they’re headed.” Hendery hears the clacking on a keyboard as he waits for the boy to do what he needs to. The guilt he feels in his chest is unmistakable. He promised to protect you; but he couldn’t. He let his stupid secret get in the way of that promise. He left you alone.
“I found some footage from other cameras in the area, but the angle gets cut off.”
“Where did they go?”
“I’m not sure, they both walked into this kind of alleyway and I can-...oh my god!” The sudden outburst from him causes Hendery to panic.
“What is it? What do you see?”
“The guy carried Y/N into his car. And I don’t think… I don’t think she’s conscious. They got into a black car.” Yangyang’s breathing is heavy as his heart rate pick up at the thought of one of his closest friends being harmed.
“Is there any labels on the car, a license plate, anything we can go off?” Hendery tries hard to keep his voice steady as to calm down his friend.
“There’s a name on the license plate.” Yangyang closes up on the image with shaky fingers, gasping as he sees the name on the car.
“What does it say, Yangyang?”
“Wong Corp.”
-
Lucas get into his evil persona right before your eyes. Turning from a nice kid in Yangyang’s class to a villain known for plaguing New York City with destruction.
You let out a breath you didn’t even know you were holding once he leaves the room for the streets. Tears prick the back of your eyes as the fear sets in. The realization that you're probably never going to make it out of here hitting you like a bus. You think about your family that you will leave behind, how you never made amends with best friend. The reminder of your fight makes you cry harder; you wish you would’ve known this would happen; that your separation would only bring you to such extremely dangerous circumstances. Maybe then you would’ve stuck to his side like you always have. Everything would be okay.
You sob as you wrap yourself around your thoughts, not noticing the small drone hovering above you. A small buzzing sound filling your ears is what makes your finally look up. Confused, you inspect the drone for a few seconds, noticing the red light pointing in your direction. Your eyes widen when you realize that this is no regular drone; no, this drone has a peculiar shape. That of a spider.
“Spider-Man!” You gasp out, a laugh bubbling at the back of your throat as you grasp onto the hope of getting out this place. Until Lucas walks back into the room.
“What are you laughing about?” Your laughter immediately halts at the sound of his deep voice. You watch in horror as approaches you, grasping the spider shaped drone in his palm, crushing it. He chuckles, “He found you.”
Your breathing picks up as adrenaline pumps through your veins. An unknown bravery washes through you which causes you to say, “Spider-Man will stop you. You… are going to lose.” The boy laughs, crouching down to your height before grasping the sides of your face tightly.
Your breath hitches as he tells you with a clenched jaw, looking into your eyes intimidating you and causing your blood to run cold. “Spider-Man couldn’t catch me before, what makes you think he can catch me now?”
“This time it’s personal.”
Lucas lets go of your face, letting your gaze immediately go to the owner of the new voice. Behind Lucas, clad red and blue with his fists clenched tightly at his sides, stands Spider-Man in all his glory. You have to stop yourself from exclaiming in joy.
“You’re here,” says Lucas standing up and facing the hero, chuckling, he adds, “Finally we can have some real fun.” He lunges suddenly at Spider-Man who dodges his advance smoothly. He shoots a web at some bulky equipment behind the villain and pulls it in his direction, knocking the other boy of his feet. He just laughs and rubbing the place where he was hit. He chuckles and throws a small grenade like object towards Spider-Man, leaving him no time to react as the object expands into four spider-like legs, wrapping around him in tight grip, restricting all his movements. He thrashes in it’s hold, trying desperately to escape.
Lucas’ approaches him slowly, “Even now, you can’t beat me, Spider-Man. You can never beat me.” Spider-Man freezes briefly as he gets a good look of the bad guy’s face, he regains his composure and says, “Let her go, Lucas.”
Lucas laughs out loud, but his laugh is full of traces of mockery and disbelief. “See! That’s exactly it! That’s why you can’t win! You have a weakness, that girl is your weakness. No true hero has a weakness, and I think that says a lot about you, Spider-Man. You always had a soft spot for her, you’re not worthy of your abilities, the abilities my father gave you.” He’s gripping the sides of Spider-Man’s jaw like he did yours earlier.
Confusion floods through your system as he says those words. How were you Spider-Man’s weakness? Yeah, he saved you. But he also saved hundreds of other people. What makes you so special?
Lucas seems to notice as he laughs, “Don’t tell me you don’t know…” your confusion look seems to fuel him further as he turns to Spider-Man , “You never told her? Oh my god! This is perfect!” His fingers reach down to the edge of Spider-Man’s mask, “let’s get her in the know, shall we?” He rips the mask off.
Your heart nearly stops, eyes widening. You watch as the mask falls off his head, familiar straight black hair falling into place, a few strands sticking onto his sweaty forehead. His eyes are cast down to the floor, most likely avoiding your eyes. You understand why. Because it’s him.
