2 runs down.. 82 to go until Marathon day. (Holy sh*tballs, that’s a lot of running)
My sister found out today that she didn’t get a ballot place, nor did my boyfriend, so I’m in this on my own... (I may be forgetting the thousands of other people who were lucky enough to get ballot places).
If anyone on here is a seasoned marathon runner or just a runner in general?! please feel free to share all or any of your wonderful training, refuelling, how to keep motivated advice. I honestly need all the help I can get!
I guess I’m training then?
A few years ago I decided that I wanted to run a 5K. I’ve never run a 5K. Hell, I don’t think I’d ever run an entire mile without stopping. I downloaded C25K, and tried to get started. I didn’t make exercise a priority, and I gave up around week 3 of the program... twice. In the mean time, I also got engaged. So I put the training on hold in favor of planning our wedding.
When I started exercising regularly again at the end of 2015, I started by just using the elliptical. I use the Netflix method of watching an action-packed drama which will keep me engaged for 45 minutes. I found that when I started, I needed the full 45 minutes to get close to 3.1 miles.
As I’ve continued to exercise regularly, my endurance and speed have definitely increased. Typically I get my cardio in through Zumba, but on my “extra” days at the gym, I’ll often opt for the elliptical or treadmill. I’ve noticed it takes me more like 36 minutes to go 3.1 miles. I know a 13 minute mile is really nothing to get excited about, but it’s still a huge improvement without explicitly trying.
My husband asked me at dinner the other night if I am thinking about trying again to run a 5K. I told him I’ve been considering it. I think that I might try Couch to 5K gain, but this time I would probably start somewhere in the middle, since I know I can go at least a mile and a half without slowing.
I also do not want to walk the whole thing. I’ve had well meaning people tell me I should just walk a 5K. Umm, I hear you, but that’s not the point of this (literal) exercise. I want to run a 5K, not walk one. I know I can walk one. I digress....
So I guess I’m training then? I suppose adding it into my current exercise schedule (Zumba on M/TH, weights on Wed) would be pretty easy. I have an opening on Tuesday night.
Here goes nothing....
Fitness Friday - Ready for that 10K
Fitness Friday – Ready for that 10K
I forgot to mention my next endeavor that occurs this Sunday. A 10K. I’ve never done one before. I’ve honestly never been someone who wanted to run long distances. A few miles here and there, consistently. Enough to provide some much-needed mental therapy. However, as the running bug embedded itself…I wanted more. The kids are no longer infants and toddlers anymore so it makes finding “me time” a…

Downloaded Zombies 5K cuz i have no business walking briskly during an app called Zombies Run! 3 and only running when an alert of zombies forces me to. XD
I should be running the whole time so this app which helps get you from "couch to 5k" should help me be able to really run when i do my missions.
The training program of Zombies 5k takes 8 weeks so i wont be back to Zombies run! for a while but hopefully i'll have gained some speed and hit some of my goals.....
speaking of which are:
1. Get outside and do at least 8 miles a week. I go out on a good week 3-4 times thats only 2 miles or so on average.
2. Be able to run a mile in 10 minutes. I can walk one in 15-20.
3. Use the zombies 5K training app to be able to run that 3.1 miles successfully by July. (then get back to zombies run 3, which im only on season 1 of)
4. Run a for real 5k in the fall.
5. I hate mornings but i really want to do a morning run in early summer where i watch the sun come up and all that good stuff.
also, do any of you guys play either of these apps or use runkeeper? I want to add friends on there.
How I Wound Up Training for The Broad Street Run
How I Wound Up Training for The Broad Street Run
I am not a runner. Not naturally, not even a little bit. I used to make myself run sometimes back in high school . . . I think I even ran a few miles once or twice. I hated it. Let’s just say I’ve always been one of those people that was never very likely to live long in the event of a Zombie apocalypse. I’ve also been militantly ANTI-signing-up-for-road-races . . . partially because EVERYBODY…

Holy COLD day to run, Batman
Week 4, Day 2 (February 16, 2013) | Countdown to race: 14 days
WOOOO today was brisk and absolutely beautiful outside, but a lovely 45 degrees during my run. Thankfully, despite how chilly the air was outside, day 2 went much better than day 1 did.
I took the liberty of screen capturing the temperature and of the lovely blue sky—we haven’t had much of that this year. I also, took a picture of my running accessory—a winter hat.
Now, I’m sure MANY people laughed at me because my SO certainly did when I walked out, but the cold wind on my ears creates a really intense pain at the base of my skull that I can hardly stand. Running is bad enough without my brain trying to vacate my head, so I’ll just risk being laughed at and wear a hat to cover my ears.
Two weeks, I repeat, two weeks until the big race day, which will simply be another Saturday run for me. My official completion of a 5k will likely have to wait another two weeks in my training. Alas, I’ll register for another upcoming charity 5k run so I can have a much bigger debut!
