“3, 2, 1” the countdown to mark the new year chimed on the television, laughter fills the air along with shouts of “shots shots shots!” you were kissing, drinking, smoking, living your best life. until the blast came. ringing in everyone’s ears. you weren’t prepared for it, no one was. well maybe those crazies with the signs that said “the end is near” who would stand outside your local trader joes, maybe they weren’t so crazy after all. the city gray from top to bottom, the toxins from the blast fill up the lungs of the young ones, no goodbyes, no i love yous, everything was just gone. and there was no way and preventing it from happen.

your gasp fills the once music filled room, the room that was once filled with laughter and shouts of “shots ! shots ! shots !”or “kiss ! kiss !kiss !” but this time. it was quiet, so quiet that all you could hear was the sound of your our own heart beat. you groan before sitting up. resting a hand on your now throbbing side, as you finally come back into reality you take a gander around taking in your new surroundings. you try to recall what happened but your mind goes blurry, your once blue and white New York City apartment was gray and brown, small dry patches of blood crusted up on the couch, dust and dibre coated the floor as if it was the carpet when you first moved in with your fiancé a month ago, the thought of your fiancé triggers years worth of memories in your head. “omg babe the watermelon sign is cute but I don’t think we should have that hanging over our fireplace” “what?? it’s perfect! you gotta let them know what goes down in our place” you laugh as he takes your hand, “I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with you” you sigh, “mark.. I need to tell you something, I don’t lov-“ the memory ends with a loud rumble through the floor, you stumble to your feet and look out the large windows that cover 2 out of the 4 walls in your apartment, looking out below you see what once was New York City but looked more like a scene from world war z. after gasping and stumbling behind you, marks face flashes into your mind. “mark ! mark !?” you turn and shriek, almost falling over, as you look down and see a few dead bodies covering your floor.
