Selfshiptober - Day 22 Possession, Julian Albert (Drabble below the cut)

Something was wrong.

Vivi had known that already. Julian had been gone for days now. He had gone over every possibility in his mind, every logical explanation, every mundane reason for the sudden absence but something in his chest wouldn't settle. Something was wrong. It hung in the air over him even as he tidied a few things in preparation for closing the library for the night. His hands clutched tight to the strap of his satchel, almost wanting to just sit here all night to wait for something. Some sign of him. Anything.

That was when it happened.

The soft ringing of the bell that had been recently put above the front door. A bit of a paranoid precaution on his part due to the increase of danger within the city lately. He froze, body tensing ever slightly. But when he turned...it was Julian.

"Julian?" He said his name almost hesitant, under his breath. He doesn't hesitate as much to walk forward, his arms lifting slightly as if he wanted to reach out for him, yet he didn't. Something wasn't right. The ache in his chest suggested this. The way Julian stood, too rigid, rain soaking his clothes as if he had for once forgotten an umbrella. The ever prepared Julian Albert forgetting such a thing was not usual. And his eyes...something about them was different. Drained, dark. "Is...Is something wrong?" Vivi finally spoke, having stopped a few paces from him, "What happened?" He added, a deep frown settling onto his face.

Julian's lips were drawn tightly, the rest of his face oddly lax. Like looking at someone who was relaxed on a bodily level but who was tense all the same. It was a bit disorienting, almost uneasy to see. His face relaxed as if he was asleep but his facial features tense and sharp more than Vivi had seen them be before. "Everything." Julian's voice was his same dry accented voice, yet somehow dull. "Everything is wrong, Vivi." He said, as if it were obvious and simple fact.

"Julian-" Vivi reached out a bit cautiously but Julian sidestepped it without so much as glancing towards him, "I should have never come to this ridiculous little place. I thought it could bring me solace but it did nothing but cause more problems." Julian said simply, dull eyes looking at the nearest selves, though his gaze seemed almost distant someone. Vivi's features tensed at that, his brows furrowing in confusion, "You...You didn't have to come here if it caused problems."

Julian seemed to pause, a hand reaching forward to run a finger over the spine of a book, though he looked disinterested, not truly focused on it. Or anything. "I came here because of you...though me continuing such is hardly good for either of us. I am far better on my own. I do not need someone weighing me down." It was spoken casually, matter of factly, without weight.

Vivi swallowed hard, his jaw clenching slightly. Something was wrong. This wasn't him. Though he didn't know what it was either. Could there possibly be a meta capable of shapeshifting? Like those horror films he saw once or twice on accident. Beings that take on the form and voice of loved ones to lure and hurt them. His hand reached behind the desk, slowly grabbing his cane. "I..." He paused, trying not to look too closely at the almost lifeless eyes he saw peering over at him, "I don't know who or what you are but you need to leave him alone." He tried to sound brave in some way, though his voice quivered. He wasn't brave, nor was he strong but he couldn't just let whatever person or creature do this. Not with Julian. Julian, of all people, he felt protective of even if he wasn't entirely sure why yet. "Stop doing this. I don't know why you are, but you can't."

Julian turned his head towards him, a small huff of a grim sort of laugh leaving his throat, as if amused by Vivi's words somehow. "You know nothing of what you are talking about. Nor who you are talking to." He said with an eerie sort of smoothness, "If you stick to close to me, you are almost guaranteed to die." Vivi's heart was hammering in his chest, the familiar bile of panic rising in his throat, a sting all too familiar by now. "I'm not going anywhere. I....I'll just have to die."
