I struggle to differentiate between wishful thinking and my Ni-ness sometimes.
INFJ *reads past writing*: “oh shit, my past self sounded more profound. What the heck, I need to listen to the advice of my old self.”
(Current INFJ probably in some type of SE abomination mode)
(Past INFJ writes, in hopes to advise the future self... and it seems to be working)
Ne-Si/Ni-Se Exaggeration
Ne-Si: thinks of all the possibilities but doesn’t stick to one, then singles out the ones that actually work because it’s too scared that the other possibilities will kill them; ultimately dies from something else eventually killing them
Ni-Se: thinks of all the possibilities, but singles them out to the few that could work, then proceeds to jump in with the idea that it’s safe to continue; ultimately dies from their own rashness after plans go awry
• Ni Function aesthetic •
• Easily taps into the unconscious • Used to having insights and hunches that frequently turn out to be correct • Focused inwards • Prefer to focus on the future • Mentally else where • Tend to be strategic • Easily connect the dots
I cannot for the life of me ever read the exact definition of Ni on the Internet because there isn't one. Forget knowing what it is because even if i have it as my dom function i don't know how it works. I would like to know more about it except for how it consists of 'aha!' moments, 'gut feelings', and just downright 'psychic' abilities. Maybe I don't research enough about it but I need something that isn't stereotypical and vague.
Am I the Only One?
We all know Ni users try to predict the future. A lot of the time they’re right. They’re like gods when it comes to this. But what about the Ne users like me? Ni users may be fortune tellers but… I’ve been calling myself a jinx since I was in elementary. (Maybe it’s just me, though, and I’m really weird.) Things just pop in my head and I end up seeing this stuff outside my head at some point in the near future.
Sometimes it’s the very near future: my family and I were watching Titanic one Saturday night. I asked my mother, rather bluntly, if Gloria Stuart was dead yet. I asked this question on the night of September 25, 2010. Gloria Stuart died the Sunday afternoon of September 26, 2010. So she died in less than 24 hours after I asked that question. I felt bad about it but laughed at the same time (please, I’m not evil; I couldn’t help it, I still gave her my respect).
And sometimes it takes a couple days to a couple weeks: back in (probably, again) 10th grade, I had no idea what the heck serendipity meant. But this word repeated back and forth over the course of two weeks. Then I looked up the word and it had something to do with luck. I’m looking up the word again and it says, “the occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way”. And boy, was I happy and lucky when I opened up the TV guide and found the movie Serendipity on one of the movie channels that day (probably on HBO or Showtime). Never watched or even heard of the movie (still haven’t watched it). And I barely watched the movie channels to know it was even on the guide.
Who wouldn’t call themselves a jinx when this happens on more than one occasion in which you now call yourself a “TV jinx”? I don’t believe in real jinxes, though; it’s just fun and games. But it’s freaky how often it happens. Maybe the world is set up for Ne users to point out patterns like this. Ni users predict the future through intuition. Ne users know the future because the world just loves them so much to give them a superpower.
Nah I can see you & through you
Thanks to my Ni, not only can I understand where you're coming from on an arguement & what led to it, but why & the mechanism that your mind took to get there. Every body makes assumptions before stepping back to reflect. I can step into the eyes & minds of other people, but I can also be highly judgemental.
Te asks the questions: When the information no longer serves us why do you hold on to it? When it is no longer sustainable why do you keep doing it? When ideas & ways of thinking are holding us back rather than forward to sustain us, why hold on to it? When ideas divide us on artifically created lines that rather than hold us together keeps us apart why do you still hold on to it? Why not change for the difficult better?
Truthfully, change IS hard for people. Especially when leaping into the unknown. That's how we move forward. Oh well, to ask people to pause & reflect about everything in their lives is hard enough, how much more a systematic change of society & the world? It's hard to ask, but if humanity wants to survive it's gonna have to. If we keep dividing each other, only the time table of our ultimate destruction is to benefit.