It’s Hendery.
Hendery is Spider-Man. He is the one who saved you on the bus that day, who fought those thieves while the two of you were supposed to meet for ice cream. Who walked you home like he always does that same night. Who came to your window and listened to you gush about him, who couldn’t go to homecoming with you because he was busy protecting the city. Who came here to save you. It was him.
It always been him.
“Hendery?” You ask in a breathy voice, the boy in question closes his eyes in what looks like pain.
“I’m sorry, Y/N. I’m so sorry, I-“ He is cuts off by punch to his face. Lucas standing above him.
“Sorry, I was getting a little bored.” He continues to beat up Hendery, who has no way of defending himself. He takes it, doing his best to shield his face without his hands. You sit there watching, helpless.
“Please! Please stop!” Your sob choking you as you exclaimed the words through tears. “Stop hurting him please, I beg of you.”
The Green Goblin turns to you, wiping a drop of blood from your best friend off his face. Hendery’s body goes numb as the other boy pulls away, the fatigue and pain being almost too much to handle. Lucas’ knuckles are bloody, you’re not sure who’s blood it is but you hope it’s his. “What is it? You wanna be part of the fun? Oh, honey, I got something big planned for you. All for your boyfriend to watch. Wouldn’t that be nice?” You thrash in his hold as picks you up off the floor, to no avail since your hands and feet are still tied together preventing you from getting anywhere. He brings you to the examination table and takes out a syringe which he fills with the green fluid you saw in the beaker earlier. You send the object a terrified look. “It’s my new experiment, it’s gonna keep me from getting sick and ending up like my pathetic father.” He says, examining the measurements of the greenish liquid inside. “Haven’t tested it yet, though… that’s what you’re here for.” He sends a wicked smile your way before looking back at Hendery who watches with terror filling every part of his body, he makes another pathetic attempt at escaping the hold of the contraption restricting him. But he’s far too weak to even stand a chance right now. He’s helpless, he wants to cry, scream or do anything to help you.
Meanwhile, you sob on the examination table. Lucas’ hands grasping your arm as the syringe gets closer and closer to your skin.
“Please, Hendery. Please, save me, I need you. Please I’m scared!” You cough as you sob, your voice getting raw.
Hendery raises his head to you, watching as you sobbed and called for him to save you. Tears are streaming down his face as well. He holds back his sobs. He can’t do this. He can’t let you down. Not again and not like this. You need him.
Right now, you need him. Not Spider-Man, not anyone other than him.
And he made a promise.
He grunts as he uses all his strength to push apart the metal arms holding him down. They budge slightly, he pushes harder and harder until the arms slam open, releasing his body.
You look away from the syringe as it gets closer to the skin of your forearm, squeezing your eyes shut and awaiting the stinging sensation. Which never comes. You slowly peek open one eye to see Lucas with a surprised look on his face, the syringe no longer in his hand. But in the hands of your savior. Who drops it to the floor causing it to break and the liquid inside to spill on the floor, a web still attached to some of the broken pieces of glass. “Not today.”
He shoots a web towards a unexpecting Lucas, the web hits directly in the middle of his chest, pulling him out of his chair to his feet. Hendery send the other boy spinning until he’s caught in a thick bundle on web, unable to move. Thrashing and grunting on the floor, cursing Hendery’s name.
Hendery immediately runs to your trembling body, untying your hands and feet, before examining your face. “Are you okay?”
You nod, clinging to his suit. Sobs still running through you as you grip his body. He lets go only to press his earpiece. “Yangyang, send the police in.”
He then turns to you, scooping you up in his arms. “Let’s get you home.”

You sit on top of your sheets later that night.
Your parents hadn’t let you out of their sight since Hendery dropped you off at your front door earlier in the day. In his Spider-Man persona; kindly waving off your mother’s offer of cooking for him or giving him money as a thank you for saving their precious daughter. He said ‘it's what he does’ before swinging back into the city.
You hadn’t seen him since then, your patience wearing thin as your need to see him grows stronger. That’s why you found yourself locking your bedroom door and climbing skillfully out your window. Going slowly down the tree next your house until your feet thud on the ground. Then you take off to Hendery’s house, where his aunt, May, answers the door and pulls you into a hug as soon as he sees you.
“Y/N! Oh my god! Honey, are you alright? I don’t know what I would do if I was you, are you feeling alright? Have you eaten?”
You find yourself laughing at the familiar motherly nature that comes along with Aunt May, having practically spent half your childhood in her house. “I’m okay, Aunt May. I promise. I came to see Hendery, is he home?”
She sighs, “I’m not sure, that boy has been sneaking out a lot lately. Says it’s for the Stark internship but I’m not sure anymore... You’re welcome to go check and wait in his room if he’s not there.” With a nod of your head you walk into the house.
