I recently moved back to Saskatchewan after living in Toronto, ODSP is such a joke for giving people such a pittance despite the cost of living in Ontario. Hell if ODSP is enough to live off without Nintendo holding fines over you. I'm glad you have been doing well despite those circumstances, and that you are in recovery. Being disabled in the Toronto area feels like a unwinnable battle, even without the greater struggles you are facing. Wishing you strength optimism, and perseverance, and most importantly happiness.

Yes, living in ODSP is not easy with today's cost of living. and they only increase it by 3.8% per year and cover less than $600 per month for rent, you can't even rent a room for that in GTA anymore.

The only way I am surviving is the fact I am sharing this two bedroom condo with another person that is paying rent as well and also the fact the condo belongs to my ex, so I am able to pay less than market rent. If it was not for me, my ex would have sold off this place and I would most likely still be struggling on the streets like I first was a year ago, trying to find a suitable place to rent and share that with my ODSP which took over a year to get approved as well.

Took a while to also get approval from them to run my own business and earn some money, but there are limits on that as well, you can't earn more than $1,000 either. So it's not been easy.

I just have to take it a day at a time, stay positive, and focus on my overall health and well-being, and keep my mind active as I work on my Texas Instruments projects.

Here is a recent photo of me, from my 56th birthday party last month, in which you can see how bad my chronic lymphedema can get in my left leg after a nice day out and about.

My neurologist wanted to put me on a new medication. But it’s not covered by ODSP(Ontario disability)

So he helped me fill out the paperwork (cuz he’s awesome) & faxed it for me, to try and get it approved through the EAP. (Exceptional Access Program)

I received word that I’m approved!!! I’ll be getting my 1st dose delivered this week!

It’s an injectable med called Ajovi. I’m hoping this will help how bad my migraines get during the summer & reduce the severity of my cluster headaches🙏🏼💜

I want to talk about the statistical changes here over time, because people have been pointing out the subhumanizing and carceral nature of Ontario Works (welfare system) since it came into being under Mike Harris.

The LICO (Low-Income Cut Off) in 2025, for 1 person with no dependants in Thunder Bay is $26,290/year before tax (Source) The LICO in 2008, when this was published, was $19,094/year before tax. (Source)

The LICO is lower for rural communities, however, and the LICO in 1992 for someone in a rural area (not technically in a town, maybe a random farm off the highway) was $8,848 per year.

Ontario Works, in 2025, maxes out at $8,796/year.

This does not take into account inflation at all.

This is Why I Vote NDP. They actually care. It's that simple!

NDP's MP, Peter Julian, hammers the Liberal government about failure to support disabled Canadians in the pandemic. It took 7 months for the Liberal government to get a payment to disabled Canadians (which only 40% of disabled Canadians qualified for). They even prorogued (shut down) Parliament for a month while disabled Canadians languished. Yet, it took 4 days for the Liberal government to make available, $750 BILLION in liquidity supports for the banks.

Hi. My name is Sam, I’m a 23 year old disabled person, mentally and physically. I have PTSD, MDD, GAD, BPD, and am in the process of getting an Autism diagnosis. I’m a part time wheelchair user, and I can’t walk very well either way, so I can’t really hold a job. There’s no freelance work for me right now.

My partner (22M) and I really need help getting groceries.

The car broke down on Friday with the engine misfiring, which has locked up my partners paycheck to take care of the car so he can get to work. ODSP comes out on Wednesday but it’s already more than spoken for between bills and rent.

I’m looking for $300CAD so we can get groceries that’ll last us two weeks until my partner gets paid again. I know it’s expensive and that seems like a lot.

The food banks are empty.

If anyone can help at all I would be endlessly grateful, I can do art, graphic design, knitting, crochet, or punch needle embroidery in return.

I just wanted to bring more attention to this issue because I don't think enough people know about it.

Slide 3: "This income was previously exempt but ODSP is now deducting it dollar for dollar out of PWD’s check like it’s income."

Slide 4: "People on ODSP don’t have enough to live as it is. Even without taking away half their check just for being in school. This is devastating, not only to myself but to many other ODSP recipients who are in the same boat."

Slide 5: "It seems to vary city to city, but in Ottawa across the board peoples grants are being deducted like its income. Saying the protocol became more clear and now all non-educational funding will be deducted."

Slide 6: "It’s hard enough to go to school as a disabled person without this too. How are we supposed to focus on school when you don’t have enough money to meet your basic needs."

Slide 7: "For reference, my income will be reduced from $1169 to $600 as soon as I start school again. This is gonna have devastating affects for the sustainability of PWD getting a higher education."

Slide 8: "People care about this issue though. People are already building cases with their local MPP’s and looking to take this issue to parliament and rectify this injustice. This matters allot to people and change is possible."
