As a prospective Jewish convert whose been sitting in limbo for sometime due to location and saving to move into a city with an eruv, it’s been near impossible to practice Judaism. Of course, it’s also not appropriate for me to follow all mitzvot as most are solely the obligation of Jews and I am not yet a Jew. Much like how a conversion student should do at least one thing to ‘violate’ the laws of Shabbos during Shabbos whilst they are pre-mikveh.

For this reason, I’ve decided to continue studying Judaism and to get better at following the Noachide laws in the interim whilst in this limbo.

I’ve heard that this book is one of the best books on the Noachide laws and it was fairly cheap on Kindle.

I’ll do an update for anyone that is interested.

Jewish Spaces are Jewish Spaces

This should be self explanatory. Jewish spaces are Jewish spaces. If you are NOT Jewish (and yeah, I'm including you, Messianics), it is not your space. Gentiles, no matter how much you love our religion or culture or whatever, even if you've decided to live by the Noachide laws, this is NOT your space and you are not to enter it unless invited by Jews. Even then, recognize your position. You do not have the right to talk over us. You do not have the right to make halachic proclamations. You do not have the right to decide who we include in our spaces. And don't you dare try to lecture us on halachic law. Even within Orthodox Judaism alone you will find millions of different interpretations. Add to that regional minhag, regional differences, interpretations of observance, whether 'barrier mitzvot' are or are not full commandments, and there are a lot of right answers to a single question. And even among the most orthodox of orthodox, they will admit that they aren't sure and are just trying their best. So don't you Goyim, and I am talking extra loudly to the Messianics and Noachides in the crowd, DARE to try and police our Judaism and our Jewish spaces.

I recently found out that I'm descended from Ashkenazi Jew, although I was raised Christian (and am now Pagan) but I've always had a fondness and "home" feeling for Judaism. So to me, it makes sense. Although I'm curious to know if I'm still considered a Jew even if I'm not practicing Judaism? Is it hereditary? Thank you!

So, caveat: I’m not Jewish and a local Orthodox Rabbi would be able to give you better advice about your particular situation.

That said… Jewishness is matrilineally hereditary. If your ancestor was your maternal grandmother or her mother, congratulations! You’re Jewish! If you’re like me, and your Jewish heritage is paternal, then you’re not Jewish. That doesn’t mean we are disconnected from the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Far from it. The history of righteous and God-fearing non-Jews in Judaism is rich and ancient. For more on that, see my answer to another ask: What is a Noachide?

For more information on Judaism in general, you can start with Chabad.org. They’re a Hasidic Ashkenazi organization with a massive online library, and they run many outreach programs. But remember that online reading will never compare to actually engaging your local observant Jewish community, and an Orthodox Rabbi will do a much better job helping you decide what to do with your familial discovery than I can.