Just as you’re about to go upstairs to Hendery’s room, you turn back to Aunt May and say, “Hendery really loves you, May.” She smiles sweetly at you, nudging your shoulder affectionately.
“I know, kiddo.”
As you turn and walk up the stairs you don’t hear the words she mutters under her breath, “He loves you too.”
-
It’s been awhile since you’ve been in Hendery’s room. You breathe in deeply as you walk in, his smell floating around the room sending your head into a pleasant spin.
It’s turns out Aunt May was right, his room was vacant when you went up there. You sit down on his messy bed, picking at the sheets before deciding to lay down and use your phone until he comes back.
30 minutes later, he does. It’s past midnight when Hendery comes crawling on the ceiling through the open window. Letting his feet thud on the ground when he realizes the door is closed. His fingers rip his mask off his face and then he rubs his face in either fatigue or frustration. You can’t tell.
“Hey.” He jumps at the sound of your voice, spinning to face you. When he realizes it’s you, his body relaxes but then he remembers the fact that: you know. His gaze shifts to the ground. You feel the tension rise in the air. “May let me in. Hugged me, offered me food. You know, the usual.” Your attempt to make him laugh fails, but you do get a small smile out of him.
“She was worried about you.” He says, “We all were.”
You nod, wrapping your arms around yourself. “Hendery…” you start, you can tell he’s trying not to wince, knowing the conversation that coming, “Why didn’t you tell me?”
He sighs, he wonders why too. “I guess… I was just scared.” Your eyebrows scrunch in confusion, your arms dropping to your sides as you pat your thighs.
“Of what?”
Hendery’s eyes meet yours for the first time, he looks sincere, sorry and really scared. “Of losing you. Of you getting hurt. Of you being disappointed when you found out that under that mask it’s just me!” He’s only aware that he’s raising his voice when he finishes and his chest is heaving. His eyebrows are scrunched in frustration.
You stand up and march towards his body, getting as close as you can to him. “And what’s wrong with that?”
His eyes bore into yours before he looks away, toward the dirty floor of his room. “Spider-Man is a hero, everyone loves Spider-Man, he’s on the news, he gets praised all over the damn country! But Hendery… he’s just some loser from Queens who can’t walk through the halls in high school without getting shoved into the lockers.” You laugh at his words, he looks at you with with a confused, hurt look on his face.
“You’re such a fucking idiot, Hendery.” He takes a breath to protest but you continue, “Can’t you see that you’re a hero too? Yeah, Spider-Man is great, saved lots of people. Solid dude. But he’s only been doing that for 2 years. Hendery, however, has been doing that for his whole life. Hendery, I don’t think you realize how many people you’ve helped by just being yourself. Aunt May would be nothing without you, you’re the big brother Yangyang has never had and…” your voice trails off at the end.
“And you?” He urges you.
“You’re... my everything. You’ve protected me since we were little kids. You have been my hero for the longest time, way before Spider-Man... You’re my best friend, and I love you. Not Spider-Man. You. Hendery.” Tears prick his eyes as looks down at you. “I’m in love with you, Hendey.”
He pulls you into a bone crushing hug as you guys sob into each other’s necks. The emotions too strong to be dealt with in any other way.
He pulls away first, staring down at your face with his puffy, bloodshot eyes. His gloved hands grab the sides of your face, he leans in slowly until your lips meet.
You hate to say it, but you felt a spark. You had kissed people before, it never felt like this. Because it was Hendery, everything felt new and different with him, despite knowing each other for so many years.
His lips mold perfectly with yours, they’re softer than you thought they would be. They’re perfect. This is perfect.
He cranes his neck to deepen the kiss, wrapping his arms around your thighs as he picks you up, setting you on his desk, not breaking the kiss once. His hands are running up and down your sides and yours stay locked around his neck, bringing him closer to you. The moment was perfect until Hendery’s hand slips, sending the rack of disks on his desk flying to floor with loud crash.
“Hendery, Y/N! Is everything okay up there?” You hear Aunt May from down stairs. You look at hendery, who already looking at you.
“We’re okay!” You both call back in unison, you wait a bit for May to call back, when she doesn’t, you burst out into a fit of giggles and occasionally snorts. Hendery does the same until you’re both teary eyed and out of breath.
As your laughter dies down and you realize something, “Hey, you never told me you loved me back.”
He smiles, leaning forward and pecking forehead, nose then lips. “I love you 3000.”

Hendery admits, the view from the top of the Empire State is quite something but not when you’re there. The view of all the dazzling lights of New York City become a blur behind you as Hendery watches your hair blow in the wind and an amazed smile stretch on your face at the sight before you.
Being Spider-Man is scary. One of the scariest things, he’s ever had to face, actually. But he’s willing to risk his life every night to keep you and the city safe.
